My bad ...

I could've sworn I've done this from the layer pallet before - but you're right, only seems to work by dragging layers from the image area. (which is dumb)

In that case, if you absolutely need to do this via layer icons, I think the most efficient solution would be to use the image tile feature. Dragging from the layers pallet DOES work with that method. :)

It is very slow to tile the images. Hopefully Adobe will fix it.. this is a real slowdown

Thanks

It shouldn't be slow.

I don't know how many Tabs you have in use, but going to the Arrange button in the Applications Bar; and choosing the number of tiles and the arrangement that you want (by double-clicking on the one of the selections in the drop-down menu): should be instantaneous.

This seems to work most efficiently if you use the Application Frame.

By slow I mean it is an extra step. A step I don't want to do because, it should of been implemented in first place – the same way it is in Illustrator CS4.

I have tried the restart and patch to no avail.

Should I be posting the logs here? They are very long.

You did it all wrong in the first place. The installer also forgot to tell you to quit the bridge and safari or other browsers.

Trash the photoshop settings folder in your users preferences, but first quit Photoshop.

The download the update from any adobe in the suites application. Then quit all applications
you don't need an application running when you are updating another application just not necessary.

Then after all applications are closed run the updater you do not have to quit the updater that and the finder you can leave alone.

you will probably be alright now.

Otherwise try it from a different user account.

Thanks Anshum, I just sent it.

Wade, I just tried trashing the settings and keeping everything closed and that failed too.
I hadn't set another User as an administrator, so I couldn't update Photoshop, but I will wait on this.

Well you clearly started all wrong you should keep in mind for future installs there is really no reason to run other applications when you run a n updater.

The other things you should be aware of are things like haxies and third party plug ins.

I suspect you have something installed that is conflicting or perhaps a faulty connection somewhere.

Thanks Wade, I'll keep this in mind. Generally speaking though, installers tell you to close all applications before continuing installation. This one said to close Photoshop, which I did.

Linns,

Unless instructions to the contrary are provided, when updating any app, it is a good idea to quit all applications first.

Interestingly, with this update (when I deliberately used the Help window/ Update from Bridge so that I could test the CS4 Updater), the Updater gave no instructions to quit from other Applications (including the web Browser) — although I had of course already quit from both InDesign and Photoshop anyway.

It is speedy I just installed and except for the fact that I can't restart my Mac or launch any other applications and lost most of my archive data and images and it fried my flash cards and my iPod will not play music after I disconnected it from the Mac and I have been attack by at least a half dozen hackers through various security leaks and they have gone an spent over a $100,00 on my credit cards and emptied my bank accounts, it seems to be working fine and as Phil wrote it works really fast as all of the above happened in the last five minutes.

Hey, but there is always a price for progress.

There's also a price to be paid for being a super-early adopter who installs stuff without taking proper precautions, and without being prepared for disaster.

Then, there are some of us who wait, and read user reports and info from reliable sources about how to mitigate disaster, how to fix problems, and/or how to avoid problems altogether.

Have at it, my sweet, sweet herd of personal Beta testers!

Hello all,

have 2 Mac OS X Tiger Machines running Creative Suite 3 Premium that are having different issues:

1. one of them will run fine for a while then reach a point of what i call saturation, wher it will not take any inputs. the only way to rid the issue is to restart the machine, but after a while it will do it again. Would reseting the Preferences in PS help???

2. the other machine that is acting up does not all the use of shapes anymore.

these may be cases what i need to wipe the machine and start fresh, but any help/advice would be very appreciated!

Thanks,
brad

I have not used one yet, but the new 17" MBP should provide a truly excellent mobile graphics platform. What I like about it rather than the 15" MBP:

• More screen real estate, a very big deal when in the field and no external display is connected.

• Much higher pixel count, a very big deal when in the field and no external display is connected.

• Available matte display, a very big deal (to many graphics pros) when in the field and no external display is connected. Note however that I not have actually seen the new 17" MBP because it just recently started shipping.

• Faster; the added size and easier heat dissipation of the 17" apparently allow Apple to make less engineering compromises.

• Twice the available RAM, a very big deal moving forward as app vendors evolve apps to better utilize available cheap RAM, OS 10.6 and boxes with more RAM access. Under OS X Photoshop (and probably Aperture as well) can already take advantage of up to 32 GB installed RAM, maybe more.

• Longer battery life is alleged by Apple and by the first users who have received the new 17" MBPs, which matters not to me but some folks care.

• After years of using 15" and smaller, starting with the Duo, I currently use a 2.33 GHz 17" and far prefer the larger size. :)

• All the above benefits and it only weighs 1.1 pound more than the 15" MBP.

IMO a carefully set up external hard drive configuration will be necessary when functioning as a desktop box replacement.

As you noted the cost of maximizing RAM in the new MBP unfortunately is still exorbitant, but that price is already falling. Just watch OWC prices and wait a bit to max out the RAM.

Jay,

AFAIK that is standard Photoshop behavior. Just checked in CS4 and that's what happens. In print reproduction, fractions of a percent should not make any noticeable difference. You'll get far more variation during the press run.

I have been using PS for a few months and have a few books. Right now I have:
"Always" set for Max Compatibility, so that I can see the image in Expression Media.
"Always" set for Append File Extension.
I was looking for some information concerning the File Saving options, specifically the Image Previews: Icon, Thumbnails, Full Size etc.
When and why I would want any of them saved and what would be optimal settings for this preference, either for size or functionality.
Thanks again

If I select a single character in a line of text, I can zoom to 1200% and the character will still appear to be selected.

Go above 1280%, and the visual indication that the character is selected turns off although the character actually remains selected (which I can verify if I then zoom in to the full 3200% and change the text color — only the selected character will change color).

If you open a New Window that is less zoomed in, you will also see the Cursor and the selected character
