There are some frames installed with CS4 in the Actions panel.

You have to load them from the little drop-down menu in the corner of the panel.

Since your actions are appended to your default user action set, indeed they will disappear into nothingness if you just reset them, so I'd be wary to do that. As for your issue with sorting them - button mode? Do actions reference other actions? All fixed up with shortcuts? Might hinge on some of that.

Please provide info about the operating system and its language settings. This strikes me as a more generic issue with handling OpenType due to incorrect region settings. Also check Cleartype settings and the default system font size (in your graphics card settings). It has been known to collide with Adobe tools... Last, of course make sure you are running all the latest updates and do not intermingle legacy Adobe software with newer programs. Generic components such as the PDF libraries may not like it and expose weird side effects.

Thanks for the response... as I said in my OP I'm using Windows Vista 64 bit. And the language setting is English (US).

Again, as I mentioned in my OP the problem exist in ALL types of fonts: TT OT and T1. So I dont' see how it's an OT only issue.

I'm running the latest updates of CS3 and I do not have any old versions of programs installed.

I've checked my graphics card (ATI - HD3450) but find no settings at all for Cleartype in the ATI setup program or the standard Vista settings.

Any other ideas?

No idea if this is connected, but the timing is odd:

Immediately after downloading and unzipping I got a virus alert from Avast. Something called Win32:Vitro, residing in system32/drivers.

Is this a false positive? Checking on the 'net, I see some people linking it to Flash Player.

I haven't run the 11.0.1.exe yet. This is on my Vista32 laptop; haven't checked the 64 desktop.

FA,

I'd right click on the downloaded zip file and scan it. Come to think of it, that's what I always do!

Yes, but I trust Adobe... 8)

Anyway, I moved the "infected" file to the vault - and it shot my graphics driver to h*ll. Had to completely reinstall it.

So I'd say it's a false positive, yes.

I ran the updater from within PS and it went through no problem.

It has certainly fixed the brush lag. There is still a noticeable lag in the text tool, though

Also ran the update without hitch via the updater from within PS. I have to add though that it would have been nice had Adobe actually stated what performance issues had been fixed instead of just this - " A number of issues that could cause slow performance have been addressed" - as it might have been of some assistance to those who have been attempting updating every known driver known to mankind in an attempt to get to the root of their problems.

I installed the updater. Photoshop seems a little zippier on first open and the text tool had a minor lag before (I'm a touch typist) and there does not seem to be one at all. 3D is running 'absolutely fabo', although I had not been experiencing any problems in that area.

Though I haven't tested everything thoroughly, the update made a huge difference in brush speed, especially on 3D objects. Things appear to be faster. I can finally start using the program it seems, Thanks!

Sorry, John. If it's new enough to be shrink-wrapped, it's probably made in China; and we know that they don't sell anything that costs over $6 (hence The Dollar Store, all coffee mugs, etc.).

I read in the manual that columns can be created in a PS document (I have PS CS2). I've followed the instuctions to the letter i.e. choose Edit > Preferences > Units & Rulers, then enter values for width and gutter, but ..... I see nothing! What's happened? I've got the guides turned on, but where are the columns? I think this feature could be usefull.

Do you have a text box created? There is no default text box in Photoshop, so you have to create one (dragging out a rectangle with the text tool).

OK. This is my first post here and I don't use forums regularly so if I breach etiquette it's unintentional. Secondly, I've been all over this forum looking for answers to these questions. I've tried every suggestion that was relevant and have also tried my own methods. I even tried tackling "CS4 is a disaster," but with 759 posts, I didn't read all of them.

My computer was Frankensteined but these are the parts:

Motherboard: Gigabyte S-series GA-MA69G-S3H
Graphics: Sapphire HD 2900XT
Sound: E-Mu 0404
Processor: AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual-Core
Ram: 2 GB
Speed: 2.61 GHZ

The problem is, even after updating CS4 to version 11.0.1, the brush is still slow. Simple bushes work normally but a lot of my custom brushes are slow. I was able to fix the choppy issue with the hand tool by switching on the "Open GL Drawing" option in "preferences." Now I can man handle a picture without any trouble at all. Although, once I start using a fancy brush, things slow down to a crawl again. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Another problem I have is with the layout. When I say layout I don't mean how windows are arranged; I mean the way Photoshop CS4 looks. I despise it. Plus I get this annoying gray line that cuts across my menu at the top of the screen. Is there a way to change the layout to the way it was in CS3? That was beautiful and I miss it.

All help is appreciated.

Michael: I can see RAM being one issue and the other would be hard drive space. How many drives do you have and what is their status?

I confirm, this is work in Vista x64
----------------------------------

1. Download zip at: <http://www.savefile.com/downloadmax/1829285> and unpack it.

2. Go to this site and read what to do (yes, just follow the 32bit solution!) There is a list (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) that explanes how to do it.

<http://www.sitepoint.com/>... ...ase-of-the-disappearing-thumbnails-the-sequel
3. Now, for vista 64 bit users:
Create a shortcut on your desktop and name it as "windows explorer (32 bit)"
a) Right click on desktop
b) click on >New> Shortcut
c) type in the path without quotes "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\explorer.exe /separate"

Open the shortcut, browse to your psd file and bingo you see the .psd tumbs!
PS. Be sure to first install the dll + reg files as mentioned in step 2!!!

On two particular computers, nothing in CS3 or elements 5 works unless i do it twice in a row -- e.g., to use a tool, i need to double click with it or it just won't modify the image at all (therefore any tool that requires dragging is practically impossible to use) and the only way i can make a new image is by doing [ctrl+N][enter] twice quickly. Any idea what would be causing this?

I have original watercolors that I have scanned but need to edit and work with in InDesign. I am getting a gray shadow or hue in the "white" areas between the color. I've tried everything I can think of to remove the gray cast but it seems to be messing with the original color and hue. I've tried scanning at 2400, messing with the contrast, shadow and highlights, curves etc, after 3 days nothing seems to work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Am trying to clear up space on my laptop and in doing so searched for a way to remove Bridge as this is one application that I don't use at all on that machine. However, Bridge doesn't appear at all in the Add/Remove programmes list (Windows XP2 Pro) which has thrown me somewhat. I then attempted to remove CS3 hoping that Bridge would appear in an options list which of course it doesn't :-( so had to back track from there as well. Has anyone got any suggestions please?
