The ACR is limited but all you need.
The layers are there but do not support 16-bit editing.
Channels can be accessed via the correct techniques.
People will tell you that there is no layer mask in Elements, that
there are no channels, that you can't do channel mixing, and many
other things. I have a free tool set available on
http://hiddenelements.com that will let you access channels and layer
masks. Elements can do more than just about anyone will tell you --
you just do it differently.
