Ann and the rest do feel sorry for you Steph. That's why they tried to help.

Post 34 is gibberish. Good luck with that.

And just for shits and giggles: how long has Chris with his unexplained authoritativeness (read: knowledge) been working in "the industry"?

I picked this up in 6 months. Get cracking, girl.

the same thing for the next file but turned all color on to working. I
made a third file with color management on to working and a different
monitor file...Now that you all know...

Thanks for clear that up!

Use Bicubic Sharper in a single step to downsample, Bicubic Smoother in a single step to upsample. Forget what you read.

[Doing it in increments multiplies the re-sampling artifacts.]

Right, but nevertheless, use Bicubic Sharper to downsample.

Especially free ones

Also possibly some threat creators and certainly many of the folks who
make dire Mac threat warnings are actually involved in the business of
trying to sell a magic buy-this Mac-security panacea.

You acknowledge that an app is free but then you suspect commercial motives. Hmmm...

I'd love to know what 'in-the-wild' really means. Is there a ranch or sanctuary where viruses are kept safe from the public? Does it have a moat or just a cheap plank fence? That exploit list was not imagined. Only a few are 'proof of concepts' (there is, of course, some absurdity in protecting against the Classic viruses at the bottom of the list when the software only runs on 10.5 and Intel). Quite a few of the listed threats are keyloggers. Wouldn't you like to know if you had a keylogger on your system? Seeing that all it takes to gain administrative access to most Macs is a system DVD, a manager of multiple computers would likely be interested in some sort of protection or analysis tool.

Agreed, the term is poorly defined. In my usage I meant instances where large numbers of random users are affected during their normal daily computer usage, such as the current 9 million Windows boxes estimated infected with the Conficker worm. As opposed for instance to in the lab or at a hack contest at a hackers conference.

a manager of multiple computers would likely be interested in some sort
of protection or analysis tool.

Of course we are interested in well proven tools. However the tools themselves are not risk-free, so security implementation is not simple. Tools can be unstable, vulnerable or even suspect.

Hmmm...

No. I am especially cautious as regards using free apps due to the probability of generally less stable less well tested code. As to commercial motives, I suspect virus/malware writers and perhaps some a/v firms as well.

I use a lot of adjustment layers and color fills. Previously, for as long as I can remember, upon creating a new adjustment layer or color fill, I could begin painting on the mask immediately after creating it. Furthermore, upon clicking on any layer with a mask, the mask would automatically become the "active" area.

Now with CS4, I find I have to click directly on a layer mask in order to paint on it EVERY time I create a masked layer or click on a different layer and click again on the masked layer.

Is there any way to tell Photoshop to automatically select a layer mask when working on a masked layer like it used to do? I'm clicking like 100x more than I used to.

Thanks.

rkny

When I create a web gallery in PSCS3, the gallery does not include the fields I check off. For example, the Large Image in the Horizontal Simple format does not include the File Name or Description or Copyright, even though I have those fields checked off. This is a new problem, in that it was working fine until recently. I have restarted the Mac but the problem persists. Thanks for advise. Mark W.

That sounds as if the Template that you are using got changed or damaged in some way.

Try one of the other templates and see if that one works.

Also try trashing your Photoshop Prefs..

Thanks Ann, I am having the same problem with other templates, but I just tried creating a gallery "from scratch", i.e. creating a new destination folder, and it finally worked OK. But, I will trash the PS Preferences and see if that helps.

Talk to them because I got the impression from their web site that they offered a service to make Custom Profiles — in addition to making high quality prints for customers.

As they seem pretty Profile-savvy, I suspect that they can provide you with Profiles for their stock on their printers; as well as with instructions for using their services.

I also noticed that they are prepared to provide a Proof print before doing the full Print Run.

You might also send a print which you have made to them with a "Please match this" note attached.

I'm working with another designer who is silhouetting images for use in InDesign using paths and clipping path. He's doing them all exactly the same, however some import as an inverted image...the background shows and the person is knocked out.

I have checked the path in his image and although they are all identical, the ones that place inverted are also inverted on the icon for the path. (portion silhouetted is grey, background white) In the images that work properly the silhouette is white and the background is grey.

This doesn't make any sense because the path is around the part of the image that is supposed to be visible in BOTH situations.

Is there some setting I'm not aware of that could be causing this?

Thanks,
Carole

Portables, shmortables; laptops, shmaptops. We're talking real Macs here.

[EDIT: Really, if I'd known we were discussing MacBooks, I wouldn't even
had read the thread.]

Even if it applied to both desktops and notebooks? I didn't realize there was a pecking order amongst Mac owners. So how about the original topic which you so graciously thought to take way off-topic... Certianly you have an opinion on it?

v6:

Look in your Tool Bar and see which tool is active before typing in a zoom factor.

Actually, I never do that.

I just use Cmd Spacebar; or Cmd Option Spacebar; or Cmd+; or Cmd -; or Cmd Zero; or Cmd Option Zero or the the new OpenGL zooming — all of which work regardless of which Tool you are using.

Chris that has to be just about the most unhelpful response that I keep seeing over and over in the forums. The fact is that for some reason CS4 doesn't work right in Spaces and nearly every other application (in my experience) does, including CS3. No matter whose fault that is Adobe is the one who looks like a fool when it happens and the onus is on them to get it working to avoiding looking so foolish/incompetent.

I'm sure you'll tell me "I've seen other applications with bugs in Spaces, even Apple products" and that may be but in my experience using Spaces with a ton of apps nothing even approaches the train wreck that happens with any CS4 app.

I'm going to buy a Mac Pro. Which graphic card is ideal for PsCS4? I also want to do some video editing and 3DSMax on Windows XP but mostly PsCS4 in Leopard. As I was just told there are four possible choices.

Thanks!
