So what you essentially ask about is whether write-only files are seekable..
That's very interesting question, I never thought of it that way...:) Anyone has
experience with this?

Append with a "echo foo >> file" works.

Overwrite with a echo "bar > file" also works

But what Linux command can I use to prepend data to a file that I am not
supposed to be able to read?

Hmm, I guess that's not what you asked; I read "full overwrite" to mean
clobber the target file, not prepend.

I don't think you can prepend to a file using standard shell
redirection; you can either clobber or append. But that's a shell IO
issue; in theory if such an operator existed you could do it. But are
you asking just out of curiosity, or do you have a need for this
feature? If you think you need to prepend a write-only file, can you
describe exactly what your situation is?

For a short while I owned a DEC Rainbow. It was old even then, but I was
playing around with CP/M computers for a while. I think Compaq
"assimilated" DEC, before being assimilated by HP.

Yeh, my first real computer. Programming in pdp assembler, converting to
binary and entering via paddle pops.

I am searching for a commandline program to create frequency diagrams from
audio files to be used for further inspection.

Further Inspection could for example be scanning the resulting diagram for
the speed of a song or the Paeks to create rythem-correct slideshows for a
song.

If someone could give me some more Information about this topic: Many

Any Url and Contacts are welcomed.
Very welcomed are also information about grafical routines to inspect such
Diagrams and Infos about the important data of such a diagram so it has all
the info in grafical form in itself it needs to scan it with grafical
methods for different data like the beat.
