downloaded the 1270 driver from the UK sire but will try it tomorrow.
They didn't list a 1280, just a 1270 & 1290.

That might not work. My Epson 2200 is called the Epson 2100 in the EU and UK, and the driver for the 2100 and the 2200 printer do not recognize each other. Bummer.

I've had excellent results lately with the Gutenprint driver, which I started using in order to take advantage of 16-bit printer, which is not offered by the Epson driver for the 2200.

And expletives should perform an undo?

I thought that Mac OS had a foundation for voice control, but I guess that it needs to have access to "hooks" in the Application Scripting
Even automator has no control on this?

Unless Chris means that there is no built-in voice control in Photoshop, but it can be built using the OS tools?

Kristin

Let me explain something about software when a software is updated it often fixes bugs that where there before and often is created with better support for existing and new features in bring this support to the application it might not bee as tolerant or compatible with corruption of say profiles and hardware issues.

For instance Illustrator 10 was much more tolerant of corrupt fonts then Illustrator CS and everyone who had issues with fonts said but Illustrator 10 runs fine with the same fonts.

Buko had a good point did you try a new user? Also did you check your cable connections,
this issue was once around before a long time ago with the same scenario but with earlier version software. They found the solution but I admit i cannot recall. But it was something that seem very unlikely to be related to the transform command.

Perhaps it was the scratch disk or more then likely a conflict with a software you have installed. which is what i think and why no one else is seeing this.

You yourself have pointed to this as being the probable cause.

Yu uninstall reinstalled the system then all of your applications, All of your applications is the clue and probably the indictment.

Next tie your reinstall do it the right way. Either archive reinstall the system but first uninstall all your applications, then install the CS 4 then without installing anything else launch Photoshop CS 4 and use the transform commands. Aha it works fine, now reinstall your software one at a time and each time launch that application then launch Photoshop
and then us the transform commands. OK that one work and that one work…hey I think this is fix…hey what happen…oh man its back!

Now you know where the conflict lies.

More then likely.

You don't by any chance have a haxie installed? One that alters the OS?

One that you like a lot and forgot to mention?

To counter-balance the previous post...

&bul; an external firewire drive is nothing to sneeze at.

&bul; as one that moves computers to various events, an iMac is much more mobile than a tower and works much better than a laptop.

&bul; RAM capacity typically improves with new releases of the iMac. We're not going to be stuck at 4GB forever. Apple markets the iMac for home use with iLife. Garageband and iMovie are not wimpy apps. Any system that can run these apps can run Photoshop as well.

Let's not forget the key words from the first post: 'I am a web designer'. The discussion over iMac power belongs in another thread. Web designers do not hunger for RAM or extreme processing power. It is clear that Nathan made a professional choice in his system. There's no need to challenge or question his choice.

Hey Dan,

I've found the "PS CS4 goodie" folder on the adobe site and installed the contact sheet II option into the automate area - you should be able to do the same and save the actions set you use in CS3 then bring the set into CS4 and get what you need with out having to keep going back into CS3. It's just not practical for me to have a set of contacts in pdf format, it's definitely a step backwards for me.
I'd hoped for an improvement, currently I drag the custom sized sheets I've got it generating as tiff files onto another tiff template I've set up, so I can include a title etc on the actual print out - but this is time consuming. I hope you dont mind me asking but how did you edit yours with actions? I'd love to automate the process but not sure how as each title is different as per the job, and I like to add page numbers.

Apologies for the rambling rant, hope you get sorted Dan.

I'm operating with two monitors. On my main monitor I have the Preview Panel open at full screen size. On my secondary monitor I have the content panel open with thumbnails showing. I've tried several times to save this as a single workspace but to no avail. Saving the main monitor workspace is fine. But I then need to save the second monitor workspace as a separate workspace.
In doing so the second monitor workspace (thumbnails) jumps back to the first monitor & emulates what the main monitor shows. I'd like to be able to save dual monitor workspaces as unique workspaces. Hope this makes sense.
Kevin

Kevin,

You don't mention what versions of Bridge and the OS you're running.

I have the Preview panel on my main monitor and everything else on the second monitor. This works for me in CS4 and in CS3 or CS2. No problem saving that as my default space.

Start fresh, and this time do not attempt to move the pods around, rather move the panels. Bridge doesn't like it when you move the pods themselves.

Does anyone know if I can get it back in the automate settings, perhaps as a legacy function?

I've just downloaded the PS CS4 and LR2 trials (and using the beta LR2.2 and beta ACR) as my PS CS2 and old raw plugin don't open my new cameras images.
imho I don't think they've really thought it through from a workflow pov, I provide both contacts and a pdf slideshow to my clients. If I use the bridge/output method for both on every job - and all the swapping over of the options that entails I will be smacking my head off the nearest wall after a couple of days.
The bridge/output also limits my choices severely - I thought the idea of upgrading was to IMPROVE functionality......... I'm not usually a grumbler, but I'm about to pay an upgrade price of nearly a grand (in £'s - not $!) essentially for a lovely raw plugin and nice LR2 web galleries - it's not looking like a particularly good deal :-(
I've found the "PS CS4 goodie" folder on the adobe site and installed the contact sheet II option into the automate area - it's just not practical for me to have a set of contacts in pdf format, it's definitely a step backwards for me.
I'd hoped for an improvement, with options to include a title, date etc - but nope.
I'm also not happy with the pdf slideshow in bridge/output - I miss the compression options, I often need to keep them small on the file front - whilst keeping the screen looking good (150ppi compression works well) - which I don't have the ability to do this in cs4, constraining to screen size choices with a "high" or "low" option is useless to me. I just don't get it - this is pro software - with a pro price - is it too much to ask for more pro workflow considerations? Come on Adobe, play the game......
Apologies for the rambling rant and general grumpiness - all help & suggestions very much appreciated :-)

I cut a 6"x4" piece of newspaper into small pieces & spread them face down on a flatbed scanner.
On top of the pieces I put a matte black piece of paper and scanned.
In photoshop I selected, and put each small piece onto its own layer. So each layer had a small piece of newspaper on a transparent background.
I'm trying to unite the pieces back to their original state in Photoshop.

Problem: When I rotate one of the images on a layer in FREE TRANSFORM it gets distorted also with the Rotate command. I have seen many tutorials on Free Transform, tried everything, have a good idea how to use it…I think…. .Please Help

Before we tackle your question, perhaps you could give us an idea about why you chose to cut the newspaper article before scanning, when it would be easier and more accurate to do in pPhotoshop after you've scanned the piece intact?

Andy,

Unfortunately, Photoshop cannot do the CSI magic of taking broken pieces of glass or torn up messages and magically reassemble them. And it would be time consuming to do this as you're attempting with just Photoshop.

My recommendation would be to take the actual pieces, turn them over and assemble them by hand, use a low tack tape to hold them in place and refine their alignment. Then carefully place the reconstructed result onto a flatbed scanner. Scan at a high resolution, touch up the edges in Photoshop and save.

Hope you're not talking about shredder-size pieces...

Neil

yea the new key commands are **horrible**. I'm really looking for a way to get back the control ~ command when I have a channel selected (say, the red channel, but I want to view all channels while only have red selected). I haven't found a way to do that in CS4. its almost making me want to go back to CS3 I use it so often!

REALLY wish adobe would stop messing with shortcut changes, or at least keep a consistent option for those of us who have been using the same commands for many versions. Why change them now? What does it serve? I can maybe see changing some when there is a new tool introduced, but why on earth would they change the command keys for changing channels? If Adobe is supposedly working on a consistent interface, they are kind of failing at it by doing this!
