..."You can upres your tiny original, but you'll just wind up with a large soft image instead of large blocky pixels."...

True but what's got me still wondering at this point is what Buko said about upping the resolution on a deficient file as to provide a base of sorts for a high resolution project-from-scratch which is created on top of the "uprezzed originally low rez file/image". Now all I gotta do is find out what the procedure is for uprezzing the thing is....lol. The original, low resolution image is going to be destroyed by the overpainting and doesn't need to be of anything approaching even "fair" quality (except for the initial uprezzing which won't be intended to affect it....only the overpainting.) unless there's something else I'm missing in the translation here. The "throwaway image" being painted over (a jpeg photograph in this case) is like the gesture drawing underneath an oil painting..

This is not the way a purist would do it but it is maybe more understandable.

Go to File > New. Set the size in inches that you want the final picture to have, and the resolution to 300 ppi. Click OK.

Open the low res picture. Select the Move tool and, holding down Shift to keep it centred, drag the image into the frame of your new picture (it will be tiny).

Press Command+T and, holding Shift to keep the aspect ratio, drag the image out by the corners to fill the frame.

Create a new layer to paint on. You can discard the layer with the enlarged original image when you're done.

Painter would probably be a better choice for doing this.

No mention of the version of the OS, of Photoshop (it is CS4, since it has tabs)
The screenshot does not show the zoom ratio of the images...

The posted images are totally devoid of context and are inconclusive.

In addition to EyeOne2, you can use Spyder3. But hardware is the only accurate and consistent way to calibrate your monitor. Such calibration depends upon its own screen interface.

There are more than 10 channels, I used in the pas the HSL/HSB plug-in...That would make, what, 14 channels? If, IIRC, the L from Lab is not the same as the L from HSL...

Mike, I'm waiting for your book!

Did anybody here say there weren't? Must have missed that. :/

I'd be grateful for any help I can get with regards to a quick and easy way to remove strands of (fly away) hair from an image. I have images of a bride with strands of hair that are across her face and I would like to be able to remove these if possible.

Also, there are some pieces of hair that have come loose and I'd like to tidy these up as well but I'm just not sure how to start. I didn't want to use cloning or healing brush if possible.

Thanks & regards,

Cliff

Can you explain why not? Is it a philosophical thing?

I've no major problems with either cloning or healing brush but I find it a bit time consuming sometimes and just wondered if there is a quicker method.

Cliff,

just wondered if there is a quicker method.

Unwanted hairs can be difficult to resolve neatly and realistically, depending upon the background, and especially if you are working on a face. Because we recognize people first by their faces, careless retouching you do to a human face is more readily apparent than to almost anything else. And single hairs are far easier than locks of hair.

Learn to carefully clone and heal. And it will be time-consuming.

Incidentally, this suggests a new topic for the Typography forum. Never use a decimal point without a number to the left of said point. I bet you any MIT graduate will write 0.56 GB. ;)

Actually, using a zero in front of a decimal is pretty common in Europe. You'll generally see, say, € 0.56, rather than € .56. (But in the States, you often see such idiocy as .25¢ -- just try handing the clerk a penny and telling him he can "keep the change.") <g>

But we digress...

John,

Be prepared to get pounced upon by forum users. This is exactly the forum design we love and have fought very, very hard to maintain.

Way to go buddy, you come to the forums asking for help and the first thing you do is insult everybody here.

Besides, this is not even the proper forum to discuss the forum itself. We have a dedicated forum for that:

<http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ee6b30e/>

Good luck with your issue.

john,

CS3. I used it a couple of times. Now it is not there. I reinstalled CS3
and it is still not there.

You've told us nothing about your computer or its setup, what maintenance you've done or how you've uninstalled/reinstalled Photoshop, if you've reset its preferences, or if there were any changes to your computer just before you started having problems.

We don't have palettes in CS4 anymore, they're called panels now.

Of course, The OP doesn't specify what version he's using, but he does refer to a panel. :/

I've done some research and to remove CS2, just move to trash? I'm afraid of removing something I am not supposed to. I have CS3 already installed and I have CS4 ready to install. I want to keep CS3 on my system.

I bought CS3 as a suite and I do have the uninstaller, but it wants to remove the whole suite, which I don't want to do.

Can anyone provide some information or point me in the right direction to a site or something so I can correctly remove this software?

Thank You

But do not attempt to do that with CS3 or later. Use the uninstaller utility.

thanks again, all. My issue was not the ability to jump from one to another quickly, but the need to have more than one file viewable at one time in order to make comparisons.

just for the record, Indeed, I am a few decades short of being an old fogey, and eagerness to learn new ways is a key to my success. My choice of turning off the tabs only means that for now, I can continue as before and get work done that has a very short deadline.

Thanks much for the assistance, all who responded

Am looking for a good masking plug-in.

Any experience/opinions with Fluid-Mask v. Mask Pro?

Thanks.
