The "Websafe" colors were formulated at the time when many people were still using 256-color 8-bit monitors which is no longer the case so there is really little need to be concerned about sticking to Websafe Colors these days.

When the numbers people eventually take over a company from the tech founders,
kiss its sweet a-- good bye.

No argument there.

Numbers people and lawyers are not entrepreneurs.

I don't know what happened to Tektronix

There's <http://www.tek.com> for the company that currently makes test and measurement equipment. The company suffered from too many divisions; too many markets, and it spun off a number of them. For instance, their printer technology was acquired by Xerox, which still sells the "melted crayon" printers.

Kevin,

Rather than rant at you for not giving us details about your machine and video card specs ;), I'll just suggest that you turn off OpenGL in Preferences > Performance, re-launch Photoshop and see if your issue goes away. If it does, the graphic cards or its video driver might be involved.

BTW, is your laptop your only machine? Does it happen in other machines? (I could not reproduce the problem but I'm on a PPC box running Tiger 10.4.11.)

OMG, bad poster! so sorry. I'm running a late 2008 Macbook Pro 2.53GHz Core2 Duo, Nvidia 9600 M GPU w/ 512mb vram. Yes my MBP is my main computer. And it is the only Mac in the house. I'm running Leopard 10.5.6. Have all updates installed. I'll try turning off OpenGL to see if that fixes the issue.

Ok, I seem to have found the culprit. Under the GPU settings> advanced settings>Advanced drawing was checked. After unclicking that the transform issue is gone. Whew! That was driving me nuts! lol.

Thanks Ramon!

It sure will be nice when they (READ: hardware and software manufacturers in consort) get all (or a super-large majority) of the GPU issues sorted out.

The cake is still out in the rain on this issue.

Hello,

I have some duotones that are black and some added color. I want to find out what that color is.

Using the Eyedropper tool only tells me what color a pixel or the average of pixels in a set area is. But since the color of course has different tones throughout the photo I can't rely upon this.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Tom

I'm really happy this discussion is getting somewhere. Special thanks to Florian.

And that Chris (& Adobe) is finally seeing the light of what "premultiplied" really means. (Perhaps even luminiscent yellow light ;) )

I do however hope everyones understands that this definition of "premultiplied" applies to every format with an alpha channel, i.e. TGA's, etc. etc, i.e. 1,1,0,0 is a legal color in a TGA file as well (well, it'll probably be 255,255,0,0 but you get the idea).

/Z

Likewise.

Special thanks to Florian & Chris and their professional ability for being able to the point through the heat haze.

Now Chris, how do I get onto the beta?

Hello -

For some reasons, I add to "reveal all" my .PSD file.
But now how can I go back?

Thank you, have a nice day…

You can't directly - other than going back in history. If you know you are going to want to go back BEFORE you Reveal All - you can make an alpha channel filled with black. After the reveal all operation, this can still be loaded as a selection (command clicking on the channel) and then choosing Image/Crop.

"keep in mind that many of the people that have responded are not running Leopard so they are just repeating rumors they have heard on this forum." - that's not the case, I am running Leopard using CS4. Main issues are slightly carelessly put together compatability between the OS and the CS4 Application Frame, and windows. Otherwise everything is roughly Ok. There are some hard drive usage issues too, with Occasional crashes during heavy scratch activity - and these may be Leopard related issues. I use CS4 about 80% of the time.

Check your graphics card is compatible as Jim said, although you can still use CS4 very well with Open GL turned off if you need.

Howard - unfortunately if you are editing truly High Res files, the whole operation of curves is not as efficient as it used to be in CS3 and before. Here's some things that will help; Turn Open GL off, preferences/performance, and re-open the file. This will make moving the points less clunky. Also look at my F key Actions method which brings up the dialog boxes, its far and away the best solution, and will make you even more efficient.

Some people work so damn slowly, on crap quality files that they don't NOTICE these things. Just ignore them.

I've researched, combed through the preferences and can't find an answer to this: Is there a way to reduce the size of the folder (or any other) icons in Details mode? These things are so stupid-huge I can only see four of them at a time, stacked, and that's on a cinema display monitor at 1689x1050 resolution. Like... Windows 3.2 revisited.

Thanks

Yeah I stated that in my original post... If I remove the open file part of the action it stops the action and prompts me on what open then does nothing, that's why I had "Overide Action "Open" Commands" checked but it still uses that name even though I have it linked to pull the files from a folder.

Hello Mark. Sorry it took me so long to reply. It surely did work. I normally use the F key to toggle through the different view modes, but somewhere along the way, it must throw off the precision. Once I go through the three viewing modes, it resets the calibration. Many thanks!

Yes its an issue with some Graphics cards. Which card do you have?

Before you reply, be prepared for an onslaught of condescending, and imperious "NOT COMPATIBLE, shell out another $200 of your hard earned money you idiot" responses.

Hello all.

Recently I was given a job to extract people from green screen shots. There are forty different photos, thus I'm trying to stream line this process. I'm not having much luck though. I've used the color range option, but the hair is the real problem because it leaves a greenish halo in the different strands.

I've also done a trick by switching to LAB color mode, duplicating the "a channel" & adjusting the levels until you achieve an extreme contrast & creating a mask that way. It's worked the best, but it still takes some time & there is still some green present.

My brother uses After Effects quite a bit because he's in video production. He too uses green screen, but it's so simple to pull in After Effects vs. Photoshop. Does anyone know of any other tricks or tips to really pull the green behind someone. Unfortunately, the green screen doesn't appear to be too evenly lit, so there are different shades of green throughout. The real problem is the hair. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks!

PD,

What happens when you expand the range of "green" colors selected?

Also, there are several standalone and plug-in software programs that can do hair well. OnOne Software's Mask Pro 4.1 and Tiffen Dfx software come to mind.
