You can see in the top pic, the "union" button is selected (therefore, a union path) and then once the "exclude" button is pressed with the inside path selected, you see the path become the way you want (see inside both red circles). I usually keep the exclude path option on all the time.

It has been years since I've had to use Quark but an EPS is an EPS no matter how poorly Quark makes them or how bad the format is. you should be able to open it with Photoshop.

Greetings all,
I have an interesting problem in that the actual brush strokes for just about any tool don't match the cursor size shown on screen.
For example; if I set my copyright brush to 250 pixels, the cursor for the brush appears to be about 450-500 pixels wide. This makes one click placement of these type things pretty frustrating.
The same thing happens with the standard brush, clone, and just about any other painting tool. I've checked and changes all the options under preferences relating both cursors and points / pixels to no avail.
Here is a link to a screen capture of one example:

Any ideas?

Even if you select "Normal Brush Tip" instead of "Fullsize Brush Tip" in Preferences>Cursors?
For precise placement, check "Show Crosshair in Brush Tip"

Hi,
Yes, even if I select Normal Brush Tip.
The show cross-hair option is good for finding the center of a brush, but without an accurate representation of the actual brush stroke, precise placement of things like digital signatures and watermarks is difficult.
Thanks
Jim

You can get the results that you are describing if you are using a Soft brush with "Full-size Brush Tip" and with "Airbrush" selected in the Options Bar.

Well, they (and anyone else) are welcome to this one.

For now I'm pretty much set. I tried last night with the GIMP and this morning I had my image. It took somewhere between two and seven hours to render (can't tell exactly, since I was asleep.) I can't say that I care for the GIMP that much, but with Ghostscript built in, it was an easy alternative.
....and I never saw GIMP use more than one processor either ;)

Try using Bridge's "Get Photos …".
I actually now prefer it to the Nikon and Canon download utilities.

Try removing and then re-installing any CR plug-ins that you may have and then re-installing only the latest one in:
Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS4/File Formats/Camera Raw.plugin
I am wondering if drag-copying directly from your card is causing some sort of corruption?
Do try the Bridge/Get Photos because you can use it to preview, select and download your images to any folder that you choose. I have had no problems with images copied to my HDs in that way.
The only times that I have run into a problem with thumbnails with generic icons has been with single (non-batched) scans to Tiffs using NikonScan.
The cure in that case is to simply Duplicate all of the generics in Bridge; and trash the originals. The Duplicates all show the correct thumbnails.

Try copy/pasting the block of text into TextEdit.
Make the TextEdit document "Plain Text" to strip-out any formatting.
Then re-copy the text and paste into Photoshop.

hello
i've been having this problem where my cursor doesn't match the position of my tool on the canvas. for example if making a selection marquee, the selection will be made about 20 pixels to the right and bottom from my cursor. the shifted amount varies from session to session and goes away by selecting a different workspace, but it soon comes back again.
anyone having this issue?

fernando,
An idea of your hardware and software installation would be helpful in any post like this. Also knowing if you are using precise cursors or...?
Without knowing more than we do, all I can suggest is resetting your tool or application preferences.

i'm on a G5 dual processor with latest leopard update
i'm using full size cursors but have tried standard and precise and this happens in both settings.
the issue also sometimes happens on a per window basis when i have more than one document opened. on one document the cursor will behave fine and when i switch to the other document it won't.

So you're saying you can't drag an open image to the new monitor, or any palettes? Just the tool bar? That is weird - wonder if it's a CS(1) issue? Assuming PS 8 = CS1, which it should be given that CS3 is PS 10...
You might try making your NEC the primary monitor. In System Preferences->Displays->Arrangement, drag the menu bar to the big monitor. At that point PS should now live on the big monitor, and you can drag the toolbar (and hopefully palettes) to the MBP screen.
That's what I ended up doing as a result of this thread. Though I don't seem to have any problems dragging things either way.
