Chris, the installer logs have no data on failures or anomalys such as what I experienced? 11 errors noting missing program elements which appeared to then be solved by using the CS3 version. I don't remember the exact wording on the error message. It's here somewhere in these threads. I have 5 log files in that folder.

Ah, thanks Bart...I didn't know my idea was that outdated, but was beginning to wonder. I thought for certain I'd done that a few times with XP but maybe I lost track among the PCs at work I'd done some upgrades of. I hadn't really thought it likely to be a problem for MS, but I think I follow what you're thinking..

But at least 4 months down the road while clients are tapping the pencil on the desk.....
And I know how long it takes to get some tasks done in software. The vast majority of the time we only have management to mollify when the schedule slips, but customers and their clients? At $$$$/hr?

Thousands of files (images)have been save to a hard drive under CS, CS2
& CS3 in various formats, such as *.CR2, *.tif, *.psd, *.jpg, *.mrw. When
I attempt to open the images the following messages are returned depending
on the file extension: Could not complete your request because a JPEG
marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or too short).
(*.jpg) Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop
marker (*.psd) Could not complete your request because it is not the right
kind of document (*.CR2 & *.MRW). Any help would be greatly appreciated,

I am trying to install the 11.0.1 update, and all I get is a generic error "The Update Failed" with no details and no log entry. I have AV off, plenty of disk space, applications are closed, and all the other basics checked. Whether I download the update directly or use adobe updater, no go.
Any thoughts out there? Anyone having the same problem?
FYI - I'm using Vista 64-bit.

Same problem here. Photoshop is closed. I've tried installing from the version PS4 auto-downloads, as well as the one I downloaded from Adobe. Neither work. Everything is closed (browsers, AV, malware, etc.) and I've tried running it as admin and not as admin.
Photoshop CS4
Windows Vista 32-bit
Non-descript error message.

This week, I saw a guy working on a project using a product by OnOneSoftware.com called "Mask Pro"
He was extracting a woman from a very busy background. He effortlessly removed the woman, including strands of her hair in under a minute.
I wonder why Adobe cannot implement something so powerful in Photoshop ?
I am actually amazed at how well this program worked, I'm not sure if it is a plugin or stand-alone program, but it worked side-by-side with Photoshop.
This Mask Pro works by quickly picking colors that you want eliminate and ones you wish to keep. Each time you click on a color you wish to keep, it loads them onto a little column and you see the colors appear. Then you choose ones you wish to eliminate. These appear on another column. Amazing how this works !
You then take the special paintbrush tool, and just run over any area, such as the hair, and magically, it removed ALL background but leaves even the smallest strands of hair intact ! - It is truly wonderful to see.
I'm sure Adobe knows about this product, so I wonder why they cannot make something similar, or just buy the company out and implement their product in Photoshop. You have to see this tool in use to actually believe it.
Thanks,
Dave.

Have YOU actually used it, Dave?
Even with a dedicated plugin as capable as MaskPro, you still have to take the time to learn how to get the most out of it, and to use it efficiently. And that's not necessarily as easy as someone might make it look.
I don't mean that to say Mask Pro (or any of the other pro-level masking plugins) isn't useful—or possibly better than Photoshop's native tools at doing the same job—but to add my agreement to what Bart said.
There ARE no magic solutions. It'll STILL require a practiced level of expertise.

Exactly! and this means that if you have never used the plugin you wont be able to extract a woman from a very busy background effortlessly, including strands of her hair in under a minute.

Let me guess ... the sample picture was one with significant contrast between the hair and background. Ask to see an example where the hair color is close to the background color.

Photoshop ships with a similar, though simpler, tool called Extract. As of
CS4, which integrates many of the Extract tool's functions into Photoshop
proper, the Extract tool is available in the goodies folder.
