Yes.

I'm going to try a re-install tomorrow after work to see if that fixes things. One other thing I had renamed some of the application folders (mainly removing the unnecessary Adobe prefix). This I've discovered was a bad idea. Adobe has the default names somewhat hard coded. When looking for and applying some updates this can present an problem.

I did and all that came up was this post and 2 others for the ATI 9600 which is another beast. I'm still experiencing the same bug/driver issue. If I turn off OpenGL completely it still manifests itself. I still don't know if it is more a issue with the Late 2008 Macbook Pro Nvidia 9600 drivers or with Photoshop CS4. I have downloaded and applied the 11.01 update without any change. I don't know if it is a corrupted preference file or bad Photoshop installation either. I always hate trashing the preference file as I end up having to spend time getting everything back the way I like it.

Ann
You cannot open images from iPhoto in Bridge as Bridge is blind to the iPhoto Library (has been like that for some versions already). If you want to do that you first have to either export the images out of iPhoto or - at least it is possible in Bridge CS4 and iPhoto '09 - drag en entire iPhoto-event, or single images, into a folder in Bridge and have them copied out that way. Which is not necessary to begin with as you can set default in iPhoto to always edit in Photoshop.

Your scron of iPhoto is uncalled for.

Wanted to tell you that already in the previous thread, but never managed to to do that as thread got closed before I had an opportunity to.

I also feel that inter-action questions between Photoshop and iPhoto are perfectly IN place in this forum. As are other inter-application questions where Photoshop is one of the participants in the interaction between the applications.

Thank you, no. I already got the answer at #10. The reason I keep saying that was this was the first time anybody mentioned an actual setting, sRGB. I got information on what not to use, RGB, but not what to use. Thanks again for the brilliant conversation.

sRGB is a Profile (or color space) used on the Internet (and in unmanaged applications)

"RGB" — like "CMYK" — has many variations like ProPhotoRGB, AdobeRGB, ColormatchRGB, US Web Coated (SWOP) v2, US Sheetfed Coated v2, Euroscale Coated v2

if crossing over from a CMYK world to publish RGB on the Internet, Convert to sRGB (profile) first, and then move forward

I say this so this thread doesn't confuse anyone trying to grasp this basic point

One question that was not asked nor answered is if both computers in questions were running the same version of Photoshop. To complicate this matter, different versions of Ps used different Pantone Libraries to reference the Lab values. Pantone updates their libraries periodically and that can be another factor in the discrepancy.

CS2 (home) and CS3. The colors were fine when I changed the monitor. Pantone is annoying that way. The CMYK equivalents are always drabber than the Pantone solid colors.

"The CMYK equivalents are always drabber than the Pantone solid colors"

If the Pantone color is within the gamut of the CMYK process in question, then there should be little difference. Any Pantone color that is outside of the CMYK offset process will, by definition, have to be limited to the nearest equivalent mix of CMYK. How "drab" that appears is really dependent on just how far out of gamut the Pantone color was.

Your Pantone 307 example, would be particularly difficult in CMYK. Blues always are a problem, although you can sometimes tweak the CMYK equivalents to produce a color that feels closer to what you were after in the first place.

The CMYK equivalents are always drabber than the Pantone solid colors.

That is because they are showing you the closest that you can come to matching a named Pantone Formula (a formula, or pigment-mixing recipe is all that a Pantone Color is) when printing with Process inks.

The Pantone "Solid" color represents what you can hope to get when printing with a fifth named Pantone Spot Color but the final result will still depend on the stock that you choose, and press-conditions at the time.

Also, as Peter indicated, Pantone do change their formulae from time to time and the version of Photoshop which you are using will be employing the LUTs which were current and authorised by the Pantone Corporation when that particular version of Photoshop was created.

To choose colors for Web site or on screen presentations, choose from Adobe's Color Picker while working in an sRGB working space and save your chosen color as a swatch.

To archive and install to fix a not working shortcut is really overkill, worst kind. Archive and install is a last resort, not a fix for just everything there might be.

Always start to check your personal user-prefs, delete the old ones, start over with new ones. And check defaults in all places where shortcuts can get overriden, like Spotlight, Systempreferences for Keyboard and mouse and the application itself.

Universal Access settings maybe? Check and see if they are turned off. Also check setting in Keyboard Shortcuts.

Except that in this case, it is highly possible that a corrupt version of the Mac OS may have been mass-installed in every machine in the place from a Disk Image?

Lundberg02,

Here's a post from yesterday at the Apple discussion boards which reinforces what Chris said. It's a reply to a specific mention of iFreeMem:

Generally clearing cache will slow your system down, not speed it up.
Data is kept in cache so it is available to your system from RAM rather
then a slower source such as a disk or the web. Once you clear cache,
your system is forced to get all the data once more from the slower sources,
hence it runs slower.

Cache should only be clear when you have a very strong reason to believe
that the data in cache has been corrupted and only then.

I know that is not what the developers of the cache cleaners tell you.
But think about it for a half a second, if the only time anyone was going
to use their product was when cache was corrupt they would be make about
one sale a decade.

I don't believe that iFreeMem touches your cache. It clears unreleased RAM, such as the massive amounts that Safari won't let go of. This is based on daily use to keep Safari from quitting on me.

What's more, you may not get any benefit in Photoshop from running multiple
video cards according to this Adobe tech note

The SLI and Crossfire technologies that use more than one GPU to speed
up full-screen games will not work with Photoshop, because their use is
limited by design to accelerate only full-screen games.

This has nothing to do with the Mac OS - SLI and Crossfire works in Windows ONLY.

However, that still doesn't mean there's no reason to use two video cards with OSX - if you need to run more than two displays, you need more than one video card.

You might want to clean the font cache after installing additional fonts (can be done with Cocktail or FontFinagler and a lot of other apps as well). Usually helps in all Adobe apps when a font won't show. And put them in the Macintosh HD/Library/Fonts folder if you didn't already. Which fonts folder did you place them in?

Ramón, the reason I recommend just renaming it is because if resetting the prefs doesn't fix it, then you can just quit PS, delete the new file, and restore the name of the original prefs file to get back your settings. (I tend to customize many of the default settings, so this method can save me time.)

Thanks Fred, very helpful info!

glad to hear. let us know if the problem recurs.

Speed-wise it's fine, but the video is a little choppy. If it zoomed at
any greater speed, you wouldn't know when to stop. It's not mean for huge
leaps anyhow.

Ok, good to know the zoom performance is comparable with a desktop. The choppiness in the vid is probably due to it being compressed and converted a couple times in order to post it up. It's smooth as butter on my notebook.

Ramon -Its not that Adobe doesnt provides option to install at a custom location. But once it is installed , its safe to let it remain at that location only.
If you keep on changing application folder location after install then it goes under cycle of repair sessions.

Unicorn - you can Uninstall just Photoshop uninstaller using Adobe Uninstaller and then reinstall Photoshop at the original location where you installed Creative Suite.Close any running AV , other Adobe apps and then try running updates.Hope it will work for you.

And I will assume that under this cirumstance, any later updaters will properly find it. This is very interesting!

<http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k156/darthsauce/mac/shortcuts.gif>

I decided to change the keyboard shortcut for "Save for Web & Devices" to Command-Option-S but I noticed that it was already assigned to "Save As". So I look over and also notice "Save As" has 2 shortcuts assigned to it. I'm just curious why this is the case by default? In this case, was Command-Option-S a legacy shortcut for "Save As" on older Macs or something?

Also, why do shortcuts always require Command? I'd wanna reduce the number of shorcuts that require 4 keys by utilizing Control or Option.

Lastly, with the first issue above, just wanted to point out a minor error in the copy that says "File > File > Save As" when referring to the "Save As" path.
