Hi John. Thanks for the post. Actually though, when the color settings are out of sync the top right segment of the register mark "pie" juts out and the "unsyncronized" info comes up. What I'm referring to is that, at random times, there is no color register mark at the top left of the color settings dialog window and in its place is just a gray circle (almost like a talk balloon in the comics) and there is a black exclamation point in it. Usually, on by system everythng displays correctly with the color register mark that is intact when color settings are in sync and disjointed if they are out of sync, but I don't know what causes this other thing.

Thanks.

Gordon

Mylenia,

Both ATI and NVidia have provided specific updated drivers for CS4, so
installing those would be the logical thing to do.

I am unaware of any ATI drivers that were issued specific to CS4. If you or anyone else has a link, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Joe - What motherboard and graphics card do you have installed?

John – That is not a "Guide" that's a list of cards that will work with CS4 using the latest drivers, and the latest windows updates using the default card and windows settings.

It would have been nice if it were that simple, but the truth is that most of the cards people have problems with are actually on that list.

Now whether they have "default" settings elsewhere is of course another matter, which is why I suggested trying with a completely fresh Windows install.

Well, this morning I was working in CS4 (with the old 8.10 Catalyst driver package installed). Had two small files open (maybe 6MB each). CS4 locked up and wouldn't respond. Couldn't use Ctrl+Alt+Delete or the Start button, so had to use the Reset button on my computer case.

I'm going back to CS3 until these issues get resolved, if they get resolved. I've spent far too much time on this already and just can't afford to spend more. My 30 days of Hell return eligibility have expired, so I guess I'm stuck with this bag-o-bugs.

Good luck, amigos.

I have always used the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+~ to get luminosity selection. It always worked in Photoshop CS3 and still does on my computer, but when I try it in CS4 nothing happens and it doesn't work. Do I have a preference or setting wrong? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Matthew Kraus

Ctrl+Alt+~

Don't know about that, but ctrl + RGB channel (in the channels panel) works for me.

I think they moved some of the shortcuts around.

J,
What Matthew needs is not to display that channel, but to load as selection.

Craig, you seem to have your terminology confused.

You can upgrade to CS4 from CS3 for $199. There have been no updates to CS4 as of yet.

If I had it to do over, I'd put off upgrading to CS4 until they've fixed the bugs that many on this forum are experiencing. You might want to consider doing the same.

The History brush refers to states in the History panel. When you close the file those states are lost.

By default it goes to the first snapshot (top of the History panel).

Ok, I figured it out....

It is not the history brush that I am supposed to use, it is the paint brush.
The important part is that I need to ensure to click the white panel within the layer and NOT the picture within the layer. Now, the black removes the layer and the white will add it back.

Originally when the paint brush was select it would only paint white or black but that was due to the image within the layer being selected as opposed to the white box within the layer.

Frequently when I use the red eye correction tool in Photoshop CS3, rather than correct the red eye it "splashes" black all over the eye and face, making the face look "ghoulish". Is there a technique to this process beyond just putting the crosshair over the red eye and clicking. Need help and advice...thanks.

I never use that tool. see the FAQ

ans 2 usually works better for me than asn 1 but ans 1 is a quick and easy way to do it.

Howard I don't think Rilla understands what this thread is about.

Back to the topic. I have a feeling that the brains in marketing figure that if you have the extended version that there would be no way anyone would want to go back to the standard version. Maybe you should post a comment at john Nacks blog and give him some input and ask him when Adobe will be changing their policy.

Howard – If you buy the CS4 non-extended version of the software, the installer may or may not see that you have a valid upgrade (CS3 ext to CS4 non-ext).
If that is the case then call adobe tech support and ask for an unlocking.
If CS4 does not recognize your previous versions install it as a trial. After the install PS will prompt you to enter a serial, at the bottom of that window you should see something about other options. When you click on that, choose the over the phone option and call TS.
TS will decode the serials (Verify their valid), they will then enter both serials and the code that you supply them and they will give you a response code to "unlock" your software so you can use it.

I think the main question is, "is it legal"? so far the answer from customer service is a resounding "NO" even though jack nack said that they would be adjusting the marketing to make it legal...

is it possible to unlock it? of course. one can even get versions that are pre-unlocked, if one doesn't feel conflicted, especially if you've paid for it anyway. i think the real question is when is it going to become adobe policy?

Hi,
maybe photoshop uses the 5200 rather then the 8800. I had the problem that my secondary graphic adapter was recognized by PS as primary ( see here: <http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b7022d/15> ).
Solution was to swap them physically but this caused some other problems in other applications.

Regards,

malojo
