Photoshop How To Use: Mar 30, 2009

Thanks everyone who helped me with the glitch.
The only thing that worked for me was the deselect option.
Control D nothing happens and control H cuts/deletes the selection..

To make the bounding box invisible, uncheck ShowBoundingBox on the toolbar
To remove the selection and the bounding box, CTRL D
To hide the marching ants of the selection, CTRL H

Hopefully one of these will do what you wanted.

OK! Relax.
First does your Mac recognize your printer?
If yes, in CS4 go to File/Page Setup to get the Page Setup window.
Here you should see the usual Settings: Format for: Paper Size:
Orientation: & Scale: selections.
In the Format for window find your printer and click on OK.

If you do not find your printer and have the latest drivers installed,
go tho your Mac System preferences and select Print & Fax. Make sure
your printer is in the list of printers in the window on the left. If
not use the + at the bottom of that window to add your printer.
Clicking on that + will start a search for printers and associated
drivers.
Once that is done, close System Preferences.

Repeat the Page Setup procedure. and print a test in CS4 the full print
dialog should open. Again click on the print button or enter. The Mac
print dialog will open. If it is in the short format you will see 2
selection pull down windows Printer: (Your printer should be IDed here)
& Presets: (normally set to Standard).
On the right next to the Printer: pull down window there will be an
Aqua selection button, click on this. The Print dialog will expand to
add Copies: Pages: & a selection Button allowing you to choose Layout:
Color Matching: Paper Handling: Cover Page: Scheduler: Quality & Media
(here is where you select your Media Type/paper & Print Mode,
top-quality photo for example)
The others will be Color Options: Special Effects: Borderless Printing
& Summary

If you do not find your printer listed, either install from your
supplied printer SW support CD/DVD or go to your printer manufacturer's
web site and download and install the latest drivers and repeat the
above.

Paper choices would be via your printer's interface, plus any specific profiles you may have added. They should be visible in the "Print..." menu. Also, make sure you have the latest driver for your printer installed.

Sorry. That version is the shipping version. I'm not sure why you are getting the error.

Have you tried resetting your prefs. on launch? (Option double click the app)

Funny thing is the icon for the Bridge is "broken" too. It has a line thought it and is kind of grayed out. I tried running the installer again "re-install" but the results are the same. Do I have to delete Bridge CS3? or should they be OK together?

I am working on a client project. My client had another vendor produce photoshop files, each containing lots of layers and a fair amount of layer effects...things like drop shadow, glow, bevel, etc.

I am not having luck flattening these images (which I need to do) without losing the look of the original.

For example, the shadows might be there, but they aren't as dark, or the glows might not be as bright.

I am using CS4 for Mac OS X, and this vendor used a Windows version of photoshop, but I don't know which version.

The layered image and the flattened version are the same - there's no way to avoid that.

What can happen is that you see a noisy image at less than 100% zoom, and the preview and final can differ a bit (because the preview is downsampled). Or in 16 bit/channel you may get a slightly coarser preview at less than 100% zoom.

after I did my flattening, the change was very apparent right before my eyes, especially on elements in the image which were meant to look like glowing glass...it was not a slight difference.

with some effects, you get a warning when you try to layer them that "not all effects layer properly."

could the same thing be at work during the flattening process? perhaps, "Not all effects translate properly when file is flattened?"

Yes, the "create layers" option doesn't preserve appearance exactly -- because not all the layer effects are that simple.

But what you see before flattening, *is* the flattened image -- it goes through exactly the same logic.

In CS4, they seem to have changed how the keyboard zoom works, and this SUCKS!! I am so frustrated because the way it worked before had become a part of my workflow. Is there any way to change this anywhere, or if Adobe reps are on this forum can this become a requested feature?

The way I've worked for years is having the preference to resize windows when using keyboard zoom turned on.

This would resize windows when I hit Command + or -. The cool thing was, I could also hit Command-Option-0, to set my document to its actual size without resizing the window. I can't explain why, but this has always worked really well for me.

Now, when I hit Command Option 0, it sets my document to its actual size, but if it's a large document, it also resizes the window to fill my screen, which creates a big pain in the butt when I have other documents open that I also want to be visible.

So I basically have to keep manually resizing my windows after hitting Command Option 0, which is driving me batty.

Am I the only nut that is derailed by this change of functionality!!?? Is there any option to fix this? I know I can disable zoom resizing windows in the prefs, but that also throws off my workflow.

Installing a new hard drive shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to fix. The only caveat is to double-check if you need a jumper connected and between which two posts if you do.

Piece of cake. Just take the old wires, attach it to the new wires using THHN wiring and pull. Make sure the gauge is the right size for the breaker.

HSF+. OK...two caveats!

Thanks for the tips Neil. I want to copy the OS and Apps to this new drive from the other new one that is going bad. What's nice is that the bad drive keeps coming back from time to time. I'm actually working from it today. So if I don't wait too long I might be able to clone the whole thing and erase this drive before sending it in for repair. I might start the process when I quit working tonight.

Another bummer though. Remember the RAID drive I bought about six months ago? It is going bad too. It will try to start up but then fizzle out. One time it will work; the next time it won't. Fortunately I have those files backed up to the other drive I bought at the same time.

Not having the best of luck with these newer hard drives I'm sorry to say.

Lets hope they are not. Actually, where would they be anchored? If it is at either end you just disconnect it. I have never seen it anchored other than that.

I currently have CS2 (do not have the disks for it though) and am thinking of upgrading to CS4. Will all of my actions and scripts be usable in CS4? If I dislike CS4, can I "downgrade" back to CS2 without having the disks?

Right click inside your selection, then click Deselect on the context
menu. Or press Ctrl-D.
