Who did you back in the election? The president-elect is a far left
liberal except for things like gay rights and gay marriage, the
latter of which he opposes. I have to guffaw at the fact that the
loons are protesting violently in some mistaken view that Obama
will somehow back them. As for Obama, he definitely deserves all he
is getting from the Far Left Loons of his own party and will had a
damn tough time managing what he campaigned on with what he really
believes with the political realities of not destroying his own
presidency in his first 100 days.

BTW, there is no glory is "taking responsibility for what you say"
if that only means to post your real name. I think people can
pretty much figure out what others on Usenet do or don't stand for
and screaming "coward!" is disingenuous at best and you come across
as not much more than a poltroon.

No, too bad for you. Because now it's clear that I can't take anything you
say seriously, if you believe that this isn't real life and that there are
no consequences to anything. You could be making up nonsense just to annoy
people, and you probably are. Goodbye.

All I see is a picture of some river, so are you talking about? As
for Obama at the White House, that is simply to laugh. We all know
the direction he would LIKE to take our country, but for now,
president-elect Barack Hussein Obama, why don't you START by
answering and publishing your own multiple page questionaire? For
examply, I am most interested in yours and your spouse's past
associations that might "be a conflict of interest or embarrasing".
Oh, you mean like Bill Ayers, Rashid Khalidi, Father Flueger, Rev.
Jeremiah Wright, James Cone, Louis Farrakhan, and quite a few
others?

you mean these promises, I see nothing overtly socialist there, do you ??
Taxes

. Give a tax break to 95% of Americans.

. Restore Clinton-era tax rates on top income earners.

. "If you make under $250,000, you will not see your taxes increase by a
single dime. Not your income taxes, not your payroll taxes, not your capital
gains taxes. Nothing."

. Dramatically simplify tax filings so that millions of Americans will be
able to do their taxes in less than five minutes.

. Give American businesses a $3,000 tax credit for every job they create in
the U.S.

. Eliminate capital gains taxes for small business and startup companies.

. Eliminate income taxes for seniors making under $50,000.

. Expand the child and dependent care tax credit.

. Expand the earned income tax credit.

. Create a universal mortgage credit.

. Create a small business health tax credit.

. Provide a $500 "make work pay" tax credit to small businesses.

. Provide a $1,000 emergency energy rebate to families.

Energy

. Spend $15 billion a year on renewable sources of energy.

. Eliminate oil imports from the Middle East in 10 years.

. Increase fuel economy standards by 4% a year.

. Weatherize 1 million homes annually.

. Ensure that 10% of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012.

Environment

. Create 5 million green jobs.

. Implement a cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

. Get 1 million plug-in hybrids on the road by 2015.

Labor

. Sign a fair pay restoration act, which would overturn the Supreme Court's
pay discrimination ruling.

. Sign into law an employee free choice act - aka card check - to make it
easier for unions to organize.

. Make employers offer seven paid sick days per year.

. Increase the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour by 2009.

National security

. Remove troops from Iraq by the summer of 2010.

. Cut spending on unproven missile defense systems.

. No more homeless veterans.

. Stop spending $10 billion a month in Iraq.

. Finish the fight against Osama bin Laden and the al-Qaida terrorists.

Social Security

. Work in a "bipartisan way to preserve Social Security for future
generations."

. Impose a Social Security payroll tax on incomes above $250,000.

. Match 50% of retirement savings up to $1,000 for families earning less
than $75,000.

Education

. Demand higher standards and more accountability from our teachers.

Spending

. Go through the budget, line by line, ending programs we don't need and
making the ones we do need work better and cost less.

. Slash earmarks.

Health care

. Lower health care costs for the typical family by $2,500 a year.

. Let the uninsured get the same kind of health insurance that members of
Congress get.

. Stop insurance companies from discriminating against those who are sick
and need care the most.

. Spend $10 billion over five years on health care information technology.

And while were throwing names around, how about convicted Watergate burglar
and domestic terrorist G. Gordon Liddy, or Keating who was convicted on over
70 felonies, and lets not mention that McCain is the only presidential
candidate to ever be censured by his party over ethical issues.

Anyway, enough politics in a photo group, Obama won, get used to it :-)

You are either a fool or haven't looked at this. I won't debate
nonsense like this until/unless you explain exactly how you give
a tax break to 40% of the people who pay ZERO taxes. It isn't a
tax cut, it is called welfare.

> . Restore Clinton-era tax rates on top income earners.

Yeah, real bright. So we'll go from the top 10% paying 90% of the
taxes BACK to the same group paying only 40% under Clinton? It is
quite easy to see you don't know what in Hell you're talking
about, you just quote stump speech talking points like all the
rest of the Far Left Loons.

> . "If you make under $250,000, you will not see your taxes

Simply NOT true. In fact, depending on HOW you earn your AGI
dollars, people as low as $42,000 will see a tax increase.
Source: barackobama.com if it has been redacted away by now.

> . Dramatically simplify tax filings so that millions of
> Americans will be able to do their taxes in less than five

Total horseshit. The IRS code is some 67,000 pages and I heard
NO-thing from the president-elect that answers this point.

> . Give American businesses a $3,000 tax credit for every job
> they create in the U.S.

This one is right, but where does the money come from? Oh, yeah,
from taxing the same businesses!

> . Eliminate capital gains taxes for small business and startup
> companies.

No! This is just what he SAID late in the campaign, it is NOT
what his actual tax plan, again on barackobama.com, said it would
be.

> . Eliminate income taxes for seniors making under $50,000.

Another late promise but one with no substance.

> . Expand the child and dependent care tax credit.
>

Why would you even want such a thing, even if it were possible?

Yeah, right after he enacts Socialized medicine worse than
Canada?

This one deserves some attention. What he actually said was this:
invest $150B over 10 years to put one million alternative fuel
vehicles on the road. Due the math, Oh Godless Wonder - this
works out to $150,000 per car! Nobody but a Loon would propose
such a thing!

> . Eliminate oil imports from the Middle East in 10 years.

Exactly how does he propose to do this? He is against domestic
drilling, against nuclear, against expanding the electrical grid
to promote wind and solar, for Ethanol subsidies and the
frightening idea of putting the coal companies out of business!
Again, his very words, friend.

> . Increase fuel economy standards by 4% a year.

No! This is already part of the current CAFE law which takes
effect in 2012. But, exactly what the Fuck does this have to do
with saving people taxes?

> . Weatherize 1 million homes annually.

Socialism. Who will pay for that, you, me, somebody?

> . Ensure that 10% of our electricity comes from renewable
> sources by 2012.

Simply not possible to the extent that it is ludicrous!

> Environment
>
> . Create 5 million green jobs.

Tell me how and I will quickly back off. Truth is, Obama made
absolutely ZERO specific proposals, just lots of campaign
promises that you have dutifully-but-brainlessly copied into your
post.

> . Implement a cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas
> emissions.

First, do you even know what this is? And, do you have any idea
what this actually costs?

> . Get 1 million plug-in hybrids on the road by 2015.

See comments above, the average cost is $150,000 EACH!
> Labor

> . Sign a fair pay restoration act, which would overturn the

What ruling?

> . Sign into law an employee free choice act - aka card check -

Yeah, another Socialist venture. What this does is guarantee the
very high wages that have made us UNcompetitive by taking away
the Bill of Rights guarantee to a private ballot. You are more
and more sounding not like an atheist loon, but the typical Far
Left Loon who has no idea on God's Green Earth what this nonsense
is even about much less how to pay for it.

I'm done talking to an idiot. Here's what I want you to do, NOW:
back up every one of these idiotic sound bites with a single
sentence articulating HOW this will be done and WHO will pay for
it. I will then be only too happy to kiss your ass.

Until then, please take a big gulp of a coffee cup known as Shut

Then you were NOT buying a brand name product. Like I said
they buy in volume very large volume, that's how they get the discount
on what they sell. Now sure some of there stuff is crap, but then
either I never heard of the company, or the company is know for making
crap stuff to begin with.

No need, since all one needs to look at is the X field for
abuse, since that is added by the server, and can't be changed by the
poster.

Go back and look at the headers "Mr. I Know What I'm Talking About."
More crow, or are you sufficiently full yet? Before I forget, the 4
abuse addresses listed above are from message headers that the P&S Name
Changing Troll has made recently to the newsgroup... Again, I repeat ALL
lines in the header can be changed... even that one.

Yes, but not the X-Fields since they are put in by the
servers.

No fantasy, he is no long spamming from AIOE. By cut off I

It's the X-Abuse field you got to use to complain. Many news
servers use giganews, but put there own name on it, and pay giganews.
So giganews is NOT responsible, it's the 3rd party news server. If
you don't believe me complain to giganews and they will correct your
clueless ass.

To those who are interested in this project...

Dave, in a Photoshop newsgroup, came up with an interesting solution.
http://images2.fotopic.net/?iid=yvnnxq&outx=600&noresize=1&nostamp=1

He changed the building in the background from white to yellow. This
doesn't repair the blown-out details, but it fools the eye because the
contrast between the main subject and the background is less stark.
You don't notice the blown-out area as much.

It's an interesting solution, and one I had not thought of. It's one
of those tricks that I'll keep in mind for some future project.

I might make that yellow a little more mustardy and soft, and I don't
care for the green version, but the real value of Dave's suggestion is
that it's the type of out-of-the-box thinking that we can file away
and try on other things.

In case anyone comments that the shade of yellow makes the building
too bright, consider that it's technique - not final results - that's
the lesson. Technique can be modified by the user and final results
can change.

(Dave listed the steps he used in alt.graphics.photoshop if anyone's
interested.)

Re-shoot. Get the right side of the histogram inside the box. Even if
the shot looks underexposed in the field, you'll be able to curve it at
home. Shoot raw to maximize you possibilities.

In photoshop CS3 you can mask on color and then fill. Not sure about
'junior' versions. The effect is not that great, but better than FFFFFF
in your shot.

A couple years ago I shot some black trains in Colorado. To bring out
the details in the trains I over exposed by about 2/3 of a stop.

and the clouds plain blotches.

As explained in other posts, the shot was taken in Savannah, Georgia.
I live in Orlando, Florida. Mapquest says that's over a 4 hour drive,
but Mapquest doesn't factor in restroom and meal stops.

As explained in other posts, the shot was taken with a Nikon P2
because I was too lazy to walk back to the car and get my D40 out of
the trunk. P2s don't shoot raw.

As explained in other posts, I use Photoshop v 7.0 and don't own CS3.

There was a case a year or two ago in a town in central Massachusetts. A
professional photographer had a little one-man shop in an old factory that had
been converted to a mall. His business was selling prints through galleries; I
don't think he did portraits, weddings, or any sort of paid event photography.
So he depended pretty much exclusively on his large stock of existing
photographs. One night the mall burned down, and the contents of his shop were
totally destroyed. As I recall, most of his work was digital, but he had no
backups of any kind. Sympathetic customers and gallery owners tried to gather
copies of his work to help him recover, but he was effectively wiped out. His
only option was to start over. I don't know whether he had insurance, but
coverage in such cases usually doesn't begin to match one's actual loss.

What's sad is that the whole thing was so totally unnecessary. Digital backups
are tedious and can be time consuming if you don't take the trouble to set up
an efficient workflow. But they're not difficult to do. And most individuals
don't need expensive off-site storage; a mile or two of physical separation
(accomplished by bringing your backup media home from work) covers 99.99% of
cases.

Nobody likes to blame the victim, and in this and the Digital RR case it's
easy to feel sorry for those who lost their pictures. But what ever were they
thinking, not to take reasonable precautions with so much at stake?

The whole idea of online storage and especially online applications is
to me a negation of the idea of the personal computer.

Before I had a personal computer, I had an account on my employer's
online interface, and could check out a terminal. Of course, all I
could work on was my work stuff, for which I had an account.

The whole idea of a personal computer was that it was MINE! I could do
what I wanted with it, no big company overwatching me.

Now, we seem to be going back to the old idea of timeshare accounts,
where your computer just becomes a terminal, though a smart terminal
rather than a dumb one.

If I lose files, it is MY fault. My backup stays on a shelf. Really
important family data I burn to dvds or cds and give copies to my kids.

Don't top post.

They need a 36x24 at 20 Mpix or more first. I don't suppose it occurs
to you that their DSLR market is Nikon lens owners?

It would be nice if they made an MF system, but it would take them a
long time to establish themselves. At least they would likely be less
costly than Hass and Leica. But v. Mamiya?

The more recent Hassy's use a Kodak sensor. (Not sure who the 'fab'
is). Not sure for Leaf and Phase one. (Dalsa?).

Why not? Somebody must be enthusiastic enough about it to show the
advantages.

That's quite irrelevant. The troll I mean.

Lol,... You need a course in reading comprehension. Again, the EVF
lag can't be due to the shutter because the shutter is not actively
doing anything during except when it snaps a picture. So yes, I do
know and I'm not just guessing.

I'm sure it has no impact for your practical purposes. That's because
you don't use a P&S for the same type of photography that many people
use a DSLR for. I.e., tracking and shooting fast changing motion like
sports.
