You can use Illustrators 3D effect as well.

And it is pretty easy to do.

I have to admit, I am no genius at illustrator - but I am willing to try. This seems like such a straightforward thing, but it isn't in PS. Once you have the text the way you want it, and you have to make any kind of change - kerning, leading, etc... ...more work, and an increased chance of error. I always leave this task to the end, right before print - but that is when I never have the luxury of time.

I'll poke around in illustrator, but will the text maintain it's integrity? I produce visual graphics for print and crisp text is essential.

Thanks for the advise.

James,

It sounds to me like you should be using InDesign, really.

The images I artwork I use requires a lot of PS time. I used to use QXP, but after PS7 came out I dropped Quark altogether. I'm really an old PageMaker guy from way back in the Aldus days. Anyway, if I start using ID, I would need to justify it for a staff of 10. I don't know if I can (in this economy) only to make extruding text easier.

But thanks, I may pull out the trial version and see how it goes!

Perhaps we could see a couple final-sized examples of these extruded text things you do?Maybe that will help lead to the best solution.

You can use the free <http://www.pixentral.com> to upload and host images for posting here. Just read and follow the directions.

After the image you upload is displayed back to you, scroll down and copy ALL the text the the box labeled "HTML" for pasting in a reply here. Ignore the code in the box labeled "Forum"

Thanks for the clarity. When yes and when no? And how about Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 8 to be specific.

Hi Cindy!

I installed both, but you know my story. :-) I do believe I get the #1 Magnet For Trouble Award. LOL!

And sure enough, my problem was related to my own setup, ie that new Belkin Networking Hub.

Let us know how it goes Cindy.

Thx Wade,

Got it. You want View Camera movements and the ability to edit Rise/Fall, Shift, and Tilt of front and rear planes. I'll put this in as a feature request; you're right this currently can't be achieved in CS4's 3D camera.

Can you composite in a 3D layer with non-parallel verticals for placement and then perspective transform a rasterized copy to get what you need?

Steve - making a clear distinction between CAMERA controls, and the 3D scale and movement in the interface and tool bar would be beneficial. Allowing the same Camera positioning and 'lens' settings to an entire document, or group of layers would also make things less complex.

I realise at the moment you are trying to pile as much power in as possible, and 3D is a highly complex area. But its already (only version2) getting a little out of hand in terms of interface. And I think its making it difficult for people to use Photoshop to learn the 3D tools with ease.

I think one of the main challenges would be to try and keep all the power, and at the same time making this power truly accessible. THIS, if its done properly is how Photoshop could find a whole new audience. Because the main barrier at the moment for anyone getting into the existing world of 3D, is the accessibility of the software.

Oh I see what it is used it all the time it was usually printed out as a velox print so you could silhouette it or retouch with white opaque or black opaque.

I would think the Bit Map Halftoning would work it has a number of features light dot shape lines and the plug in might work as well.

Bringing back memories.

That's a good point. I'll have to check out the file size difference. I actually combine the pdfs into one pdf so I wonder if that reduces the file size any?

Most likely any and all older plug-ins that are not written in Universal Binary.

The reports should go to us, but we use the Apple crash report UI.
If our crash reporter code fails, then the Apple crash reporter kicks in and sends the report to Apple - and we eventually get that from Apple.

Chris,

I generally don't send in my crash reports (busy trying to get my work done),

Does is make a difference if we do? are these actively being monitored?

Hi Everyone,

I've searched and searched. Contacted Apple Care, brought out a local tech and no one seems to know how to fix my issue, so I'm hoping someone knows here.

I have a new 24" iMac, I've downloaded Photoshop CS4 to check out if I wanted to upgrade or not. I do, its fantastic.

My problem is that when I'm working on a image sometimes my 2nd monitor blinks in and out. Apple says its a software issue, as this does not happen any other time. I can run Light room and CS3 without any issues.

My theory is maybe the graphics card is getting maxed out and loosing a signal to the monitor?

Thanks!

Justin

The whole monitor blinks?
or just Photoshop documents on that monitor?

(all that Photoshop controls are it's windows, not the whole display)

Hello, this is my firs message here.
I need help because I do not find explanations in the PDF manual about two problems I encountered in the new CS4 release.
In CS3 if I move an image too high, and the title bar goes under the horizontal top bar of PhotoShop, it comes down automatically. In this way it is impossible for the title bar to remain under the top bar.
In CS4 the title bar of the image remains under the top bar and it become impossible to move it. The only way to move the image window is "fit to screen" (command-O).
--------------
The second problem is the rotation of the level styles. In CS3 if I apply a style to a level (shadow, bump...) for example with 45°, the degrees remains the same if I rotate the picture 90° or upside down. This is very useful to obtain, for example, different ceramic tiles with bump & shadow in the same direction from a single original tile. But in CS4 the degrees rotate together with the rotation of the picture! It is a BIG trouble for me because many times I have dozens of levels, everyone with his own angle of bump or shadow. In CS4 I have to individually change all the degrees in all the levels to return to the original situation. Is it possible to lock the degrees of the styles even rotating of the picture?

Yes, that is a known issue. The workaround is either Command+0, as you say, or tap the Tab key to move the Option Bar momentarily out of the way.
