Then it is your ISP service which is slow because Safari 4 is instantaneous for me but I do have a fast Cable connection.

Lundy has problems with everything.

Reading his posts makes me chuckle.

Its ripping fast.

It is for me too. And also much less crash-prone.

Can't say I had any crashing problems with the old Safari.

Me neither - and the beta is just as stable.

I have 5 mbps and it tests perfectly. This slowness began with the first 3 beta, and has continued through all versions and the 4 beta.
Nothing else is running. I have a 1.3 ghz processor and 1.5gB RAM which is kept clear. Emptying cache and clearing history do not help.
Firefox is not slow. My g4 mini does the same thing and has the same history.

This isn't really a problem, Buko, it's just stupid and many many people complain about Slowfari.
It's probably generic to the g4 era. My last problem was also g4 related. I installed a 500 gB HD only to find out that g4s are limited to 128 per partition, so now I have 4 parts on it.

Thanks for the correction. This matter was easily resolved but saving files with maximized compatability.

Last week I sent off some test charts to have my R1800 printer profiled. The profiles came back with a warning though that there may be a problem with my inks since they were much darker and had significantly less gamut than was typical for the R1800. The prints I tried were awful, so today I've spent about 8 hours trying to get to the bottom of this problem including about 30 minutes spent on the phone to the US speaking with Inkjetfly who make my CIS and found out what is wrong.

We went through all my settings and verified that everything was correct but prints were still coming out horribly dark with all colour management switched off. Eventually we tried a print through Apple's Preview and that was spot on with all colour management turned off.

I have now installed CS3 and with the same settings the print outs are significantly closer to the original chart, much like Preview. Despite turning off all colour management there appears to be an issue between the print engine in CS4 and the Epson driver with OS X which is causing very dark prints. For whatever reason the results are massively out in CS4 with the R1800. Perhaps other printers are also effected.

I wrote and told nativedigital who did the profiles purely for the sake of letting them know what I have discovered and to their credit, they have said that if I send them new test charts they will do the profiles again for free. This is a problem though that simply shouldn't exist.

I should add that I am using 10.5.6 and the latest 6.23 Epson driver. CS4 has all recent updates as well.

Ashley:

Have you set your Printer as your Default Printer?

Thanks Ann, I've selected it several times now as default having seen this suggestion earlier but its made no difference here. Over the last few days I've tried various Epson drivers and even the Guten driver to try and sort this out, removing the Epson folder from the printer library with every new attempt and its been a real nightmare. I must have 30 sheets of expensive Hahnemuhle paper strewn across my office here and all of them are dark because of this problem.

CS3 works and now it looks like I will have to go back to CS3 for printing even when the profile is successfully done but I really think its wrong when we are left like beta testers to discover these problems. Luckily I have CS3 here, so I am able to find this work around for the time being but somebody who has just purchased CS4 and doesn't have any earlier versions would be well and truly stuck.

Sorry to hear you're experiencing the problem, Ashley. My prints are coming out spot on, but then I'm on Tiger 10.4.11.

You know there are many points I appreciate about Leopard but in all honesty it has never as reliable and stable as Tiger. To me the upcoming Snow Leopard version which is supposed to add few features but concentrate on stability and getting rid of bugs is an admission that they never got Leopard right. Perhaps Apple spent too much time on their iPods.

If CS4 ran in Panther, I'd revert to 10.3.9 in a heartbeat. It has all the features I want from the OS.

Hello Everyone,
I just discovered a huge bug in ps cs4.
I didn't find anything about that on google, so I wonder if anyone has noticed it.
A part from the missing feature which allowed every previous version of ps to remember, working with two monitors, where you prefer to open new files, the huge problem is that now, when you open a file, it is forced to show first on the main monitor (in my case, the non-calibrated one), and when you drag it to the the monitor where you work, the colors mutes. But they don't mute accordingly to the profile of the second monitor, they shift inconsistently, in the sense that if you try to change the profile of the main monitor, every change produces different results when you drag the file to the second monitor (which has always the same profile).

I think that it is not a bug, it is a disaster!

Hope that adobe would fix this, otherwise cs4 is useless.

I calibrate both of my monitors, you should too. I don't have any muting going on.

Yes, but no device is completely equal to another, you need to have an "absolute" reference (one monitor)... the majority of people I think use just one monitor to control colors.

I've just tried to drag the opened file to the calibrated monitor: discovering that changing the profile of the uncalibrated one will affect the file *even* if it's on the other monitor! That's unacceptable.

Just reinstalled CS3: none of these problems there.

I cannot reproduce your problem at all, Mary. It has to be something specific to your system.

I do calibrate and profile both of my monitors, regularly and often.

Ramn, I'm on a powermac g5, with an eizo colorgraphic as "working" monitor and a cheap old samsung as "palettes/generalapps/main" monitor.
I like to keep the eizo as "second" monitor because when I go full screen mode, there is no dock/bar around.

I'm considering to upgrade the old samsung, but by now I can't. And unfortunately it's not very prone to be calibrated accurately. ^_^

Anyway, the point is that if the user, like me, prefer to use the secondary monitor as the "work on" one, the calibration settings on the main monitor will affect the image, even if the image lies on the other monitor.

This can be verified by opening the system settings and clicking on some other monitor profile (try general sRGB or adobeRGB).

I understand that is it possible to calibrate correctly both monitors, but what if, for any reason, the user can't?

I tried to switch the monitors' order (making the eizo the main one, with the dock on it, to better understanding), but the situation gets ever stranger, so I'm concentrating on the behaviour of my usual configuration.

What makes me a little upset is that cs3 has none of these issues... but I was liking cs4 very much (new features, better performances)!

Going to: Source Images>Folder>Choose... when choosing my folder all pix are grayed out so I cannot import them. This happens to all pix. I'm using a MacBook Pro.
Thank you....

Try choosing the Folder, rather than individual files. (Just a guess.)

turning Version Cue off. That didn't help either

There are several places where Version Cue can be enabled, in Photoshop (by the way it's Photoshop, not PhotoShop) and in Bridge. Check all your preferences in both applications.

From Adobe Help Viewer, Enable Version Cue File Management:

"If you disable Version Cue file management in one Creative Suite component, you disable it in all other Version Cue-enabled Creative Suite components, except Acrobat, Flash, and Bridge. If you disable Version Cue file management in Bridge, you disable it in all Version Cue-enabled Creative Suite components, except Acrobat and Flash."

Version Cue is turned off in all my CS3 apps. No change.
