Ben,

that may work occasionally, but in the long run it's not
a good solution.
You'll need printer calibration hardware and software.
GretagMacbeth ProfileMaker is OK but very expensive.

You may ask here for a cheaper solution:
<http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.eea5b31>

By the way: for visual tests I would use the IT8-target
on page 5:
<http://www.fho-emden.de/~hoffmann/a3gencolorhigh.pdf>

Very important is the gray step wedge. Some patches
are out of gamut for sRGB, indicated by a small square.
This doesn't matter.

Best regards --Gernot Hoffmann

Hello,

Please advice about the configuration of a suitable computer
for PS. Which is better a dual core Intel with 4Gb ram or
a triple core AMD with 3Gb ram?
Is there any significant difference in performance if the graphics card has 512Mb memory instead of 256Mb?
How should PS be configured for best performance?

Thank you for your opinion,
Martti

marti: more RAM for both (8) & the more video RAM the better, get one with DDR3 RAM on it. I use a BFG OC.

Dave: "you COULD use that right away to upgrade to cs4 direct from adobe. that way you're sure you have a fully legit version and they couldn't change their mind at a later date... just a thought. "

I'm not getting what you're saying. Who could change their mind? If Adobe told me it IS legit, how could they change their mind? They could just yank the number back?

You stated my plan. I did get CS3 so it wouldn't be expensive to use later versions. CS3 is the last chance to upgrade from &. CS4 won't allow that according to the need-to-have checklist. It's cheaper than buying the entire package. But I can't afford to upgrade right now.

Have we figured out how to tell whether it's an upgrade, yet? I don't want to uninstall Photoshop 7 and Photoshop cs3 just to see if Photoshop cs333 would install without 7.

You're not legal anyway if you bought a 7.0 to CS3 upgrade. You don't
have a legal copy of Photoshop 7.0.

XD true. technically, you still need that transfer of license form from your friend.

You have to make sure that the guidelines are actually positioned precisely on the line that separates one row or column of pixels from the row or column adjacent to it.

Also, understand that when creating anything that is vector-based (custom shapes, paths) that the edges of those objects aren't constrained to necessarily snap to pixel edges, unless you set them to behave that way in the Options Bar. With raster-based objects (marquees, masks, any sort of painting, blurring, erasing, etc) they—by definition—will either fill an entire pixel, or they will not. Never forget that anything displayed as pixels can't fill only a portion of a pixel. The pixel is either fully "engaged" or it's not. There is not half-a-pixel with raster-based display of an image.

The following thread may be related to the problem you're having, or it may not. Either way, the original question—and my long-winded explanation—might help increase your understanding. Hey...it's worth a shot! :)

When my copy would install on other computers, I figured it had to be the CD, or the way that CD interacted with my computer, despite the fact that I have two Pioneer burners (DVR-110D and DVR-111D) which operate perfectly. So I made a copy of it on another computer, and the new CD installed OK on mine. It really remains a mystery why that worked with me as it defies logic, but you might try installing your CD on another computer and see if you have the same problem, and if so, try my solution. Good luck.

So here's what I'm trying to do. I'm working on something that requires two layers. In in one layer I'm supposed to draw something using the lasso tool, and then afterwards go to the other layer and change the upper output level. Unfortunately, it's not working for me and no levels are changing. This process works when I use the line tool to draw in the first layer but not when I switch to the lasso tool. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I hope you're referring to Photoshop Elements. If so, you're in the
wrong forum...Elements is down the hall.

The Lasso is not a drawing tool ordinarily. I think you are leaving something out. Also, what is the "Output Level"? Are you talking about Levels? That would not affect a Lasso selection. Pixels are required.

Hi Steve,

Perfect! I have added one last step:

9) Clear crop dimensions, then re-crop just the part of the image you want to print.

Thank you so much.

Chris,

I am not sure who your post was pointed to, but I did state "...WHICH problem..." in my post...i.e. "...paint stopping..."

This is the same problem as stated by the OP, "...CS4 OpenGL stops working after a few minutes of painting..."

I would ask that the engineering team focus on this problem. Other "interloopers" can and should start their own threads.

John
