Funny that, the copy of CS4 I have has no bugs.

Did you guys see ProArtist's latest reply before he trimmed it down?

The chill pill must've kicked in.

yeah it did kick in... I cut it down to be more concise and clear because for one, i had a typo "stay away from Cs3"... should have been "CS4" :)

And i wanted it to be clear that CS3 runs better on Vista than CS4. CS4 may run better on Vista than XP, but its ridiculously slower than CS3.

I trimmed my rant down.

On a side note...

Unsharpen Mask is a lot slower in CS4. CS3 is almost realtime, while CS4 is very slow.

You should further clarify it to say that these are your findings on
your system.

CS4 is faster than CS3 on mine.

Hi,
I started a thread about a problem I'm having with Photoshop CS4 <http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b71909/4>
but I was told that this thread here is dedicated to similar issues. So please check the link above and consider my input as part of this thread. I started to read the messages here starting from the last one backwards hoping to find some solution to the problem but it is a long thread with a lot of noise and after going through a number of messages worth several pages, I decided to ask if someone current to all information here can kindly summarize it for me by answering a basic question.
Is there some suggestions in this thread that were helpful to users with problems like mine or is this thread something that users are hoping to make Adobe take notice and fix this problem?
I appreciate your help.

James,
You do know your laptop has well documented GPU issues right? I "used" to own the same laptop as yours. I didn't not have any problems but there are a lot of GPU's that have failed or have rendering problems.

Nvidia has spoken on the issues and also you can find all sorts of information on the ASUS website forums.

Here is a website that you can, if you wish, to look into updating drivers on your own. Use at your own risk. Do a system restore first.
You already may know of this site.

Hope this helps you out.

David, Thanks for your reply. Laptopvideo2go is where I got the latest drivers from. I tried the latest and several others, none worked well. I also saw that the 8600m was supposed to have been tested with cs4. I never had any 'issues' with cs2, or any other programs, even with vista, on this laptop. The only issues were with cs4.

John
You're right, in my case it is NIK's software plug-ins. Apparently caused by the "Selective Tool", which when removed make the rest of NIK's plug-ins (although openable) inactive.
It's time to contact NIK
Thanks,
Michael

blend what used to be in the selection with the new pixels

That's what the tool does. Try the good old clone stamp instead.

The patch tool has its limitations. With practice it can be quite handy in certain situations. As Freeagent says, try the Clone Stamp where the Patch won't hack it. It's much improved in CS4 too!

Katelyn,

With the specs you wrote of your computer you mean the following?

Dell "Desktop" right?
Your CPU is a Intel Core 2 du0 processor at 2.53 GHZ?
4 gigs of Ram?
your video card is 512 MB of ram?

Or can anyone tell me how to modify the profile's gamma curve ? Because the spyder-calibrated-profile is considerably brighter than the prints of my photo-lab (even if one considers that paper has no backlight). I would use Adobe Gamma Loader for this, but it says it can't open the .icc file I created with my Spyder because "the selected profile is not a legal RGB display profile".

When drawing with the brush or the clone stamp brush now and then strokes are drawn at full pressure even though that is not the case. The next strokes are ok again for a while and then again... a few strokes like they there was no pen pressure. Very annoying when retouching masks.
I already installed the latest Wacom driver but no joy.
What else could I try?

My graphics card doesn't have OpenGL capacities so I don't think that's the problem or could it?

Also CS4 is much slower than CS3 in updating the screen. Related?

Tips welcome...

I am a long time user of Photoshop (since 2.5) but I think CS4 will be the first upgrade I will skip although I love the new adjustments and masks panels...

Windows XP Pro, 4 Gigs of Ram, Matrox Millenium card, plenty of sratch disk space.

I shoot photos with a Nikon D2X and my wife uses a Nikon D70. If I open a D70 raw file, and then go to camera calibration, the profiles available are for various standard profiles and D2X profiles. The D70 profiles do not show in the drop down list. All of the profiles have been downloaded, from Adobe, and installed.

If I open a D2X raw file, the standard and D2X profiles are shown in the dropdown box.

Have I missed something in the installation? Do the profiles have to be loaded somehow?

Thaks, Dennis Edson

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I am using PhotoShop CS4 and Camera Raw 5.2. The results are the same when run on either 64 bit or 32 bit systems.

Hi Dennis,

This is better asked in the CR forum:

<http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?13@@.3bb6a85c>

I believe the reason for seeing the D2X label is because that is the same label Nikon uses for all it's models. But it would be best to confirm over there.

cheers!

Again, if the plugin is not in the menu - the plugin is not installed correctly.

I don't know what patch you are talking about, because Photoshop dot releases won't alter plugin loading like that.

PLEASE check that the plugin is installed correctly - rerun the plugin installer if you have to, check the manual about when the plugin is enabled or not, etc.
