all my documents and animations open fine. it's just this one project which i find strange =/

hmm, I'm not sure. I just save it as a photoshop document to the computer and external hard drive.
so i haven't exported it to any .mov files as i was only halfway done.

I haven't installed any new programs~ The only updates I get are the automatic ones.

I have come across a few people saying that if they set the printer in question to the default printer that it cured the double profiling issue. For some installations you need to use the CUPS interface to do this. <http://127.0.0.1:631/printers>

I tried this with the Epson 9600 and it did not work for me but may work for others.

When I bought my G3Mac (OS 8.6) I also bought Photoshop 5.5 upgrade (which included ImageReady).
ImageReady however has disappeared from my system for some reason and try as I might to reload it from the original CD, I keep getting an error message which says that "this is not a valid Adobe serial number", yet it's the same number which comes with the CD slipcover!
Is it possible to get around this? I would really appreciate a response from a Mac pro as I am out of my depth when it comes to technical problems.
Many thanks,
Regards,
Norman.

Norman,

Where did you buy that upgrade CD?

Call Adobe Customer Service (not tech support) to find out why you get that error message. Use the Contact link at the top of this page.

Dear All, thank you for your replies. Having listened to what everyone has said I decided to have an open mind and do a re-install of CS4, running Disk Utility before the installation. Disk Utility revealed a minor problem with the Volume Header which it repaired, (this problem with the Volume Header had not shown up in January.) I then installed CS4 and ran Disk Utility a further time just to make sure, (no problems reported.)
Saving for Web Devices now has no problems.
Thank you again.

Try this:

1. Open a image with one and only background layer.
2. Duplicate this layer.
3. Go to the duplicated layer.
4. Hold down SHIFT and doubleclick on the image with the cursor tool.

This will crash photoshop CS4 with latest update. I think CS4 is released to early.

What in the heck is the "cursor tool"? (text tool?)

What's the purpose of double-clicking on the image with any tool, let alone the invoking the shift key? Is this a KB shortcut of some kind?

Regardless, following your instructions using various tools result in no crash for me.

Joakim,

Something is wrong with your setup.

I cannot replicate the issue. All that happens is that the Layer Style dialog box comes up, nice and smoothly. :D

What kind of routine maintenance do you perform on your machine?

What specific troubleshooting steps have you taken so far? Have you Repaired Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility? Trashed preferences? Have you run Disk Warrior?

How much total installed RAM? What % of available memory is Photoshop allowed to use (in Preferences)? How much total available hard disk do you have left, both in absolute terms and as a % of the size of the hard drive?

Is your machine on 24/7 (and not sleeping during the night) so that the Cron Scripts can run in the wee hours as intended by Apple? If not, do you run said Cron Scripts manually?

A lot more details are needed before we can help.

Buko, "Basic OSX maintenance" #, 16 Aug 2005 6:19 am </webx?50@@.3bbbf896>">CLICK HERE for an explanation of Repairing Permissions and basic routine maintenance.

Repairing Permissions after the fact (i. e. not immediately before and after an install) may NOT help.

Neil, are you saying that our Macs are threatened, even if we do not offer an administrative password to malware?

How do we know what is an unknown or untrusted source? That is the entire internet. Should we even trust a major company that allowed this vulnerability?

Since only 7, 8 and 9 are being patched, do those of us using Acrobat 6 or earlier need to buy an upgrade and/or do we need to buy AV software?

Jim,

I provided the best reliable information I could find last night.

Symantec also acknowledges the problem. Adobe says "all platforms" are affected, which would include Macs. Adobe does not say "Windows only" as it would if Macs were immune.

AFAIK, versions 9, 8, and 7 of Reader or Acrobat (including Pro and Extended) are vulnerable, and will remain so until March 11 or March 18 (depending upon version). Disabling JavaScript offers only partial protection. The latest antivirus software updates should address the issue -- but I recommend verifying that with your antivirus software developer.

How do we know what is an unknown or untrusted source?

My question, as well.

Neil

Neil,

Unknown is what you don't know; untrusted includes the former, plus sites that you know to be harmful to your machine.

But you knew that, of course. :| (Stay away from pornography.)

What I've read on the issue so far suggests that both platforms are subject to the crash but, as far as this "vulnerability" being exploited, there's so far nothing to suggest that Macs are as exposed as Windows boxes.

I'll just stick to known and trusted sources of PDFs for the time being. ;)

Ramón,

Agreed. Of course, even PDFs from "known" sources can be compromised. IIRC, about 10-12 years ago, Corel distributed their own boxed software with a Mac-only virus actually burned into the CDs by accident.

they want an extra 1200 bucks

Who is 'they'?

If RAM is cheaper elsewhere, buy it elsewhere. Apple always overcharges for RAM.

You can always buy a little RAM now and upgrade later... when prices drop a bit more ...and when you realize if you really need it.

This is a very reliable and Mac oriented supplier from whom many of us routinely buy RAM, drives, etc.:

I have been searching for answers to this and found nothing. Anyone know how to solve the FP 10 detection issue with the PS CS3 automated flash galleries. Right now it will not detect FP 10 and thinks there is no player. I know there are changes to detection methods but, I'm not much of a programmer and I've tried to implement SWFObject but, no luck. Any enlightenment would be appreciated. Save me re-creating please! I'd rather not have to upgrade my software.
