I have several adobe IDs too. Plus a macromedia one (which I noticed yesterday when I ventured into the Dreamweaver forum which I've not visited since 2006... (because it doesn't have any subsciption options for email what I can find)) and that one still automatically logged me in... I got a new Adobe ID again very recently because of the preparations for the new forums. Adobe systems never seem to remember ones already existing Adobe IDs. I have the same problem when trying to actually buy something via adobe.com.

The Questions will no doubt be posted … but I just wonder how many people who know the ANSWERS to those questions will bother to contribute any longer?

The Adobe Forum Development Team have succeeded only in wrecking the Forums both for Adobe Systems Inc. as well as for their Customers.

Workspaces contain more than just the menus to display. If you just want to control just the menu items, go to Window> Workspace> Keyboard Shortcuts and Menus... Here you can choose 'Photoshop Defaults' from the Set: pull down on the Menus tab.

'Essentials' is used Suite wide and may make more sense in some of the other products. Unfortunately, Ps was burdened with 'Essentials' and 'Basic' (effectively antonyms) in the process.

Essentials - as a term - doesn't make any more sense in the other products than it does here. And I said as much at the time in other contexts but was rather alone with that opinion.

HI I m Harshana, emrhpeiris@gmail.com

Actual Photoshop CS4 in side can't make a contact sheet.bu that facility now in inside Bridge

To create more effective contact sheets, use the Adobe Output Module in Adobe Bridge. For more information, see Create a PDF contact sheet with Adobe Output Module. If you prefer the older Contact Sheet plug-in described below, download it for Windows or Mac OS.
Contact sheets let you easily preview and catalog groups of images by displaying a series of thumbnails on a single page. You can automatically create and place thumbnails on a page using the Contact Sheet II command.

A contact sheet

1. Do one of the following:
 (Photoshop) Choose File > Automate > Contact Sheet II.
 (Bridge) Select a folder of images or specific image files. From the Bridge menu, choose Tools > Photoshop > Contact Sheet II. Unless you select specific images, the contact sheet will include all the images currently displayed in Adobe Bridge. You can select a different image folder or select other currently open images after the Contact Sheet II dialog box opens.
Note: Click to select an image in Bridge. Shift-click to select a series of images. Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Mac OS) to select noncontiguous images.
In the Contact Sheet II dialog box, specify the images to use by choosing one of the following from the Use menu in the Source Images area:
Current Open Documents
Uses any image that is currently open in Photoshop.
Folder
Lets you click Browse (Windows) or Choose (Mac OS) to specify the folder containing the images you want to use. Select Include All Subfolders to include images inside any subfolders.
Selected Images From Bridge
Uses images displayed in Bridge. All images in Bridge are used unless you select specific images before choosing the Contact Sheet II command. Images in subfolders are not included.
In the Document area, specify the dimensions, resolution, and color mode for the contact sheet. Select Flatten All Layers to create a contact sheet with all images and text on a single layer. Deselect Flatten All Layers to create a contact sheet in which each image is on a separate layer and each caption is on a separate text layer.
In the Thumbnails area, specify layout options for the thumbnail previews.
 For Place, choose whether to arrange thumbnails across first (from left to right, then top to bottom) or down first (from top to bottom, then left to right).
 Enter the number of columns and rows that you want per contact sheet. The maximum dimensions for each thumbnail are displayed to the right, along with a visual preview of the specified layout.
 Select Use Auto-Spacing to let Photoshop automatically space the thumbnails in the contact sheet. If you deselect Use Auto-Spacing, you can specify the vertical and horizontal space around the thumbnails. The contact sheet preview in the dialog box is automatically updated as you specify the spacing.
 Select Rotate For Best Fit to rotate the images, regardless of their orientation, so they fit efficiently on a contact sheet.

When Rotate For Best Fit is deselected, thumbnails appear in their correct orientation (left). When it is selected, the pictures are rotated to achieve the best fit (right).

Select Use Filename As Caption to label the thumbnails using their source image filenames. Use the menu to specify a caption font and font size.
Click OK.

Well, I just reinstalled Mac OS X to try and solve some issues I was having. It was less of a hassle than I thought it would be. Solved the problems I was having with Illustrator. Everything was running fantastic.

But, I was just working in Photoshop, opening about ~20-30 small PNG's (from 4kb to 50kb) at a time to resize, grayscale, etc. I opened up 63 PNGs at once to make things go quicker. They all opened up, with a bit of lag. Now, if I even try to open up 1-5 PNG's at a time, they open very slow. Saving, and editing the images are quick and responsive. It's just opening the files that gives me a slowdown.

Is there anyway to reset some memory settings? Or clear some cache? I believe this is what caused my issues with Illustrator before (opening too many files at once.)

How did you re-install OSX? Was it through Archive & Install?

Since doing that, have you Repaired Permissions?

I also recommend that you run DiskWarrior and Cocktail (or Onyx as some others do).

I did a complete reinstall. Erase & Install. 10.4 -> 10.5.6
Reinstalled Creative Suite3
Ran very fast, until I opened up 63 PNG's at once. Since then, it takes about 2 minutes to open up 5-10 PNG's.

I have Repaired Permissions in Disk Utility.

Downloading Onyx now...

I suggest running Disk Warrior too because your Directories probably got corrupted.

Also try trashing your Photoshop Prefs —especially since you re-installed CS3

Gif and png can only be saved if you're using RGB images GIF is index
color not RGB

True, but I was thinking in terms of going into "save as." GIF and PNG will show up as options if the image is RGB (I was assuming that the poster may have been trying to save CMYK images).
Now, having said that, going into save for web WILL allow you to save a GIF or PNG, but given that he wasn't seeing that option, I was only telling him why he wasn't able to see it as an option in his save menu.

For future reference:

The SFW Prefs have names like:
"Adobe Save for Web 11.0 Prefs"

You will see a Pref. in your Library/Preferences folder for every version of several different Adobe Applications.

I have a folder containing about 100 TIFF files, each containing an intricate shape against a transparent background.

I need to create an Alpha Channel in each one which replicates the transparent background.

Is there a way to do this "automatically" with Photoshop 7.0.1 (the only version I have access to) under MacOS X 10.4.11?

Record into an action and batch: select layer transparency, save selection as alpha channel. Watch your matting though, as it sounds like these files will be flattened and any feathering in the alpha channel will leads to a fringe of [white? black?]. You could tuck in the alpha channel mask a bit before you save. It depends on the final usage...

for some reason Ive another mind block and cant remember how to do a vignette on the edge of a picture.

Does anyone have a quick description of the process?

I know I start by creating a selection marque inside of the edge, but then what?

Feather the selection, invert the selection (as needed) and fill.
Or use a radial gradient (transparent on one side).
Or use a radial gradient adjustment layer.
