At least download the free trial and see how it runs on your system. Play with the settings see what happens. Sure beats buying something that won't work and having to upgrade your computer. Unless of course it is time for a upgrade and you need a good excuse.

You should get and install the latest video drivers (I know that this has been said MANY times before *snicker*.)
Then, after you download & install the trial, get the update to CS! it made a huge difference with my GForce 8 series card.

I always turn off auto updates, for Windows and everything else. I won't install/run any app that doesn't allow me to.

I am using CS3 and Lightroom 1.4 on a PC(4 gigs of ram).Over the past few days both CS3 and Lightroom are locking up...I have to do a hard re-start to get them working again. Then last night it appears that 75% of my brushes (CS3)disappeared...would appreciate any and all feedback on what may be the issue! I am in the final week of school and have my final images due next week so I really need to fix the problem!!! Do you think a system restore would help?

windows' "My Pictures" special folder, i would guess... you can move it from it's default location (C:\Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\My Picures) but it almost always leads to issues somewhere...

Where did you buy it and what's your definition of a lot of money?
Photoshop 7 is four versions out of date and isn't even eligible for
upgrade pricing.
I'd say your chances of having purchased a legitimate legal copy are
less than one percent. I hope you manage to beat the odds but we need
more information.

Try this:
Defrag your hard drive
Go into xp services and make sure windows installer is in auto
MSconfig: turnoff all starting software you don't want running
make sure any antivirus is off
Not sure if xp has windows defender but if so, turn it off

I would assume he made the image in 3d max and exported the map. You can re-texture or some people call it skinning. You change the color or add layers and such using photoshop. Some people make templates.

Thanks Gene,
Yes, that is a method I use too, opening PS 32 bit FIRST.
I wonder why, with all the potential compatibility problems with the 64 bit version (only 1 of my dozen+ plugins work with 64 bit), would Adobe FORCE the 64 bit version on you and make it the default Photoshop? It makes no kind of sense!
Thanks for the ctrl-O option. I guess that's something for now.

It would be nice for these plugin companies to re-write their plugins to 64 bit. :)

Vista or XP?
check services and turn windows installer to auto
Turn off anti-virus
Turn off windows defender
Turn off any running programs you don't need in msconfig.
Put the folder on windows desktop and run setup program as administrator.
Make sure you install at the default location as the software seems to be happy there.
Depending on how far you got you may have to run the CS4 cleaner and windows uninstaller. There is a section in the help area on what to download and how to do it.
There is a "how to set up" in the help area too.

Activation is intended more towards annoying loyal customers since anyone can easily crack it.
