Thanks Ramon.
I never shut my computer down at night, but I usually put it into sleep mode. I guess it's saying this will prevent the maintenance from taking place. If I leave the computer running as normal when I leave it at night, I suppose this does the trick-- even though it eventually enters sleep mode automatically?

Nope. If the computer is sleeping, the Cron Scripts do not run. It doesn't matter when it began to sleep or how.

There is NO need to manually run the cron jobs in Leopard.

With Leopard, if the computer is sleeping or off when the crons are supposed run, they will run the next time the machine is started up.

Ann,

DiskWarriot is an essential tool. it is not free and you do need to buy
it on a CD (Apple stores stock it).

When I last upgraded DiskWarrior as a download, I followed Alsoft's instructions for creating a bootable disc. But, buying a disc instead is, of course, one less thing to do.

That's what they claimed with 10.4.2—and it turned out to be an unsubstantiated assertion.

I cannot vouch for the stinky Leopard one way or another.

It absolutely works in Leopard. This is easily verifiable by checking the logs in Console. (/var/log - daily.out, weekly.out, monthly.out)

I cannot vouch for the stinky Leopard one way or another.

Of course not - you've never used it. Leopard is not the ogre it's made out to be by some of you.

Neil:

As I recall it, I did have to have the original CD in order to create an upgraded CD from the downloadable Upgrade software.

What's the lowest ratio of dpi:ppi? What confuses me is how anyone could confuse the two. In conventional screening, doesn't an order of magnitude stand between the two numbers? The lowest multiplier I ever output to film was a solid dozen. Maybe a carpenter can weigh in on feet versus inches when cutting twice...

Steve: "72 dpi RGB for large format digital graphics. 300 dpi CMYK for printed (magazines) materials." These numbers are for images. Got type? Any logos on that banner?

Be sure to read the link in post 10. And then start using these terms in conversation. B)

I print a lot of five foot banners and always appreciate that my vector objects get printed better than 72 ppi. Of course there's some additional risk, but the payoff has always seemed worth it.

Mark me down as another person here who used to design, scan for, assemble, send to RIP and print banners, billboards and wraps. The math, the distinct terminology and specific processes are important factors to be correct and accurate about.

So don't think your job is an esoteric one, Steve.

Alright Chris.

Great.
Will turn it off for now and then check the new Eizo v5.2.1 software to see if that helps.
I wonder why no one else with Eizo ColorEdge CG monitors and Photoshop CS4 didn't report something in here ?
Maybe they didn't noticed anything yet. You have to have focus on things.. lol
It was just out of luck that i discovered it. I was working on some pictures and had the same pictures showed in Bridge CS4 behind Photoshop and there to my suprice i saw something was not right ??? My Bridge thumbnails was darker that my working picture in PS.
So i started to check around on the internet and finally here.

Lets see if anybody else finds this problem.

Anyway. I get back to you Chris

This is new occurrence. When hitting print, I receive a window that says:
Before you can perform printer-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer.

When I click OK, a new window appears saying: Could not complete the Print command because of a problem using the Adobe Color Engine.

I have two printers installed: Epson CX9300F and Epson 3850. Used printer last week no problemo.

MAC lap Pro 10.5 up to date.

HELP. HAVE NEW EPSON 3850 AND WANT TO PRINT.

Thanx in advance

Turn check your printer connections and turn on all of your Printers.

Launch Printer Set-up Utility: Select and Delete all of the Printers.
Then Add each of your printers again.

If you have Epson printers, go to Epson UK to get the most recent Drivers and profiles because, for some unfathomable reason, Epson USA seldom seems to list the most recent Drivers.

Outdated Epson Drivers have caused a lot of people to find that their prints made through CS4 are too dark.

Vicki,

A good font manager (such as FontAgent Pro) can quickly tell you if a font is corrupted, missing some component, or is installed more than once. All of these factors can lead to a coarse, pixelated appearance.

In addition, if you have more than a handful to two of fonts (and many of us do), it allows you to just activate those fonts you need for the day's work, shorten your font menus and keep your system and apps from getting bogged down. It also allows you to organize your fonts and see convenient, meaningful displays of your fonts so you can make better decisions about using them for a job.

I would start by trying a New User (on the theory only Ps is hosing that font).
<http://www.gballard.net/macrant/osx_troubleshooting.html>

If the problem clears here, go back to you normal account and delete your Ps user preferences.

Also Font Agent Pro has a free demo you can download and check your fonts.

Magic Eye images contain two images (one for each eye) that create an illusion of 3dimensionality. They are coverd with a pattern that helps you overlapping them by squinting. Is there a way to recover the original hidden image (a greyscale image where white comes towards you and black goes away from you)? I've tried Ps's Difference Mode, here are the results:
<http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1RwVXelUAyoMyTb2DFKSZtcJ9Jqi1>

The hidden image on the left is a flat shape (Normal view on top, Difference blending mode applied to a copy of the layer and then moved horizontally until the shape appears). The one on the right is a 3d shape and you can go from front to back through the shape by moving the top layer from left to right (or right to left). I would like to have patternless image instead, that features all "layers" (not Ps Layers) of the 3d body as brightness levels (height map) similar to this:

Another solution is to edit your actions on the destination computer. The only thing that changes with different machines are file locations. If you double click the saving and opening steps in the action panel, it will allow you to redefine these. This is WITHOUT using a text editor on the .atn file

Yes but manual editing can be time consuming for the user if there are many actions to modify, also a lot of users do not have the Photoshop knowledge that you have.
I am in the process of writing a script that will install all the actions sets/scripts on different platforms and different versions of Photoshop and all the user has to do is run the install script.

Why do some multi-layer, multi channel PSD files preview in the Finder with only part of an image? It appears the file preview is being extracted through the contents of the first alpha channel in the file. <http://tinyurl.com/d4gmuf>

I have Thumbnails, Full Size and Compatibility Always checked.
This has been like this for a few versions of PS.

Yes, CMYK in both versions. CMYK working spaces: Euroscale Coated v2, all other color settings are the same.

And now the best things. I created project in CS3 (simply gradient map with C100 M0 Y0 K0 as one of value), save and then open in CS4... And gradient is OK! I checked info window - OK, then value in gradient editor - OK. Save and reopen - OK.
Conclusion. In CS4 you can operate on this kind of gradient map but can`t create it.

To Mark: Kenneth`s example is proof I`m not one and only.

One thing. Now I see this issue appeared in PS Mac forum and I work on PC/Vista64/XP. But I guess, it`s no matter.

I have just taken delivery of an Epson R1900 Photo printer (Staples had a "Deal" on them that was simply too good to be missed). It is probably because there is a new model in the pipeline, but, for for the little that I paid, who cares!

It needs to be stated that the R1900 is for printing Photographs and you will probably need another printer in addition to it for output from Vector programs such as Illustrator. (I still have my trusty Epson 1270 for that.)

I am printing 16-bit ProPhoto RGB images through Photoshop CS4 (with Photoshop managing colors using the down-loadable Epson Premium profiles) and the smoothness of tones, lack of banding and incredible image detail in the results are outstanding.

Unfortunately it is only CS4 on a Mac that lets you print at 16 bits — that technology is not available to Windows-users at this time — but if you have CS4 on a Mac and a printer like the R1900, do try printing ProPhoto RGB with 16-bits.

It is great to see Adobe people taking an interest in this. What I would LOVE to see made possible for Europeans is the "select one layer above" and below -shortcuts, which make possible to cycle through layers quickly. As I understand, they don't appear in the shortcuts or menus so I can't map them anywhere by myself. Or they could be an urban legend... :/

As a sideline, "the other program" - Corel Painter X has worse problems with non-US keyboards - it just replaces your normal keyboard layout with the US one and that's it. Corel isn't really big on bug fixes so I suppose that's not going to change any time soon.
