I do, a Wacom Tablet. But I didn't experience this issue with CS2 (we skipped over CS3)? Is this a new "feature" of CS4?

Susan,

Have you checked for an updated driver from Wacom? Around the release of new versions of PS, they usually have some new ones, that better utilize the features (the REAL ones) in PS.

Also, you should have complete access to your Wacom controls (Control Panel>Wacom) and I'd check to see that nothing has been changed, or reconfigured.

I do not have CS4, but there also might be tablet controls in Preferences?

Last, though you have checked your Brush settings, you might want to look at everything there very closely. I had a similar sounding issue when one aspect of Brush Dynamics was reset. Unfortunately, that was so very long ago, and I do not recall the exact setting that messed things up.

Good luck,

Hunt

how many layers?

are you cloning on a visible layer?

do you have a selection made? that you are trying to clone outside of?

Also, make sure you didn't leave an unused pen sitting on the tablet (reporting zero pressure).

Well, I believe I solved the issue. I downloaded updated drivers for the monitor, which seems to have corrected the problem.

My PS Color Settings are set to - RGB: Adobe RGB (1998); CMYK: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2; Gray: Dot Gain 20%; and Spot: Dot Gain 20% and that my color management policies were set to - RGB: Convert to Working RGB; CMYK: Preserve Embedded Profiles; Gray: Preserve Embedded Profiles.

So my last question is, if all appears to be fine to my eye, are there any of the above settings you recommend that I change?

on the B&W layer
make a selection of the black or white areas (select color range)
then hit the mask icon at bottom of layer palette
you might want to inverse the selection first depending what you wanted to
mask off

Though probably an extra click, or two, you can create your Selection, as KatWoman suggests, then choose Selection>Save Selection and choose Layer Mask. This has the added advantage of allowing you to easily Invert.

As I use this method most often (old habits), I often forget about the icon, that Dave mentioned.

So ... I'm thinking a lot if my next pack of brushes will be as "free" as the others in my blog or if I will charge some price for a Collection of Resources, not sure yet, but brushes are allways the same: a shape and a couple of settings, that combination could be magic or ugly.

I try to run Photoshop.exe, but it doesn't respond. I get this error message. How to fix it? I have no idea where is a problem? I had no problems with it earlier.

These "hang" messages occur with many programs, and I believe even drivers,
not just Photoshop.
Like many things Microsoft they are not well documented and there are no
easy solutions. Try searching the Microsoft Knowlessthannothing Base and you
will see. Googling gets the same lack of answers.
I presume some running process is blocking a program from accessing the
memory it needs to operate but the potential causes for that are endless.
First see is you have a system restore point prior to when the problem
started and go back there to see if it solves the problem. Unfortunately
System Restore is a great idea but something of a crap shoot about whether
it will work or if there will be the system restore point you need when you
need it.
Right click on the photoshop executable and click on run as administrator
(in Vista)--east to try but not likely to work.
You can deactivate, uninstall, reboot and reinstall Photoshop but this often
does not solve the problem if it was not caused by corruption of your
Photoshop program files, which it probably was not.
Uninstall your current video drivers, reboot and reinstall the latest
updated drivers: it is astounding how many problems this cures in windows.
Turn of all un-necessary background programs, including antivirus programs
(unplug the network cable if you are paranoid) and see if that solves the
problem.
Scan for malware.
I presume you have contacted Adobe support: they are not as good as they
used to be, who is, but they probably don't have an answer for this one
anyway.

I'm waiting for the preparation guide. How long it takes for Adobe to release a prep guide since the exam is out?

I see two particular things in your pic that could be considered "artifacts":

- You have several sensor dust spots that show up in the sky. These should be cloned or healed out.
- You have pretty high edge sharpening applied to this image. What sharpening setting are you using in DPP? You need to be careful with DPP sharpening because it can be deceiving. Even a low amount of sharpening in DPP is the equivalent of fairly high USM sharpening in Photoshop. The difference is that DPP uses a threshold that applies the sharpening only to edges.

Regarding noise, I don't see much if any. In fact, it looks to me that a fair amount of noise reduction, possibly in DPP, has been applied that is smearing the detail to some extent. Check the noise reduction settings you are using in DPP. For an ISO 100 image, you should be able to get away with almost zero noise reduction unless you are having to push the exposure.

Finally, and please take this as constructive criticism, the composition of the image leaves a little bit to be desired. My first reaction was "this would be a fantastic image if it wasn't for those trees and buildings". I mention this because that may be playing an indirect role in the rejection - they may feel that the minor defects are enough to disqualify a less-than-compelling image. If you have the pixels and it meets their submission guidelines, I would suggest cropping the image to include only the mountains and the tops of the trees (without the buildings). That might help you along also.

Hope that helps.

Howie,

Just as a test, choose the Path of your Shape in the Paths Palette. Choose Stroke Path and choose Brush. What happens?

Though Chris might be correct, I'm leaning towards Ed's explanation. Maybe also tell us a bit more about the Layer that you have active.

Good luck,

I had the following run-up of problems on a vista (Siemens Fujitsu, 6 months old): except for one of the four none of the disks in the package could be read. I tried it on the system DVD reader/burner and on an external (Philips) DVD rdr/burner.

Looks pretty much the same as as top of the thread.

In an act of quiet desperation I stuck one of the DVD (Application 1) into my McMini - AND IT OPENED WITHOUT A HITCH.

Looks like there's DVD units and then again DVD units.

Pretty much the same symptoms as discussed all the ways from the top of the thread, I would say.

In an act of quiet desperation I stuck one of the DVD (Application 1) into my McMini - AND IT OPENED WITHOUT A HITCH.

Right now I am following the common-sense procedure of backing it all up on the network drive.

Moral: looks like there's DVD units and then again DVD units. Wonder at ADOBE's policies though. Could it be, that DVDs have been produced with some kind of green technology? This side of the tunnel there's not much green left, given the amount of (electrical and human) energy spent so far. Note I have yet to start to install.
