Your favicon shows up as a little sunflower just where it should in Firefox
on Windows Vista. It also displays okay in IE8 Beta. I do exactly the same
thing on my site.

What you did on your site is correct and it works:

rel="icon"href="http://www.michelesportfolio.net/images/sunflwfavicon.ico">
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="sunflwfavicon.ico">
