I have a friend who is an illustrator - does hand drawings, scans them
in and then does final touching up on Photoshop.

He has asked me for a recommendation for a suitable colour printer that
will do accurate prints.

Volume is not high - maybe 25 - 50 pages a month.

My gut feel is that he would be best served with an inkjet printer but I
don't have a clue as to what features to look out for. I presume that
the ability to calibrate the printer is important. Cost is an issue so
not too expensive.

Can anyone recommend a suitable printer?

My question is about animated GIFs, so let's start with this:

- Are there "animated PNGs", "animated JPEGs", or TIFFs, or animated
anything else?

Notice that I am not talking about programming technologies such as
flash, etc.

The specific project that I have is a demo program that processes some
stages and when it is done with each, it places either a green check
mark or a red X (with obvious meaning) next to the individual items.

I simply sent a green check mark and a red X to the programmer, would
like the demo to look spiffier. Now I would like to see the check mark
being drawn, i.e., animated. I don't suppose the programmer has to be
concerned or involved, right? I should simply send him an animated
file and tell him: "here is the new green check mark".

What about the repetitive cycle? Is there some internal flag in
animated GIFs (or animated anything) that says: "you should cycle
forever" or "one cycle, and then you stop" (this is my preferred
behavior for this application).

Should I forget about animated GIFs and use something else?

Can a Student Edition of Photoshop be upgraded to the latest non-
student version? I bought a copy of Photoshop, supposed to be new
retail opened box, it turned out to be a student edition. I did get a
good price, and now I've argued with the guy for days that he
advertised one thing and sent another. He sent the serial number that
you normally have to send them a student ID for, and he says it will
upgrade when the next version comes out without a problem. I guess
that's my bigest concern, if this is a pirated serial number, and if
it will upgrade when the next version comes out.

Any advice?
