I just added 6 adjustment layers to a single image file and it took 3 minutes to save. The image is 1.94 GB on disk. It's the 6 different images on 6 layers that really makes this thing huge and 20 minutes sounds believable.

Don't forget that layers with real contents in them take more memory, time, and disk space than empty (or solid color) layers.

Have you spoken to NIK about this? This would be a prudent avenue to explore since Adobe did not make the plugins.

Hi there,
When I try to open a TIFF file, exported from CorelDraw X4, PS gives me the following error: "Could not complete your request because of a program error".

I use Photoshop CS2 and CS4, and CorelDraw 12 and X4.

In CS2 I can open tiffs exported from CorelDraw 12 and X4 without problems.
In CS4 I can open tiffs, exported from CorelDraw 12, but cannot open these from X4.

I've tried various settings for tif export in corel - no compression, LZW compression, with & without applying ICC profile, RGB & CMYK color, etc... The result is always the same.

Any ideas?

Why TIF? You'd probably be better off with EPS files.

Yes, I work with EPS, but it's an interesting problem with TIF files, and it would be nice to find the solution.

Do they open in PhotoPaint?

Yes, tiffs, exported from CorelDraw X4, can be opened without problems in PhotoPaint 12 & X4.

Apparently not a new problem and not limited to CS4.

Feb. 2008: "What is going on with .tiff files from X4? I tried importing one into OmniPage Pro 14 to OCR and it returned an error message. I had to open the .tiff in X3 and save it for it to work."
See: <http://coreldraw.com/forums/t/3677.aspx>

There appears to be a "fix," at least for CS3, linked about halfway down the thread.

It turns out the problem was actually that brushes have a max size of
2500 pixels and if your canvas is over that size, it will not allow
even a smaller selection to be a brush preset and that is why my Define brush preset was grayed out.

Hmm, it should go by the selection size not the document size.
Check your selection feathering (in case that was increasing the selection size).

Hello everyone,

I took a picture of a romantic place in Durham (England). You can see it here -- <http://www.badongo.com/pic/5470867?size=original>

I think there are things that can be done in Photoshop to improve this picture and do justice to the beautiful scene - for example, somehow accentuate the dramatism of the water reflections, or add lighting effects that can maybe compensate for the less-than-ideal time of the day when the picture was taken.

The first step would be to find the right cropping for the picture, my idea was something like this -- <http://www.badongo.com/pic/5470940?size=original>

Then, of course, a certain number of processing steps. I will try to put my rudimentary Photoshop skills to work and see what comes out, but I could really use and appreciate it if anyone would like to try their hand at this too. I want both to put this picture in a better light, and also get a tiny bit better at PS in the process. Some of the effects I had in mind are Light Source, Blur and PhotoFilter; and I'm sure there are a lot others that I don't know (or don't use creatively enough) that could be applied with nice results in this case. Once again, I'd be happy to receive any visual suggestions. Thanks in advance!

This is a nice shot, I wouldn't mess too much with it. I certainly like the uncropped version better, and the moderate pixel dimensions do not allow much cropping anyway.

It's difficult to avoid blowing out the highlights in scenes like this without underexposing the shadows. Still, careful adjustments can bring out shadow detail.

My suggestion here would be to work with luminosity masks. Press ctrl+alt+2. This loads a selection of the bright values, while dark values are gradually less selected.

Keep the selection active, and then go to the adjustments panel and make a Curves adjustment layer. A layer mask, "containing" your selection, is created with it. This means that your adjustments will affect the high values more than the low. Invert the mask - ah, well, illustrating it is easier than describing it:

You might try the reverse for the sky (but slightly!). I wouldn't do very much more, except select the reflections in the water and bring the specular highlights up to pure white (which they aren't).

Hi,
I have just bought the R2880 and when printing from Photoshop CS4 prints are really dark with some colours ridiculously over-saturated.

I read something about downloading a plug-in but unsure from where and how?

This is my first printer and I have no clue what to do as i'm really inexperienced in these matters! Any advice would be greatly appreciated, (in lay-mans terms though!)

Many thanks, Xanthe

I was able to locate, download and install an earlier version of my nVidia driver. Now open GL is recognized by PSCS4.

My apologies to Chris Cox and my thanks to all who advised me to go back to an older, working version of the video driver. It reminds me again "if it isn't broken, don't try to fix it." No more going for the latest drivers.

I have recently bought a Canon 450D camera and have noticed that the RAW CR2 images produced are not compatible with my Photoshop CS2 version. I not sure about upgrading to the latest version of Photoshop since I probably wouldn't use all the features but I would probably upgrade to Elements 7. Is Elements 7 completely compatible with my Canon CR2 files and has anyone else used this combination and been impressed with the results?

Thanks.

Here I am again. Well, I will go for the Macbeth.

As for monitors drifting to red, my La Cie 320 is ok in that respect, but I do so wish I had something other than it. Why? Because one has to keep the resolution very high (I have mine at the lowest possible high, 1400 x 1050), and I've got all kinds of problems seeing things in different programs, including the menus etc. in PS, my Palm Pilot address book etc. I've done all the changing to largest type etc., and it's still unsatisfactory. I'm most concerned because I cannot see my images as my clients do, most of whom still have CRTs.

I've spoken to my computer repairman, and he said that he'll come and have a look one day soon and see if there's anything else that can be done.

So tell me, Would I fare any better with Nec2690 or another monitor?

Probably, you will have to check.

NEC is going out of the display business for graphics anyway, so they probably won't be around much longer.

Have you selected Clear Type for your display? (Rt click Desktop,> Appearance>Effects. Click "Clear Type").

And run the monitor at native resolution - 1600 x 1200 (I checked...)

Mapie - this is an old post, and most of the problems listed were fixed with driver updates or the 11.0.1 update.
