[photoshop-beginners] New beginner needs help.

Hi everyone,
I am brand new at photoshop so I have a couple of beginner questions.

1. I have a bunch of objects that I want to open all on the same page in photoshop to re-arrange them all and create a project. Let's say they are all jpeg's and are all in different files. How do I get them all together on one page in photoshop? If I am not explaining this right, please let me know.

2. If I save an object that I created as a symbol, (say a flower) does it always stay in the symbol catagory as a flower symbol or does it disappear when I close photoshop? I like to create buttons and symbols and I would like to use them again and again. I was wondering if they stay saved even if I open different projects. I hope this isn't confusing since I am new and do not really understand the program. Thanks for any help.

PS, I have photoshop CS3

Virginia.
