Dear Jeff,
No.. unfortunately it is not.. I reorganized all my fonts, I did separate them into folders and I tried to load only the TTFs and I got the same error.

I only get this error with FXplorer :(
Many thanks for any help!!

Adriana

I tried to get an error from all of my font folders using Font Xplorer, Works just fine. The errors may be from fonts that are not True Type Fonts. Just an educated guess.

It has been a while since I have used it. I thought there was a max number per folder that didn't get the error. I will try it again later and see if I can get the error again.

Thank you dear Jeff!!!
I used to use this one and I do like it very much, the problem is I allways get an error when I try to load too many fonts. I have more then 50.000 and I really need one that is able to load all of them in subfolders.
How do you do to avoid the error???
Many thanks once again!!!

I forget...does PS 5.x have an "Auto" setting for the Leading value? If so...that's what you want to use for a standard value.

"Auto" will set the leading as 120% of whichever point size you set for the type size.

Example:
12 pt. type × 120% = 14.4 pt. for leading. In other words, multiply the type point size by 1.2

If you want to adjust manually, a higher number for leading that what "Auto" calculates will move lines of type farther apart; a lower number moves them closer together.

There is no reason to save an image in NEF format. I do not see it listed in
my "save as" choices in CS4 and I do not recall seeing it as choice in CS3
but it might be there, although I cannot imagine why. There is a choice for
Photoshop raw but that is not the same as NEF.
Once you open an image in Photoshop, particularly if you plan to rework it,
you should save it in the Adobe PSD format which will preserve all your
layers. You can use tiff or jpeg for particular purposes but those formats
are best used for single layer finished images that will be used for
specific purposes.
The nef image is the original data from the camera. When you make
adjustments to the nef image in the Adobe raw converter the image data is
not altered. The processing you performed is recorded as a set of
instructions and applied to the image when you reopen it in the converter
but the raw image data is not altered. If you click anything other than
cancel in the ACR your processing steps are recorded with the file.
Processing you apply to an NEF file in the ACR will not be recognized when
you open that NEF in another raw converter, like Nikon NX and vice versa
because each converter saves the instructions you gave it about processing
the image in a proprietary format. The underlying image data is not altered,
nor would you want it to be. If you process an NEF image in NX the program
will convert that image to a TIFF prior to handing off that image to
Photoshop.
If you have not tried NX download it from the Nikon website as the trial is
functional for 60 days. That might work better for you than Photoshop if you
want to save a highly processed NEF file. Again, that processed image will
only be readable in NX if you want to reopen it with all the adjustments you
made to it.

Yeah, just dragging horizontally at three points really is simple. Thank you for the feedback---something which a lot of OPs don't bother with.

Gernot,

Your work is fantastic, as usual. Thanks. I had the same question as Paulo. You have already created many mathematical treatises pertinent to digital imaging which, collectively, would constitute an exquisite, unique, authoritative reference book that some scientific publisher somewhere should drool over and provide assembly and editorial services, freeing you to stay creative.

Sure I will check-but can you explain to me what you mean exactly by being mapped? I'm not sure what you mean...

I've tried it with several different settings(and brushes), size/scatter/color jitter(if that's what you're talking about). For all of them I use the extreme values- 0%min diameter and 200% tilt scale(changing those numbers doesn't help anyway).

Hi
I am trying to install photoshop CS4 upgrade on Windows XP service pack 3.
I am installing onto a machine with photoshop CS previously installed.

the lable on the box says that it is PHSP.CS4.WIN.UPG.IE.001.DV However, since it has not installed I have no idea what exact version of Photoshop is on the dvd.

The DVD auto runs and give the initial dialog box.
Select the install button
The Adobe Photoshop CS4 Installer dialog box is displayed.
It state that it is initialising and a progress bar appears.
The box state that it is 'checking system profile'
the progress bar gets to about 90% and then just sticks there.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Regards
Graeme

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you all; I simply had to finish the job--ca. 400 frames--and get on with life. FYI, I shot everything in RAW/ Fine; for arc hiving, I convert everything to Tifs, and I keep them at 300dpi at rough 8 x 10 or vv, so in case client wants a print, it can be done. I use a D-90 in case I didn't mention it before.

Anyway, I phoned Lacie tech support, got a very nice knowledgeable person, and we recalibrated my monitor, establishing that there is NO color cast there.

I then downloaded Nikon's equivalent to Camera RAW in Bridge and re-imported the files from the camera with the SAME result.

I'm now resultantly inclined to think that the reddish cast has to do with an overabundance of light--this was in FL in the early aft, and everything seems to be fine when I was shooting in relative shade.

For better or worse, I then decided in the interests of time to edit out the red from my images in PS, which I did simply by upping the saturation # by a few digits (no more than 10). BTW, I left some alone, and I am really very happy with the result, but but now we'll see what my client makes of it.

To answer your Qs, re calibrators, I have no great regard for them because every monitor is different and I'm painfully aware that even those of the same make and model are to give different results. The English poet Keats had a phrase he used re such situations:negative capability (or the ability to live with uncertainties), and that's where I'm at re calibration. Bear in mind that through the years I've had a number of one-person shows as a photographer--though I don't consider my photography a strong suit--and now I have 3 websites with many digital images if my creation in PS, which have elicited all kinds of positive responses from folks who should supposedly know.

Re sharpening, I prefer to use USM--out of habit, I guess--because it allows for more control than smart sharpen.

Karla

Well, that's precisely why we calibrate. It's to make them not different.

BTW,

I phoned Lacie tech support (...) and we recalibrated my monitor

...how would you do that by phone?

You have to start with a properly calibrated monitor. Without that, you have no idea where you are.

Doing well in one person shows is not a recommendation for good color control. Off color images may in fact do better than standard correction.

If you are shooting RAW, with the D90 (I have one) then you need to either set a working WB and leave it there or plan on considerable time in correcting.

In any case, the eye dropper for color balance is there for your calibration needs FOR THE IMAGE not the monitor.

Start by purchasing a good monitor calibrator. $170 will get you a Macbeth lite, $250 the complete version. Cal your monitor. Open a file that has a known white or neutral gray, select the color balance dropper and click on it. You should see a great, balanced representation.

If not, get back here and we can take it from there.

FYI, my default color balance in my D90 is 4800K for daylight. Don't ask me why, but in doing what I suggest, I have found that value to be a good jumping off spot.
