I deinstalled the driver via the deinstallation routine in control panel/software, rebooted my pc, installed the driver, erased all user preferences with the driver tool. Problem remains the same.

I have Photoshop CS3 running on the same machine and there is no problem with pressure. It just happens with CS4.

Here's the Link to my post in the Wacom-Forum, where it is assumed it might be a bug in Photoshop:

gamma last shipped in version cs2. you can google for monitor calibration and get a sw tool from someone you've never heard of. or buy a hardware calibration unit (starting at about 100 bux) or you can reinstall gamma from cs2.

Hi Jim,

It's nice to hear the forum community is working so well for you. :-)

You need to rename the plug-in files themselves; renaming the parent folder won't work. I wouldn't say the Canon plug-ins are "old" but it appears they could benefit from an update to address the missing icon issue. Thanks for verifying these as another source; I'll follow up with Canon.

Regarding plug-in portability, there are a few factors that control whether they will load in newer versions of Ps. The big one is OS changes and hardware changes. For instance, there are changes to Vista that might break older plug-ins. Also, no older plug-ins will load on the 64-bit version of Ps. On the Mac side, there have been such things as OSX, and chipset changes (PPC vs. MacTel). Some providers have also used activation, so you'll have to make sure to check on their policy and implementation for transferring plug-ins.

Very generally, no plug-in can be made fully future proof but they should be usable across a few versions. Where that doesn't hold true are disruptive changes such as 64 bit native requirements or chipset architecture changes. Plug-ins can also use a variety of technologies for their UI which muddies the water a bit concerning forward compatibility. It is best to try before you buy and ask specific questions regarding version support.

One last thing, you can also find plenty of resources from the online Help and Support site (Help> Photoshop Help... F1) new to CS4.

regards,
steve

[New Poster Alert]

I have a 48bit RGB TIF file, and I would like to save just one channel from that file as a 16bit Grayscale.

Having done a bit of digging, I have found numerous ways to convert the whole image to Grayscale, with varying degrees of artistic control, but nothing about ripping out a single channel.

Can it be done? How? Have I just overlooked the obvious somewhere?

I would like to do this with as little user intervention as possible as I'm likely to want to do it, in batch mode, to a lot of images.

PS: I have no objection to a solution that actually saves all three channels in one operation, each to a separate file. I can always throw away the spares.

Regards, Andrew.

In the Channels flyout; will 'Split Channels' and saving the results work for you?

That has to be the fastest winner of my "hero of the week" award in quite a long time!

Split Channels certainly gets the data the way I want it.

Now I just have to work out the best way of automating the save(s).

Many Thanks,

Another, perhaps easier way would be to choose Duplicate Channel form the flyout and select Document>New in the dialog dropdown.

Photoshop version 7
Windows XP operating system
1GB RAM
plenty of disk space

1-Photocopy of a bible page scanned as Bitmap, and converted to Grayscale in Photoshop.
2-Improvements made using either "levels" adjustment layers OR multiple layers set to either "screen" or "multiply."
3-Saving (flattening) causes the image to revert to the original.
4-If you know why, please respond to: clm_46@yahoo.com

You're applying a curve to an image that only has two values (black and white). The preview looks ok, but is purely deceptive. Try applying your edits while viewing at 100% view. You can use two views of the image (window > arrange > new window for doc x) to have one at your favorite viewing percentage and one at 100%. You might try blurring by .25 to .75 px before messing with curves/levels.

Most mid to high end monitors are capable of <120cd/m2.

I produce original Fine art prints and I use an Eizo CG301W which is currently set at 80cd/m2 and it's a dream to work on. It was a big outlay but it has very accurate colours and proper Blacks - not that dark blue/black I see on the dell - this was the main reason for the upgrade.

Personally, I was glad to see the back of my CRT as it gave me headaches and was a royal pain in the bum to get the geometry correct.

I haven't used these, but NEC's and LaCie's come highly recommended.

Those last two are of major interest. however, NEC is going out of the monitor business, for the most part.

The geometry on the Mitsubishis never gave me problems.

Recently, if I open a file larger than 20 MB in CS3, the application begins to consume large amounts of RAM, sometimes more than 180 MB. It does this even when I just open the file and don't do anything to it for a few minutes. What performance settings should I change under Preferences to prevent this?

1st thing to try if something weird suddenly occurs is to reset the preferences.

When I open a picture in CS4 is comes up at the upper left corner of the screen... no big deal...
BUT, when I try to pull it down to another section of the screen it pops back up to the default position...
I was able move the image around in CS3.. .what am I missing in CS4
Is there a setting I am missing or a preference setting I am missing..

Please advise someone, Thanks

Tom

Can't remember the exact answer, but it has to do with the position you release the picture from. Seems like you have to drag it to lower right corner, there may even be a screen marker change to indicate the position. With this clue just experiment.

isn't this the tabbed interface issue? there is a way in preferences to turn that off.

Yes and you can float/arrange the windows from the drop-down menu in the bar at the top.

It all takes some getting sorted the way you want it.

When I open a Threshold layer (or any other Adjustment layer), CS4 opens an Adjustment Layers pallet (or Tab Group or whatever it's called) and leaves it there, even if I delete the Threshold layer. To get rid of the Tab Group, I have to manually close it. That's annoying.

CS3 let me add a Threshold layer (or any other Adjustment layer) without opening the Adjustment Layers pallet.

Is there a place I can click in CS4 to tell it to not open the Adjustment Layers pallet whenever I add an Adjustment layer?

Windows XP.

Thanks.

I have the same problem, and have been complaining about it, and many of the other CS4 interface 'enhancements' since the product was first released. Someone at Adobe decided that this information (and that of the dreaded Info palette) was so important that we'd have to see it even if we chose otherwise.

So far, I've been barking at the moon.

I'm new to Photoshop (used to Corel PhotoPaint where I have a command under "File" to "acquire" an image from an external scanner).

Is there a way to do it in Photoshop or do I look for another app in CS4 for that purpose?

Thanks,
Rob

Photoshop in and of itself is not scanner software. the only scanning ability Photoshop has is through a 3rd party scanning plugin that comes with your scanner. the plugin will still access the stand alone software.

the problem with using Photoshop to scan is that you are tying up a $1000 application as a UI for a $100 scanner. seems a bit silly. just use the software that came with your scanner and use that.

Now you can keep working in Photoshop while you are scanning.
