Thanks for the info. Re the theory that "the issue is related to some OEM configurations of Windows XP or Vista," you'll want to abandon that theory. My installation is 100% from scratch from a computer I built myself. Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I'll be trying your remedy tonight.

Gotta agree there...but I recommend that you download the beta and give
it a whirl...it's really nice.

All of the reviews seem to be very positive, too.

east coast usa. it's morning. 08:44am here. if you look at the forum's time stamps, i'm 3 hours later than that. you're in uk rob? so that +5 or 6 from me. isn't it happy hour yet?!! :)

I might on a separate box. but i'm jumping either way when it's gold. i'm not to fussed about running a beta os, even though some are saying it's already better than vista.

All of the reviews seem to be very positive, too.

the one i hear from all over is that it's fast and smooth! just how i like my wimmin! :)

Or so MS would have you believe. You really think Vista was intended to be real? It's just a holdover, man. It's New Coke. It's XP SP4!

If you want accurate you must set the monitor to its native resolution.

Thanks Robert - I'm chasing that down now. Having a recent HP computer and adding an HP monitor I assumed they'd automatically sort each other out - not so. Even downloading the driver and installing it does not register where and as it should in Vista settings. Back to HP support. I have also found an "aspect ratio" setting in the monitor menu which gets me close to what I want with space on each side of the main display- menus can be moved off the photoshop frame to the right but not alas to the left so I may have to relearn 10 years worth of photoclicking. many thanks Derek Simpson

No possibility of taking another photo?

That'd be my first choice, because I wouldn't want to mess with the artist's intentions either.

Not only could you get rid of that shadow, but you might think about positioning the lighting to better reveal the artist's brushstrokes.

Well, it might be possible to take another photograph but it's not easy. It's on my To Do list but I was hoping PS might get me through in the mean time.

Thanks

Hi,
This must be a simple task, but when I open an image and latter decide to change the sky how do I bring in the second as when I try it it changes the original image to the new one.

Alan,

It sounds like you are just starting out in Photoshop. There is a ton of information and tutorials on the Web that is available for free. To start, I recommend you check out the video tutorials on Russell Brown's site - in particular the tutorial titled "The Day With No Sky (Part Two)". Here is the link:

I have CS2 and the CS4 upgrade fails. I get the "loading setup" screen for a second and then the install hangs. I cannot get the thing uninstalled either. I have gone over the list of requirements and install issues and cannot find a solution.

Any help is appreciated.

One reason to watermark is people will download, rename & pass the files
around... eventually someone might want a bigger copy, or at least
wonder who did it & where they can see more. My approach is to apply a
very small watermark with the most subtle transparency I can get away
with. Think of it like a signature on a painting, just a little thing
down in the corner. The big ones are annoying and detract from
appreciating the photo. If it's on a stock photo site, that's
understandable but not if people are supposed to visit the gallery for
pleasure. In that case, if it's the sort of image people might steal for
commercial use on the web, I'd rather see a faint 'X' across the image
than a big logo & copyright. Also, with a small watermark in the corner,
people will just crop that out.

First of all, it looks as if the file hasn't been flattened.

The snow scene has mismatched exposure values. If you open both in raw, you can match them close enough by eye to get an even match. Photomerge will do the final match.

I see you have tried merge layers. Do a complete flattening instead of merge.

I have several black and white JPEG images which will be printed by a
commercial printery into our telephone directories. The printing process
can't handle gradational gray tones. In the old days, we would xerox the
photos through a clear plastic screen covered with tiny white dots before
printing. What is the equivalent process in Photoshop. My clear plastic
sheet has long since been lost.

Photoshop 7 has suddenly stopped showing object handles, so I am unable to resize or transform a portion of an image that I have selected. I can find no instructions as to how I can get the handles to show again. Can anyone help?

Invoking the Free Transform function (CTRL + T, or from the Edit menu) will cause the Transform Bounding Box to appear.

If you want to see the TBB all the time, select your Move Tool. In the Options Bar check the box labeled "Show Transform Controls."
