You've got untagged RGB images being displayed in both color managed and non color managed applications.

Photoshop will assume that your untagged RGB image is in whatever the current RGB workspace is. If your images are in fact in the same color space as your working space even though they're untagged, they will look fine.

When you view thos same images in your non color managed applications, htey will either be assumed to be sRGB or "Monitor RGB" depending on the app.

Can you post a screen shot of your current color settings, including color management and profile policies, as well as your make a model of monitor, as well as what your calibration settings are.

No, applications that don't use the display profile (that's most of them) won't be affected by a bad display profile. Only applications actively using the display profile will be affected (like Photoshop).

What you're showing is a classic example of a bad display profile, or a bad choice of working space in Photoshop.

Check for updates to the Huey software.
Then check your color settings in Photoshop.
If neither of those fixes it, set your display profile back to the factory default and see about replacing the Huey.

Factory default being no profile at all. Using the color profiles that come with your monitor is always a bad idea as they're never accurate.

Presuming you have Huey drivers installed and have calibrated the monitor
you cannot assume that the correct profile is loaded in the OS with Vista
unless you start Photoshop immediately after booting.
Unfortunately Vista can unload the monitor profile under a variety of common
circumstances, for example when the idiot user account warning comes up, and
does not reload the correct monitor profile.
You can manually check to make sure the correct profile is loaded by the OS
and switch to it.
This is a defect that Microsoft has not corrected and many Photoshop users
do not realize how often they may be working with the incorrect monitor
profile loaded. Because most users now use LCD panels which are calibrated
at their default settings, which do not drift much while the monitor is in
use, the problem is often not apparent.
You also need to see if the settings for the NVidia driver have not been
changed and are at their defaults as these will override whatever you
achieved with your Huey profile.
However I agree with most people above that you are likely mixing and
unmatching color spaces.

Sorry..not sure what you mean by untagged RGB images etc? To make sure the problem wasn't something to do with my digi camera I also captured 2 images as screenshots from Flickr. It's the same problem with everything bought in to photoshop...screenshots, images from another camera, from the web, and my camera...everything in PS looks baaad (except when I change the setting to Cintiq display).

I used to cut and paste images from the internet or other applications without any problems for years in various versions of PS...so it's odd that the problem started a few weeks ago.

How do I find my calibration settings..I just let Huey do its thing.

My monitor is a Chimei TC0 03. Luckily my partner has a newer model Chimei that we can test. If PS looks ok on his monitor hooked up to my pc then it's probably my monitor that's the problem. Is it possible that a monitor's colors can degrade over time..and is not fixable by calibration?

12 Gig memory and ATI 1 gig card and (3) 1 terabyte drives installed internally.

yes, you'd also need black somewhere or it will look washed up. How about this:
With the image in CMYK go to the Channels Panel, click on the Black channel and shift+click on the Yellow channel, Ctrl+A to select all and Ctrl+C to copy, then click on CMYK to show all the channels and press Ctrl+V to paste. Go to the Layers Panel and disable the layer you just created and then go back to the Channels Panel and do the same thing again but this time click on the Black channel and Shift+click on the Magenta channel, and then the same with the Cyan channel. Remember that you have to have the background layer selected when copying otherwise you'll get grayscale layers and when pasting all the channels should be visible or you won't make anything.

Is this the effect that you wanted to achieve?

printer on transparencies:

The page size is A3 = 420x297 mm. It would be helpful
to make two copies by InDesign with two discs each
(CD size) on a smaller format like A4 = 210 x 297 mm.
The colors are defined by CMYK.

I've actually tested the result: the effect is pleasing.

After making several adjustment layers, the layer merge is performed. However, it is observed that the colour changed after layer merging. It is confirmed with the histogram. This phenomenon also happens in layer flatten. Any solution?

OK, my copy of CS4 did come from eBay, but it seems to be legit. I am running Vista Home Premium with plenty of RAM and HD space.

When I install Photoshop, either from the DVD or download, and enter my serial # it gives me the green check mark and brings me to the registration screen. I fill it out, and it then brings me into PS.

Now, when I close PS and restart, it again asks for a serial #. I enter the same number again and I get a red "X" and have to use a 30 day trial option.

What is going on? Anyone ever have this problem?

If you got a legit copy of software on eBay you'll be in a very small
minority. Some of the pirated stuff there is so "good" even the sellers
don't know it's fake.

Call Adobe and see what they have to say.

I assume the process you are describing is "Activation" not just entering the serial# during the install.

If I remember, the initial acceptance of your serial# during the install would be just a local check to see if the serial# is consistent with how serial numbers for CS4 are supposed to be formed.

Once activated, at some point Photoshop will connect with Adobe's servers to check whether or not it is a legit one as far as what products serial#s have been sold and what serial#s seem to be in mass-use due to piracy, and presumably this is where the red X comes from...either that the serial# you are using has been used multiple times, already, or the serial# you have used has not been printed onto the inside packaging of a shrink-wrapped retail Photoshop.

It used to be that PS would only check the serial# at the time of activation and you could run a pirated version as long as you didn't connect to the internet as you were installing, but this was too easy to defeat with a keygen so Adobe got smart and doesn't tell you when they check and you can't stay disconnected from the internet forever.

If you didn't pay full price for your eBay copy and it didn't come shrink-wrapped with a serial# inside, then it is doubtful it is legit.

that's no longer a guarantee. lots of reports of fully legit looking cs3 copies with shrink wrap and color manuals. the technology is out there. i guess a pirate may think you'll pay 500 bux for a 600 dollar program if you're trying to stay legit, where you might question 100 bux for that $600 program.

Sorry to ask something that I should know.

I have 2 the CS3 tools, photoshop & AI and the full production studio of CS2. I haven't used these tools for mnths (nearing a yr) and didn't have a whole lot of experience even when I used them daily.

Cutting to the chase... I want to create a short video and an interactive photo album to go on a settop playable CD-rom.

I don't need help with the video part. But am at something of a loss about the interactive photo album. I've done quite a few animated photo-albums but the only interactive part was with DVD menus.

I'm not really talking about a lot of interactivity. I plan to put the pictures in pages and would like the user to be able to turn the pages.

That is, I'd like the pages static but turnable by user/viewer.

Maybe menus would be one way to do it, but wondering if there is some way to make it a little less clunky. Ahh .. maybe all I'm describing is chapters.. but even then I'm not sure how to do that on a CD-rom as opposed to a dvd...... still any input would be welcome.

I hate to tell you how many times I have come close to trashing my box and sending it to the bottom of the canal out back . . . Keep the pen away from the tablet and any other magnet from the the tablet.
Experiment: just put the pen (while in the holder) on the tablet and when not in PS just you try and use the mouse ..... HA! Neat joke to pull an enemy, surely not your friend.

Subject: [Photoshop-Haven] Merging pictures together?

Hello. I received a call today from my father who asked if I could do something for him...He is a semi-driver who may be retiring soon and would like to have a picture of his truck and him in five different locations. He explained it as taking a picture of him standing in front of the truck. Take another picture of him standing by the door. Take another picture of him standing by his back rear wheel and then one of him behind his truck. He then wondered if we could somehow merge him from the other photos into one so that the result would appear to be of his truck with him standing in like five different locations. Obviously each picture we take would include the truck and he only wants one photo with one picture of his truck with five pictures of him in different locations. Is this something that Photoshop CS3 could do and if so what would it be called? I am happy to look for tutorials but I need to know what to look for. Or is this something
you do on your camera? I have heard of bracketing but not certain what that even is. Could someone please help me out and let me know what I would need to do or this would even be possible? It would mean a lot to me if I were able to fulfill his wish.
