That won't work, the dialogs are different.

Try updating the drivers.

True - had to use a dictionary to confirm the meaning of the word
(although it is obviously an auxiliary derived from pretend).
Is it pretentious to reply to something in another language than your
home language when not being100% sure of the meaning of a specific
word?

I am not a regular reader of this group (in fact 1st time here:-)
Only a passer-by.

There is of course the possibility your answer impressed the rest of
the contributors, but over here it only evoked a smile.

Keep well

But it's trivial to simply screen scrape the image so that's pointless.

Quite, flash is definitely a negative pointer as far as I'm concerned.

Though I have not sold a photo for publication I've wondered if
potential publishers consider photos that have been shown on web pages
as still being qualified as available as "first time published"
photos. It seems that this may compromise a photos acceptance as not
before published.

So wait, the worst thing about paint shop pro is that it has the some of the same bullshit that adobe does?

Here's where the scales tipped in paint shop pro's favour:

Adobe - does what I want it to but turns the screen blue for no good reason

PSP - all of the above minus the blue part

I would never have even considered paint shop pro before all of this crap, now I discover that I could get the job done just as well without spending well over a thousand dollars? I was saving up for an upgrade, now I have a holiday planned.

I suppose I should be saying thanks here.

What's all this paranoia about "phones home"? Do you seriously think the licence checking function is surreptitiously copying the contents of your hard drive as you work. Turn off the internet if you think it's a bad thing – the software will still work.

Sheesh!

Stephen: 'whenever I shutdown photoshop my screen gets a little bit bluer', so your screen is bluer after you shutdown PS, how is that PS's fault?

I totally fail to see the logic. It doesn't do any such thing on my machine or anyone elses so .............. it couldn't possibly be something else could it?

While we all try to be helpful, it is not possible when you have already made a decision about what the fault is.

We are all happy you have sorted this out by getting another software, but methinks that you are in for a sad surprise somewhere in the future.

When I modify a jpeg and save it as Save for web and devices, the next time I open the same document, it gives an extra (15-17) saturation to it.I can't figure out why. I watched Lynda's Photoshop videos and probably we saved something there, but I don't know what. How can I fix that?

When you're saving for web you are most likely stripping out the profile and converting to sRGB, then when you reopen it as an untagged RGB in your Adobe RGB working space, the sRGB numbers will look more saturated when viewed as if they were in Adobe RGB. Assign sRGB to the image and it will look correct again.

HP Support had my hopes high:
"I understand that you are experiencing the issue with changing the screen resolution to 1680 x1050 on your
HP Pavilion Slimline s3230.uk PC.
I will be glad to assist you.
The above issue occurs due to the graphic card driver update.
I have verified the product specifications and found that the Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Media
Center was bundled with your PC.
I have also checked that the Radeon HD2350 (wildcat) graphics card was bundled with the PC and it support the
2D Display Modes 1680x1050 60 Hz(refresh rate).
I request you to download and install the ATI Radeon HD Graphics Driver Update.
Please click on the below provided web link to download the update :
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software10/COL22401/pv-59174-1/sp37436.exe
====Installation Instructions====
1. Click the Download Only button.
2. At the File Download screen, click the Save button.
3. At the Save As screen, save the file to your Desktop.
4. If a message appears stating that the file already exists, click YES to overwrite file.
5. Double-click the icon for the update downloaded to your desktop, and then click NEXT.
6. Follow on-screen instructions.
7. If prompted to restart the system upon completion of the update, click YES and allow system to restart.
The above update will resolves the issue where the proper screen resolution settings are not automatically
selected for certain monitors, including the HP w2408h, HP w2207h and Compaq v220 .
I hope the above troubleshooting will help you to resolve the issue.
If you need further assistance, please write back to us with PC information and we will be glad to assist you.
For information on keeping your HP and Compaq products up and running, please visit ourWeb site at:
<http://www.hp.com/go/totalcare>
Have a Nice Day!
"

And then after my reply
" If the PC supports the 1680x1050 resolution, it will shown in Display settings. As you have informed that the PC is not showing the 1680x1050 resolution in the display settings it indicates that 1680x1050 resolution is not supported by your PC bundled video card.
This should resolve the issue. If you need further assistance, please reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you further.
"
I have since followed ATI's removal and update routine and nothing has changed so I'll give it a day or two as there is actual work waiting to be done here. Nagging feeling is that I'm looking at an interpolated resolution and it could be better if HP got their collective fingers out. Not impressed. I'll check out other suggestions as and when time allows. Cheers DS

Interesting work around Paul, but it seems too many extra steps to perform what used to be a fairly simple selection process. I foresee another problem with this solution also. Sometimes when the selection closes early it goes outside the area I want to select. It takes the shortest, straight path, so even if I saved it as an Alpha Mask I would have so much work correcting and deselecting those areas I didn't want to select.

I have been playing around with the pen tool and mainly using it in the same capacity as the Poly Lasso tool. Although I am starting to understand the full potential of what the tool can do with curved shapes I still haven't mastered the technique. Those anchor points are tricky.

It's too bad the Pen tool doesn't activate an automatic move when you reach the end of the page like the lasso does. No problem, just use the hand. But it was a handy feature. I will continue to use the pen tool and then convert it to a selection. It's nice to be able to move those anchor points around and fine tune also.

I'm disappointed to learn from Paul that the early closing is an issue with both CS3 and 4, I was hoping I just had some settings wrong or some feature turned on or needed to be turned off. Thanks for all the help.

The pen tool is great but the PL has its uses. I have not seen this behavior in CS3 nor CS4. If I was you, I would borrow or buy a cheap wired mouse and see if you have the same problem. Sounds like a mouse/mouse sensitivity problem to me.

Turn off visibilty on the other Layers. Go to Channels and Ctrl-click on the composite (RGB or CMYK) channel to get a good selection of the line. Ctrl-Shift-I to inverse the selection. Choose your color and
back on your Layer (or in a new Layer) Alt-Delete to fill with the color you want.

I'm running Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit and PS CS2. I've been running the same copy of CS2 for a long time now but on XP. Now that I'm in Vista, some of the keyboard shortcuts don't seem to work and I'm not sure why. I don't see anything in the FAQ about this, and I -know- they are valid, default shortcuts.

Two examples (I use these all the time since I work with a lot of small icons):

#1. Using the arrow keys to shift the current layer/selection over by 1px (or the Shift+arrow keys combo for 10px) doesn't work anymore.

#2. Using Ctrl + and Ctrl - to zoom in and out of the image does not work anymore.

Anyone have any ideas? Maybe Vista is overriding / intercepting the keys somehow?

Totally unsupported. Some have had great success, others not so much.

Hang around and you'll likely hear from both.

That said, make sure you don't have any utilities installed that are
hijacking your KBSCs.
