Thank you. I will try that. If it doesn't work, then I can rest in knowing I will get used to it eventually.

My monitor is calibrated weekly using a Pantone software/device.

I meant dark gray in comparison to what I am used to in my imagining workspace from before. I like a much lighter top (and workspace) so that the color/contrasts are predominately just my photo. Just not used to something competing with my eye, but again, I will get used to it.

Old habits die hard.

As far as the menu color, I figured it out. Duh on me! When taking a snapshot to show you what I meant by tan (see link below), I noticed it was the same tan as in my browser. I just needed to change the PC appearance settings as they governed the CS4 settings and the tan menus then disappeared.

They are now a very nice very light gray (233, 233, 233).

Again thanks.

WE,

Sorry for being in-precise. There is a threat in the pre-rerelease area for Beta 1 that has the specifics.

AN,

Been thinking on this...

Why would it get slower all of a sudden... For me, that is the strange part.

Have you tried SystemMechanic or RegisteryDefence to see if any corruption? Both are good tools for strange problems.

Hugh, could you provide a link to the pre-rerelease area for Beta 1? Can't seem to find it.

There is a stickey at the top of this forum for folks with performance issues.

Also, is your scratch on the same disk as page? Is this disk clean?
PS can slow-down if this gets fragges.

A couple of things about overclocking.

When you want to return to system specs, you ought to reset the BIOS to defaults (in BIOS, F9>Y, F10>Y. Better, if the mobo provides for it, use the CMOS jumper to reset to defaults. It is different in some BIOS schemes than simply F9,F10.

Second, depending on the degree of overclocking and the way you set it up, you may have a hardware problem. If you can, after resetting factory defaults, substitute a known, unclocked cpu and see if that changes anything. Overclocking does accelerate the aging process of a cpu (cpus do age in any case).

You might also check ram.

I have created a droplet that takes a pdf and converts it to .tif. I am using different sizes(width x height)of the pdf:s and I want the tif to hold the same size when it is converted. Is it possible to create a droplet that "recognize" the size and creates a tif with the same size? Or do I need to create a droplet for every different kind of size that I am going to use?

Here is my action list for my droplet:
1. Open the pdf, set to Trim box and CMYK.
2. Flatten image
3. Save as tif

I am new to PS. I am using PS CS4 Extended on a PC and trying to follow
along with some Kelby and Lynda training videos. One video shows the
author selecting a layer and then clicking on lock transparency.

When I open a new document, add a rectangle shape (which places it on
its own layer) then click the shape layer the lock transparency and lock
image pixels icons are NOT enabled.

Why not? What am I missing here?

I'm a GIMP user who would like to know how Photoshop
handles two specialized tasks, so I can cite the
Photoshop equivalent in a tutorial I'm writing.
The draft is at
http://cpacker.org/inauguration/details.html
The first task is when you have painted an area in the
picture the brightest red (that is, RGB = 255, 0, 0)
and then want to set the rest of the image to black.
I used GIMP's "Levels" tool to do that.

The second task is when you want to get the numerical
value of the average intensity in, say, the red
channel alone. GIMP's "Histogram" tool provides this.

Even better for the second task, can Photoshop
provide a count of the number of pixels in a given
channel equal or greater to a given intensity? GIMP
doesn't have this capability.

I have a logo that was designed for a white background. The colors and shape work well with white. I want to use it against a darker background and would like to surround it with a white border so that it will be readable against the darker background. I don't want to put a border around the rectagular box in which the logo is currently sitting. That box is already white. I want to lift it from the white box, surround it in white and then paste onto the darker background. Hope you aren't as confused as I am. Suggestions?

Do you have the logo in vector form?

(If not, that's an entirely separate discussion).
