Brent

Buko was joking.

Did you read the whole thread?

There is no problem, it is just a matter of adapting to a slightly different way of doing things. I haven't seen a tab since I turned them off five months ago.

Sometimes progress means being flexible.

And you can't please all the people all the time.

ND,

I believe that the PS team is working with both nVidia and ATI on issues. Progress has been made. Several PS .release betas have been issued and tested. In my personal case, the second PS .beta resolved many of my OGL issues. Important issues remain and I am sure they will be resolved.

It will take time -- just the nature of the beast. In my 17 years as an IT and Operations executive; for any/all SW, the X.1 will always be the safer route. You can always expect some pain with the X.0 release.

Gamers are a very important part of the market, but many of the very high-end cards are really not directed there. Look at the nVidia CX series as an example. Most typical gamers do not spend $2K - $4K USD on a card.

My laptop has this chipset as it's graphic card: Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset

I'm running Vista Home Edition with 3G RAM and I just updated the graphic card drivers.

Photoshop's GPU options are greyed out, and I can't use the rotate tool. Does this chipset simply not have the capacity to support whatever the program wants, or am I just not configuring something right?

The laptop is an ASUS F80L (which has not much information online itself).

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that graphic adaptor will not support the GPU feature.

To get more system details, in Photoshop go to Help > System Info...

You can copy and paste that, but remove the serial number if you show it on the Internet.

Somewhere on this board, in a thread, a Intel person chirped in and wrote that they are working on drivers for their mobile chipsets. This has been a while ago and I have not seen a update message.

The ICC profile AdobeRGB1998 doesn't contain
a linear segment. The tone reproduction curve
is defined by a mathematical power function
with exponent 2.2.
Similarly for ProPhotoRGB, with exponent 1.8.
This can be shown by ICC Profile Inspector.
<http://www.color.org/profileinspector.xalter>

There are good reasons for using a linear slope
at the dark end, but IMO the profiles should be
re-defined. Otherwise some inaccuracies can be
expected.

ICC Profile Inspector doesn't tell us an exponent
for sRGB, because the TRC is defined by a linear
part and a power function with exponent 2.4.
This delivers with good accuracy an average expo-
nent of 2.2.

Best regards --Gernot Hoffmann

I just tried Curvemeister's method with new window and arrow keys.

It works beautifully. Great tip.

Seems to be the best method so far! The reference point has an annoying habit of resetting itself if I switch windows to tweak the view, but that's small potatoes. Thanks!

What is the difference between Actual Pixels and Actual Print Size?

I assume you are referring to the special zoom modes of "Actual Pixels" and "Print Size".

Actual pixels displays the image on your monitor so that 1 image pixel uses exactly 1 monitor pixel. This zoom state allows you to see the maximum amount of detail available in your image, including detail that you will not likely see if you print at common sizes.

Print size (I don't remember ever seeing "Actual Print Size" anywhere in Photoshop) is Photoshop's attempt to show you the image at roughly the same dimensions on screen (in inches or centimeters, not pixels) that it will print at.

In order for Print Size to work reasonably well, you need to make sure that the units in the Preferences are set correctly. To check this, do the following:
Edit>Preferences>Units and Rulers...
Look at the number for Screen Resolution. This needs to be set at the pixels per inch for your monitor. In the past, this was commonly thought of as 72 but these days monitors often have PPIs in the 90s or greater. You can calculate this for your monitor by measuring the width of the screen and then divide the pixel width of your monitor by this number. In my case for example, my monitor displays 1920 pixels horizontally and is 20.5 inches wide. That makes my Screen Resolution approx. 94 pixels per inch (1920/20.5).

Once you have the preference set correctly, then when you select "Print Size" the image will appear on-screen at about the same dimensions as it will print, assuming the current document dimensions and resolutions (as shown in Image>Image Size, for example) are maintained through to printing.

For example, if Image>Image Size tells you that you currently have an image that is 8x10 inches, then if you select the zoom mode of "Print Size", the image should be approx. 8x10 inches on your screen.

Actual pixels shows the image at 100%, Print Size should show the image at approximately the size it will print, but the real print size is shown in the Document Size box in the Image size dialog.

I can't get the red brush preview to work. I can change the brush size through the shortcut (alt, right-click, drag), but it doesn't preview.

Also, when I try to change the hardness, I get no preview at all either. The command works, but all I get it a round hairline.

Thanks in advance for your help

Jose

Using the drawing tool (line, rectangle, etc.), if I draw a second shape, the first one disappears. What is the procedure for keeping previous shapes before drawing new ones?

Rob,
To clarify. When I said "I tried it" I didn't try Imagenomic's Portraiture. I meant that I checked ARRANGE DOCUMENTS and the top half of the pull-sown was blank.

This situation really sucks.

I have included a web gallery (created in Photoshop) to my website. Everything works fine; however, after scrolling through the photos there isn't a link to help return to the site's home page. The only option is to click the back arrow many times until you get there. Any ideas how to do this?

Thank you.

Someone else asked the same question recently. If you can change the HTML code for your link to the web gallery you could add TARGET="blank" like this HREF="http://www.nnnnnnnnnnnn.co.uk" TARGET="_blank".
This will open your slide show in a new window so when you close it your web site will still be in view. There are other ways to do it but this way is quite easy.
Geoff.

Bruno: I have a 8600GT (which works perfectly), when I go to the nVidia control panel with advanced settings I cannot find: 3D Interaction, Force Bilinear Interpolation, Advanced Drawing, Use for Image Display or Color Matching in the settings. Hmmmmm!
