If your images are in sRgb, why convert to sRgb?

If you're already in sRGB, then you obviously don't have to do it again. Of course, if you are starting from a dubious starting point - not being sure about the accuracy of your monitor calibration, you can never be sure of exactly the color space, no matter what profile is embedded.

Hi There,
I have been trying to install photoshop CS4 extended all day with no success. I have Windows Vista Home Premium, and more than enough space on the computer, have deleted my existing version of CS2, and It keeps coming up and saying that it was checking system profile (or something like that) and now I have just tried it again and it comes up with several errors, the first one is MAIN_FILE_VERSION. The second one is PRODUCT_REGISTRY_PARENT. And the last one is PRODUCT_REGISTRY_KEY. I am trying to install the student eddition, and have sent in my application into adobe already. I am usually really good with computers, but this is just running into a hole for me, and I really need photoshop as I have a shoot tomorrow and need to edit it. ALL HELP VERY WELCOME!
Thanks!
Lucy

In that case the warnings in the thread apply.
Check with Adobe that your serial number is valid.

Hello,
we have installed Adobe Photoshop CS3 on one PC. All image files are opened with Photoshop. But for some reasons another program (Quicktime Imageviewer) has updated itselve and is opening all imagefiles.
How can I now reasign the imagefiles to Photoshop? I don't want to make a rightclick and choose "Open With" to every image format! Is there any option in Photoshop??

Yep. Reinstall the entire program. (Doing the right click for each of the image types you use regularly is probably going to take a lot less time.)

But actually I don't to make much use of scratch space because such use
would slow computer down.
How do you know that? Photoshop determines scratch usage.
And it is not ideal to have the scratch space on the system drive.

I'm using a Samsung Syncmaster T220 LCD profiled and calibrated with a Spyder2Express. PC runs Vista 32 SP2, Photoshop CS4. Using Adobe RGB for workspace profile. System profile is set to the Spyder2Express profile.
Open up photo in Photoshop. Colors fine.
Resize for web, convert to sRGB, then check preview in "Save for web..."
Under preview, I preview the following:
-Monitor Color
-Windows (no color management)
-Macintosh (no color management)
-Document Profile
The Preview of Windows, Document Profile settings look exactly right, whereas the Monitor Color setting looks badly darkened. I preview with Firefox, save and view image using IrfanView and Firefox. It's badly darkened. I'm stumped. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. This is similar to another recent posting here, except that I am using a calibrated display with profile.
Anyone know what I'm missing?
Thanks, Luke

Just spoken to Adobe - apparently the only way that I can upgrade is by buying the full CS4 Extended software so that's another £868 on top of the £550 I've already paid! This means that someone who bought the latest version of Photoshop Elements can upgrade for less than I am able. I believe that's not just wrong, but criminal! I am now lodging a complaint.
Steve - thanks for the info about AutoPano - looks really good and much cheaper than an upgrade. Have you ever had problems with stitching in the program or does it do the job every time?

Sorry if this question has already been asked. Am using CS3 which for some strange reason over the past few weeks has been asking me to register the product whenever the application is opened although I have already registered it. How do I prevent this from happening please? I am the only user (hence the administrator) on a Windows XP Pro SP3 machine.

I would like to know what I could expect as far as printing goes if I have a
CD with images cropped at 4x5 with a resolution of 1000?
If images are "cropped at 4x5" would you interpret this to mean they are
800x1000 pixels?
Would this be enough resolution to print a photo 16x20?
Thanks so much ...

Not enough info.
4x5 what? inches, millimeters, centimeters?
Printed how? High end press, low end ink jet?

L.
You have to get your terminology right. 1000 is not a resolution. 300 pixels per inch would be.
If your image is 1000 pixels wide, then printing at 300 ppi would make your images a little over 3 inches.
Remember: images have a pixel size, for instance 3000 x 2000 pixels.
Resolution is "tagged" to the image as a print instruction.
With that determined it also has a print size.

I think it means that the jpgs are 1000ppi at 4x5, so the images would be 4000x5000 which means you can easily print them at 12x15 @ 300ppi, on an inkjet it could be larger.

Looking at requirements I have some ?s:
1. Can I run 64-bit CS4 on XP x64?
2. Is CS4 supported on XP x64 or do I have to move to Vista x64?
3. What GPU does CS4 recommend to use?
Thanks!

How about checking the system requirements. If you did that you'd know
that XP64 is unsupported. Use it at your own risk.

Yeah, I get this. I should get more RAM. I should get a new PC. RAM is cheap at the moment, but my computer is pretty old and I don't really see the point in spending money on SDRAM (which is the only thing my pc can use) when when I eventually upgrade it'll be unusable.
But my question still hasn't really been answered. Is there any concrete evidence that suggests that the 3d menu is for some reason disabled if you don't have much RAM installed? Premiere for example wants 1GB of memory. I only have 512MB, and it runs slow as hell, but I can still use it and all its features - I just have to come back in half an hour if I want to do something computationally intensive. I know that's more related to my CPU, but can you see what I'm saying. I could get more RAM, but why bother when I should - as far as anyone can tell - be able to do these things.

you shouldn't shut down the system until the cs apps are closed. the preferences are written when you shut the apps down. you'll run into problems if your computer shuts down while an app is writing to disk.
