This is the Photoshop forum.
What you want is the Elements forum.
Very few if any here know about Elements

You might be better asking in the SDK forum or Elements forum.
But if it was me I would use JavaScript where all you have listed is possible.

Ok, I guess I'm missing something. If I turn my Brightness to zero (to achieve 100-120 cd/m2), then I can barely see the image on the screen (it looks like mud). The image is not in a develop-able condition (it would be impossible to manipulate color, hue, saturation, sharpening etc. [you can't see it!]). Perhaps I should ask a technical question about how the calibration device works: Does the calibration device adjust the monitor so that it is visible and comfortable to work with AND at 100-120 cd/m2?

That brightness 100-120cd/m2 should be quite bright. My crt is running about 90 to 95. What I don't know if the units are the same in both.

I don't understand Russell. If the monitor looks sharper, why would you
increase the amount of sharpening?
I think Russell meant to sharpen for output. When the monitor is already natively sharp, he needs to oversharp the document a bit on that monitor to get it right for print.
I do this all the time. An image is good on screen, yet it's going to an Epson 7800 using Fuji Satin paper, I need to counter-act the ink bleed and oversharpen. It looks overly sharp on a CRT and more so on an LCD, but that's what Russell meant IMO.

If you have 2 RAM chips, try alternating them. One might be bad. Or just replace them. Sometimes just reseating them can fix some problems.

Photoshop is crashing. Most of the time this is due to corrupt drivers, or corrupt files (fonts, profiles, etc.) on your system. Sometimes it may happen due to corrupt preferences. Rarely it happens because the rest of your system is just broken..... but only rarely.

Quick question about slices. Is there a way to slice PSD slices that appear on top of eachother in a PSD? What I mean is, can I assign a slice for each layer - since in the PSD the layers all appear at the same x,y coordinates...

No. Slices are parts of an image on the x-y spectrum, not z.
You can use your slices to save to web with different layers on top, and perhaps accomplish what you want.

I understand that there are compatability problems with CS2 and lower vesions of the creative suite in relation to Leoapard OSX. Are there any compatability problems with CS2 for Windows if I install it on the Windows (using XP) partition of an iMac that uses the Leopard OSX?
Please advise. Thanks.

If its not running in Leopard you should be fine.
don't confuse running PowerPC software in Rosetta (PPC emulation) with running CS2 in XP which is native. It like apples and oranges. there is nothing in common.

will happen using parallel or vmware.

There is no book that I know of that trains specifically to the ACE. CIAB might be the closest, but it was designed to teach the program, not the certification. I would go to the certification pages and download the course objectives to the certification exam, and study to that.

I'm also preparing for the ACE exam and i found the online documentation to be quite useful as it covers all the program features including stuff that gets left out of most training titles like Data Sets.

The original has writing in both ink and pencil. So if I scan for one the other is either too dark or too light. If I convert the bitmap to RGB, will I be able to successfully use adjustment layers or is multiple scans the only way to work around this problem?

[I originally posted this last night, but it never made it...]
I would agree that this is a quicker way to extract a single layer (my original goal) but the result seems to think it is an "Alpha Channel" and refuses to be saved as a TIF. [I'm sure I ought to know what to do with an "Alpha Channel", but my education hasn't got that far yet].

Click desired channel in the channels panel, select all, copy, paste into new doc.

The reason why you can't save it as a TIF is because the image created using the Duplicate Channel command is in Multichannel mode. You have to convert it to Grayscale by going to Image->Mode->Grayscale and then you can save it as a TIF

I had the same problem. I realized that even though I had purchased a Radeon 3870 video card, it was manufactured by Diamond Multimedia. When I went to the Diamond Multimedia website and downloaded the driver for that card from their website, it recognized the card and installed. Perhaps your card was manufactured by a company other than ATI. It is easy to overlook. I wanted the driver update to take advantage of the Open GL performance boost by using the video card's memory. After the driver update, it worked great. Hope this helps.

Either you get blocky images at non-integer zoom factors without GL, or you get slightly blurry but smooth images (which everyone asked for) using GL.
You can't have perfectly sharp images at all zoom levels.

Silk has it exactly backwards: Bridge and the older File Browser came about because Microsoft couldn't make their APIs stable enough to use. The OS doesn't work, so something else had to be written to provide the functionality. Now Bridge does more than the OS in some areas (and less in others). And only recently has Microsoft claimed to fix the broken APIs (but we still can't find that documented).
