Hi Gernot,

Thank you for the explanation. I have an understanding of most of that, but I may have to do a little reading. :)

I do like your idea of just creating your background cell to ensure that the color matches.

I'm going to test some other colors for fun to see if I get similar results with any of the others. It frustrates me when something just works and I don't understand why. I like to understand why.

Thank you again.
Have a great day,
Debbie

You can do what you want using the Select tool instead of the crop tool. Have Style = Fixed size then type 150px x 90px in the size boxes. Click on the image, move the selected area to where ever you need it, then Image, Crop.
Geoff.

click the clear button in the option bar in the crop tool first. (geoff's way works too, btw). THEN put in the size and units

150px and 90px

make sure to include the "px" after the #s.

If you leave the resolution box blank, whether the crop tool resamples or not then depends on the size units you choose. If pixel units are entered, the original resolution is preserved and resampling must occur to effect that. If inches are used, resampling does NOT occur.

And if that's too difficult for you (only joking) :-) go to Start > Search and type in Camera Raw. When the search shows you the file path as given in para 4 of the previous post, right click on the line > Explore and hey presto, as though by magic, there should be your .8bi file. Remove it (save it on the desktop or somewhere for a few days should things not work out) and place the new .8bi file in its place.

When you relaunch Photoshop go to Help > About > Camera Raw which should then indicate the newer version of Camera Raw being installed. If it doesn't then you've put it in the wrong place so now start over all over again (without going to jail) and try again. :-)

Hi Ray,

Sorry, there isn't a way to uninstall just the 64bit version. This is a limit in the license technology.

Can Photoshop CS4 be silently installed\uninstalled without the source files for 64bit?

Since Photoshop CS4 is 3 times the size of CS3 I would like to know if CS4 can be silently installed\uninstalled without using the payloads for the 64bit versions.

Okay I got it to install but I am getting this message about not having having VersionCue.DLL installed. I don't have it in the directory it's specifying, but I can't seem to find it online either. If can run my adobe programs just fine, but when I try to go to like my ITunes or My Downloads, it gives me this message.

Any ideas how I can fix it? I really don't want to uninstall everything. I have already done that so many times. I read an article written by Adobe that said essentially they don't know what the crap is goin on. Which I found real reassuring.

I posted a couple here already, and this msg is a follow up to advice for some of my problems and other things I read in going through posts.

I updated CS4 to 11.0.1 and I got the most recent drivers for my graphics card -- and they *were* recent, February 2009. Unfortunately this only seems to have made matters worse.

Editing text seemed to be a bit better, but images had grey backgrounds and selecting parts of the image turned the whole thing black. Calibrating monitor didn't help. I dumped the preferences and now I'm back to what I expect as far as image handling goes (no grey/black issues) but the text tool is at least as bad as it was prior to the changes and possibly worse.

If I type a word at regular typing speed it's a full second + before it appears. Highlight one letter in a word and hit the delete key -- it takes even longer for this to happen: visually nothing happens a good second +.

Vista Business, Radeon® X1650 Pro 512MB AGP, 2 gig RAM (Photoshop can use up to 70%) and huge amounts of scratch disk space -- four drives, the first of which has 350 gig. I'd say more but I keep falling farther behind on deadlines.

Jarem - thanks for mentioning the Lenovo - that's maybe something I should be looking into.

I've posted on the Dell forums at <http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/19262038/19441981.aspx#19441981> - I wait to see if that brings anything constructive.

could be ram or scratch disk space. try resetting the preferences first ( <http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1?14@@> ).

make sure you have enough free hard drive space on whatever drive you have designated as the scratch drive.

make sure the memory allocated to photoshop in preferences is set to about 55%.

if none of the above works, post back with your system specs and more detail.

<obvious_sarcasm>
You mean that canvas rotation and on-canvas brush resizing aren't improvements?
And 3D artists don't need to paint on or manipulate 3D models?
Gee, you should have told us that before hundreds of illustrators asked for those features.
</obvious_sarcasm>

We are listening to all of our market segments. We are getting improvements in for all of them. But not every segment is going to get a huge feature in every release.

Moxi - nice demos, but scales horribly. They're still working on it.
Remember that just because something has a nice demo (or a paper at SIGGRAPH) does not mean it is ready to ship in a commercial product that has to work across a wide range of hardware, OS versions, document sizes, etc. Sometimes we can come up with better algorithms and make it work -- but that takes time. And sometimes there's just no good way to make them work.

So is it possible to purchase a previous release of Photoshop?

Or maybe get a replacement if I can produce a valid license?

Or am I basically out in the cold here?

I think your best bet is to contact the makers of your word processor and ask them about an update.

------> RESOLVED!!!!! :) who'd thunk it, but reinstalling Picture Project fixed the issue with CS. I reinstalled it on a whim to see if it would help, and now that it did, I have noticed while opening files in CS, in the status/progress bar at the bottom of the CS window it says "reading Nikon NEF PP format." Apparently the "PP"=Picture Project, weird. I decided to try it after Geoff suggested ViewNX as part of a solution and I realized I uninstalled ViewNX from my machine recently; and after Dennis suggested Nikon made a plugin (I assumed only Adobe made the plugins for PS) it made sense that it would be some Nikon software I uninstalled that "broke" CS.

I thank everyone that took time to respond (no thanks to Adobe Tech support or customer service) :) :) :)

Hi everyone,

I have to enlarge quite a few high-res images for a catalog project. My rule of thumb has always been 120% of actual size max and I'm still safe.

However, the client wants some images to cover spreads, which would force me to blow those pics sometimes past 200% of their actual size.

I called the printer who's printing the job to get their thoughts on fractiles software and they said that they typically go to 200% of actual size with little or no pixilation/degradation. I find that hard to believe...

I am running PS CS4. I would really appreciate any thoughts on the matter or recommendations on fractiles software.

Thanks!

Jose
