Re: [Photoshop-Haven] Re: making background transparant

You could also try the magic eraser tool which is located under the regular eraser.  One click with the magic eraser should erase all of the white but the results really depend on the image in question.

Another and better option would be to make a selection of the main subject and the use the shortcut (Control + J) to place it on its own layer.  If you turn off the layers beneath the new layer you will see that the background is transparent.

Have you ever used the MAGIC WAND Tool or the QUICK SELECTION Tool to select just the white background? I am still using CS3... when you first open your image, double click on it's "background" layer in the Layer Palette to bring the image up on to a new/separate Layer - then once you select the white background, just hit the Delete Key and it should be gone. If you need more help, feel free to ping me off list.

I haven't found where you can turn the background invisible yet... I
was looking at selecting the background color, but clear and
transparant aren't choices... I also looked at opacity, thinking
maybe I could make the selected area invisible, but that wasn't an
option either. I know it is an easy method, but I just don't remember
how.
