The tried and true weak link maxim. The emphasis on sensor resolution was
once important, but is now mostly a tiresome marketing ploy.

Wow, how true this is with beginners who see sharpness above all factors but
seem to miss (ignore?) the ugly artifacts.

Noise really shows up with the crammed sensors. The fixes fuzz the picture
and the EFFECTIVE resolution is less than what can be achieved with a
reasonable design.

Alas, the horsepower race and the watts per channel race and the digital
cameral MP race will never completely die because consumers are too often
keyed in one or two issues.

Can't afford it.

We just back up stuff onto the space on the server reserved for each
machine.

Linux doesn't have a large market share in embedded. It's mainly VxWorks
and Windows CE for embedded devices that have an OS at all.

It's also important to distinguish between a commercial version of Linux
and open source Linux. There are several commercial distributions of
Linux that have a small market share in embedded, but they're not free.
Embedded is one area where "Linux is free if time has no value" is
especially true.

I was rooting for BeOS. At least I got a tee-shirt from them.

Well, except for Symbian...

Which has the bulk of the 3G phone market...

You only crop if you need to for whatever end use is needed. So the
counter argument goes that when you need a larger aspect ratio photo,
4/3 wastes more pixels while getting less resolution for the image.

This has been done before.
As was suggested, I think there's a real possibility that Adobe are
fully aware of all the hacked and cracked versions around and that those
same versions are in use by people who wouldn't have ever been legit
customers anyway, not at that price. The huge advantage for Adobe is
that it creates a user base of Adobe-familiar freeloaders, some of whom
will move into areas where Adobe will need to be paid for. Business
software auditing is having a real effect these days and while there are
some small companies running illegal software still, the vast majority
of them actually pay for it, so Adobe will benefit in the medium to
longer term.
In a way, it's a giant viral marketing scheme - the loss to Adobe is
minimal, but the goodwill and future sales generated is substantial, and
that's something you can't buy.

Perhaps the safest way is to use the rectangular marquee tool, with it's style
set to "fixed ratio" and the desired numbers filled in. Once you have the crop
you want, use Image > Crop to do the actual cropping.

Not quite as user friendly as the crop tool, but it will do exactly what you
want with no resampling.

RE: [Photoshop-Haven] Re: crop tool - aspect ratio

I first check the resolution on my original image by using ALT-I-I (that's
the letter "i").Just eyeball what the resolution is, then close that box and
set your crop resolution to match.

Now I should also say that this whole issue still confuses me. When I crop
photos for printing, I do a 300 ppi. But boy, does that ruin the image for
onscreen viewing. Not sure I understand that, but my little solution above
seems to work for what I want.

Using the crop tool, if you enter a width of 10 and a height of 8 it will

Re: [Photoshop-Haven] Wacom tablets at about.com

Hello all-

OK.. not saying that I have tons of money... ok.. I have a credit card. LOL

But what about those tablets that have the monitor right there on the tablet.

Are they just as good as that 6x8 that someone said that they got?

www.wacom.com and then goto the Cintiq's.

The video they show seems bad-a$$; you can see how they draw right there on the screen and it looks just like pencil; would those other cheaper ones do the same thing on the desktop/laptop monitors?

Anyone got pictures of their tablet work?

Cheers

Re: [ellenspsp_sharing] Is it just me?

i don't receive any blank emails. sometimes when i first open an email it appears to be blank, but if i give it a sec or two it loads or i can go to the next email and come back and it will show. i have a feeling that has to do with the isp.
if i answer a question i usually just reply to the person asking the question not the group as a whole. hope this helps.

Is it just me? I see people ask the same questions I have, and no one answers. I get about 10 emails a day from this group, with a ton of blank postings from members in here. There is no content, sometimes a link or two. What is the big secret to this group?

[Photoshop-Haven] Re: crop tool - aspect ratio

Let me see if I have this straight.

Using the crop tool, if you enter a width of 10 and a height of 8 it will resample the photo (which is not what we want). If you set the width to "10 in" and the height to "8 in" then it doesn't resample the photo but it will reset the resolution (which is not what we want either). [In both cases I left the "resolution" blank.]

So, how do you crop to a ratio without causing a resample or resetting the resolution?

No, Microsoft has nothing to do with it. Developers write for the systems
that people use, if they want to make money selling their software.

Yea, I suppose that makes about as much sense as saying "I used win95

So boring, and so polarised. I like and use Windows, Linux, freeBSD.

The differences are educational, and you can use ideas from each to enhance

You've got to find the computer, switch it on, do the job and go on to the
next one.

Where does your wife keep her eeepc?

Which is why it's called NT 3, or NT 3.1 after they got it working
properly...

Interestingly, it came after LAN Manager 2...

Neither Sir, I caught a rather nasty disease from a louse.

Compare very wide-angle zoom lenses. Olympus is far more expensive, at
least 2x.

I'm currently running an 1800 and have had almost no problems with
clogging. The only exception turned out to be caused by wandering
cat-fur.

The R1800 doesn't use K3 inks and my original question was prompted by
the concern that possibly these might be more temperamental (the cat
has died of old age at 21).

A truly good selection of aircraft cable (and pretty much anything
else that's hardware) is at McMaster.

<http://www.mcmaster.com/#aircraft-cable/=169qr9>

Fittings, etc., also, for those cables.

(Play with the site, it's terrific. Just type "screws" into the
search, it's amazing. And their service is also terrific.)

The tried and true weak link maxim. The emphasis on sensor resolution was
once important, but is now mostly a tiresome marketing ploy.

Wow, how true this is with beginners who see sharpness above all factors but
seem to miss (ignore?) the ugly artifacts.

> The search of ever larger numbers of pixels is running out of steam. If
