Ann,
You DO get Bridge if you only install InDesign or only install Illustrator. Or only Photoshop. It is not tied to Photoshop alone. It is in essence tied to the Suites and you are unable to NOT install Bridge (should you so wish) when you install a Suite or part thereof (doesn't matter which Suite). You also get it when installing a standalone version of one of the Adobe apps, at least with Illustrator or InDesign (the other ones I've never seen as standalones and don't know). Bridge is not only used for photos. It is also used for vector art from Illustrator and previewing InDesign pages before openign or palcing them and previewing pdfs and a lot of other files, plus for placing images into either Indesign or Illustrator. And of course for the collaboration between the Suite apps of the same version.

Bridge started out as the File Browser in Photoshop only, but that changed with CS2.

Thank you for clarifying that as I certainly remember that it was tied to Photoshop at one time.
As I use the Suites, I hadn't realised that that proprietorial situation had changed.

Btw, can anyone confirm if double-clicking in the grey area brings up
the open file dialog? (as it does in windows) I don't have CS4 to play
with yet.
Hey Peter, yes, this is how it currently works.
Is there a way to make all documents open fullscreen by default?
Jared, yes, you're able to do this by enabling tabs.

You're right, I interpreted full screen as him wanting it "maximized".

Ok, I was using quotes because I was guessing at the terminology. Insert whatever terminology you'd like to use for "taking up the entire screen as opposed to floating". Cool?

That is called full screen mode. and you can't have full screen mode as default.
What you may be thinking about is the application frame, my answer in post #1.

Yeah, maybe I'm confused here... I thought Jared was asking in #24 how enabling the Application Frame would get full screen mode (taking up entire screen). I responded by saying he would need to enable tabs (because I interpreted it as taking up the whole screen, not full screen mode).

Buko,
Jumper placement can determine whether it is a 1.5 or 3.0 SATA drive.
===
Linda,
A jumper is a tiny "strap" that bridges two of the terminal pins you'll see on the end of the drive adjacent to where the power and signal cables connect, and change certain drive characteristics. You probably don't need it, but you should verify.
The options for formatting don't seem to include HSF+. I'm writing the
drive to zeros using Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
HFS+ is Mac OS Extended.

About 3 weeks ago, all of a sudden PS would crash whenever I try and open a file. Doesn't seem to matter what type of file, I've tried JPEGs, TIFFs etc. All crash. Even if I create a new file in PS, save it, and try and reload it, crash city. I'm using Leopard 10.5.6 and PS CS3 v10.0.1. Only thing that has changed is I'm now using an Epson 3800, which works fine with Lightroom.
Any thoughts? I'm in the process of reinstalling everything, for the 3rd time. Don't hold much hope.

William,
By "load" and "reload" do you just mean opening the file? Are you using the correct Epson driver for your system? Did you repair permissions, repair disk, run Disk Warrior, check for damaged or corrupt fonts, clear your caches, reset Photoshop preferences, or try to log in as a new user?

Actually, only 128 MB VRAM on board to get some OpenGL features. Some 3D GPU features in Ps Extended will require 256 MB in order to use.
Leona, video cards specs are needed to trouble shoot this, but even with a supported configuration, you may get that message in some conditions (ie. multiple windows open, high screen resolution on multiple 30" monitors). However, in your case with the preference option being grayed out, this sounds like you either need to check your video card driver or the video card itself is underpowered.

Eric,
Another consideration is how many and what size/resolution monitors are you driving with that card.
You might also try going into Prefs.> Performance> (GPU) Advanced Settings...> and changing the Advanced Drawing option. Also, what is the image size you're working with and do you still see anomalies with 1024px x 1024px?

We actually believe the situation will be better with the iMacs as they
will be ON the tables and not under them...
Keeping computers that far off the floor will definitely help to keep them clean.

Somehow I posted the first question by itself inadvertently.
These are 3 related queries about use of Photoshop to create or modify elements to be used strictly in a web site.
1. I am told but am not aware of typesetting controls in Photoshop CS 2 or 3. (The manuals have little or nothing.) Can I do manual kerning in Photoshop--that is can I adjust space subtly between any two characters? Note that I do not want each character to be a separate unit.
2. Let's say I have a graphic element, a rectangle roughly (for purposes of illustration) 1 x 4 inches, with rounded corners. In the middle of that unit is a word, let's say, "Features" (could be any word). The word is meant to be part of the graphic unit--it is not meant to be text that search engines might find. Can that word be any typeface in the world, as part of a graphic element, or must it be a typeface found on most computers? (We are debating Century Gothic versus Avant Garde Gothic. I think it does NOT matter, as long as the word is part of a graphic unit and is not a discrete word.)
3. Does it matter in any way whether that graphic unit above--a rounded rectangle with a word embedded--is created in InDesign, saved as a PDF, and Saved for Web within Photoshop? Or whether it is created from scratch in Photoshop?
Thank you.
