.. and you can see that in IrfanView. Image, Information, EXIF button.

It's stored in the image file's EXIF data, which some/most photo
editors and viewers can display. IrfanView displays it in the
field labeled "Total pictures".

It makes sense to have one 16 gig card. That should be enough for most
photo sessions, or several days of vacation. Leave it in the camera
until you are safely back at the computer.

Changing cards in the field risks dropping them or losing them. You
will mix them up. If you have several cards and more than one camera,
your file numbering will get screwed up.

And I agree you need an extra battery so you can keep shooting until
you get back to your charger.

FWIW - I have a backup battery. I also have three memory cards - less
capacity than 16gb. The three cards cost significantly less than the
battery. Typically, I don't need to change either. I'm in the habit of
going back to motel or travel trailer each evening and downloading the
day's photos.

That's the wrong question. The right question is: What's the matter with the
OS? After all, he was able to play all of that under Windows.

This betrays an attitude common among Linux fans: If something doesn't work,
it's the user's fault, not the operating system's fault. It's not a very
rational or productive attitude.

And that's another problem with Linux: an endless number of "distributions"
which are actually different operating systems. With no standards, there's no
hope of competing with Windows.

Quite so and these versions come and go. There is a web siteIf i can
find it that list the current top 100 Linux versions (there are
thousands)

Also Linux has a major security flaw.

Quite, I've been hearing for years now how Linux is going to take over,
that it's the best things since sliced bread etc. That's tosh, it has a
tiny market share, is not suitable for the average PC user and will
never be anything other than a minority OS for people who like tinkering
with their PCs. I have nothing against it, on the contrary it would
perhaps be good if it was widespread and got people away from MS
hegemony but let's be realistic, it just won't happen.

That depends on whether developers get their act together and
bring it to prime time. It has the potential to become a serious
alternative to Windows.

I don't have a server nor do the vast majority of computer users. Nor do
I have Unix, Aix (the other one) or any other exotic OS. Let peope who
use servers use waht they consider best, if that is Linux then fine by
me but that doesn't change a jot of the fac that Linux will never be
anything other than a minority OS.

Potental perhaps but then you probably could have said that about CP/M
(had GUIs really existed in those days). It may have the potential but
has been around for years now under ninety nine different versions and
has made really no dent at all in the OS market. It's all very nice to
dream but facts are better.

No, unless you get a remote slave trigger for it. Nikon's SB-800
and SB-900 have an SU-4 wireless flash mode that allows them to be
triggered by your camera's flash, even those from cameras used by
other photographers if you're not careful.

Thanks, so what kind of remote slave trigger would be good, inexpensive
and work with SB-600 and 990?

First, I wonder why Sally would think any of us would know why Adobe
don't get bent out of shape of possibly questionable dealings on Ebay.
Second, I got a version of Elements 6 OEM from Price Grabber. It
installs fine using the registration code supplied. However, I needed to
make a help call and Adobe claimed they couldn't find the key in their
system.

The mockups of the Olympus u4/3 camera have no EVF aside from the rear
screen:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0809/08092208olympus_micro_four_thirds.asp

I don't see what the problem is. If u4/3 is successful, I would
imagine they will come out with additional models, likely with EVF
eyepiece. Besides, Panasonic already has a couple models with an
"SLR-like" design with an eyepiece EVF and there is little reason
for Oly to start competing with them in the first iteration of their
"EVIL" cameras.

It is more likely that the sensor is outpacing the capabilities of the
glass and end user combined. Are the images still soft on a tripod and
taken in good light at the optimum f ratio for diffraction limited imaging?

Sharpness sells so a lot of the lower end cameras by default do some
fairly brutal in camera sharpening to add extra punch. The high end
cameras tend to record more accurately what the lens actually saw.

The search of ever larger numbers of pixels is running out of steam. If
the pixels are too small you get poor signal to noise (not that it will
stop the marketeers fooling Joe Public with their uber-megapixel race).
