CS4 worked 'out of the box' for me, my card, a BFG 8600GT, is not on the list of cards. My setup:

Asus P5K Black Pearl motherboard
OCZ GameStream 750 Watt power supply
Intel Q6600 (OC 3Ghz)
8Gb Mushkin RAM (low-latency overpriced crap)
BFG 8600GT (512Mb DDR3 RAM, driver 10/7/2008 v7.15.11.7824 WHQL)
2 Dell UltraSharp wide panels (22", 20")
Wacom Intuos3 6x11 tablet
MS Wireless keyboard
Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit (full install)
Office 2008 (full install, Outlook running constantly)
Adobe Master Collection (full install)
Corel X3 (full install)
Quark 6.5 (full install)
Painter X (full install)
2600+ active fonts
5 Hard drives
2 LG DVD drives

Hope the list helps.

You don't remove it...you pay for the image.

If it's for a homework assignment, it would probably qualify as fair use for "educational purposes". (although paying for the image would be the honourable thing to do) If you did decide to use it under fair use circumstances though, just leave the watermark in there so credit is given where it's due.

It certainly should, but you might want to download the demo and try it out.

The versions are identical...the serial number determines which features
you see. If the demo isn't accepting the serial number something's wrong.

i thought the same thing before, that non-extended serial number just cuts extended options.
whats could be wrong, Robert?

I had a similar problem when I tried to install an upgrade to CS4. The Adobe tech tried everything and finally suggested that I copy the files from the disk to my desktop and then run the install or setup from there. My serial number was then accepted. Don't ask me why cause I don't know. It just worked. Might be worth a try.

What is wrong is the crappy installer. Haven't heard much concrete about fixing it yet.

F1 is not a joke .

It has always opened the help pages, now they are on line rather than on the hard drive. Although they are there too if you did what Elli did.

Ok Thanks, John. I feel stupid, but one should feel that way occasionally.
BTW, I was watching a J. Kost flash turorial and she selected the option to change the size of layers and the options showed samples next to the size selection circles. When I went to change the size of my layer boxes all I saw were selection marks [circles]and no size sample pictures next to them. Is that a PC vs Mac thing or is something missing from my version of CS4?

Don

Jeff,
Maybe I'm missing something here but the only PDF's I see are in your second reference. The first reference only has tabs that move from short paragraphs to short paragraphs, not PDF's. However, they are useful bits of information.

There is no "best tool". It depends entirely on the image and the talent of the person using the tool (or more likely technique).

But you may wish to spend some time studying the Pen tool.

Also, knowing your version of Photoshop would also help those who wish to help you.

You topic title would also make a great Google search. :)

In the ACR forum, there was a recent discussion about linear segments for the shadows. These are official for sRGB and ProPhotoRGB but are not part of the aRGB specification, but a slope of less than 32 is allowed in the shadows for raw converters and is used by ACR for all three of these spaces.

Does Photoshop currently implement a linear segment for these color spaces and does it make that much difference in practical photography?

James: Duplicate the image onto a separate layer and use the eraser tool to remove the background, that is the simplest way. Make sure you are working on a copy.

Each object intended for extraction or isolation will suggest what techniques & tools should be used. The trick is to learn a bit about all of them so that you can look at an image and make a quick determination about which technique or combination of them will work most efficiently.

There are many ways to do this, and there are threads here about it, if you'll only look through the thread titles a bit.

Google is also your best pal when you want to know how to do something. Use the following format to enter your search termsphotoshop tutorial|technique *terms for technique go here*The ---> | <--- character acts as a Boolean "or" operator in Google searching.

Here's a compendium of links to get you started.

be careful. this I think, is a troll.
On the other hand, not even the trolls are so stupid.

This one said, 'I thought they were supposed to remain the same..'

So, they change. What a liar!
Are you using a 'portable edition'?
