Hello everyone, recently my dad asked me to touch up a photo that was
torn in half and basically worn out in color and everything. So I
bought Photoshop 7 and scanned the picture, but thie part of the
picture I cant seem to do anything to, her face is damaged by water or
just time i guess, I tried the clone tool and the patch tool but
doesnt seem to do anything but I am a beginner at this so
I was wondering if you guys can push me in the right direction on
what you would do, and maybe a small brief tutorial how to do it.

Here is the picture

In PHOTOSHOP CS4 extended 64bit i think the problem is opening CS3 files containing text layer ...

I have done tests with
- a file with only background > apparently OK
- a file with a simply text layer > CRASH
- a file with a simply text layer and masked image > CRASH
- a file with masked image > apparently OK

all file are 640x480 72dpi RGB

The 32bit version don't crash but is to slow than CS3

Hi all,

I shoot with an a900 and would like to stitch the ARW RAW files it produces.

Unfortunately the results are pretty awful. No matter how I import the shots (through bridge, LR or PS4 itself) or the type of RAW (DNG or ARW, even TIFFs) the wizard will align but not stitch the photos together. Plenty of examples can be found in this flickr set:

<http://www.flickr.com/photos/35398335@N00/sets/72157613267634565/>

Selecting layers -> merge layers also has no effect - it simply flattens the layers without merging them.

However, I have no problems whatsoever if I first convert to JPG and then stitch. Here's an example of that:

<http://www.flickr.com/photos/35398335@N00/3252828606/in/set-72157613267634565/>

Converting to JPGs isn't a satisfactory solution because I lose so much headroom in PP after the stitch.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can make PS4 produce good stitches when using RAWs?

All ideas much appreciated.

There's one difference though. Scanning externally forces you to save the scanned image into a file, with often limited format choices.

Scanning from the Import menu "pulls" the pixels into PS, and then you have the choices that PS offers.

I like it hat way, if there's only one or two images to do. Batching is another story of course.

Well, I may not like it, but I guess you never know about all the wonders of Vista if they didn't turn it on first so you could turn it off if you wished.

The problem was selecting one character in web-code, you couldn't do it with this stuff turned on without getting a sub-menu to appear. G-a-a-a-a-a-a! I was just about ready to..........

I am very happy now. I consider this an annoying yet minor issue. The tablet is truly amazing.

A Cintiq next; when I win the lottery of course.

From where? CS3 is no longer available and the only company I know of
that sells download versions Adobe software is Adobe.

Nothing happened to it. Assuming you're actually using Extended which should be verifiable using Help / About Photoshop, the current version is CS4 Extended which has a 3D menu item. CS3 Extended has an Analysis menu item. What sort of site has CS3 Extended available for download?

Thanks. The Photoshop Exchange gradients have been where they belong all the time. I inadvertently changed their file name and saved them under another file name I didn't recognize.

Hi,
When I paste something into photoshop cs4 it seems that the colors are washed out or a little off. I noticed this one day when I was working and I haven't been able to fix it since. I even deleted the photoshop profile which didn't seem to fix the problem. How can I reset all of the color settings/presets.

<http://homepages.wmich.edu/~m6newton1/washed%20out.bmp>

I also don't know if this helps but... When I do a "save for web," the preview there shows the correct color. But when I open up the file it produces with MS Paint/Windows Image Previewer it shows a washed out version.

Any suggestions are welcome, Thank you for your time.

I spent some time looking into this and I got it working... The problem lies in two spots.

Under VIEW > Proof Colors was check which was forcing the preview to have a different tint... BUT also... EDIT > COLOR SETTINGS had some weird stuff set.

I set my own to RGB: Dell 2208WFP (my monitor's name)
CMYK: US Web coated swap v2
GRAY dot gain 20%
Spot dot gain 20%
then saved it as a preset.

That seemed to fix the issue

Hi,

Four days into my CS4 experience. Not awful, but not good either.

Running on Vista Business 32bit, Phenom 9550 Quad Core, 4GB RAM, Nvidia 7600 GT.

I just tried my WACOM tablet and the brushes were very slow, missing the start of some strokes and most importantly no pressure sensitivity. I did
a little searching and someone suggested switching off OpenGL and this has
fixed my problem.

Does anyone else have a similar experience ?
Also, is my 7600 GT card not powerful enough ? When I moved to CS2 from 7,
I had to upgrade my graphics card - which was running just fine with 7.

Thanks in advance,

Shahzad

Hi!

Thank you for the replies! I'm very happy that there is a solution!

As I'm going to use eyetracking, the most important thing for me is that the pupil size won't change because of luminance (darkness) differences between different stimuli.
George, I don't know the difference between all the things you mention. I'm afraid it's not really my field. For sure the background may not be changed as this can invoke saccades to the background and this is not what I want. So I think the solution of Gernot and Maloney is the best thing, right? But can you please explain me a bit more how to do it? I'm actually completely new to photoshop.

greetings,
Mariska

When I make a project with a transparent background the background becomes white when I export it for use in another application/program/etc.

When I create the project I set the background to transparent. I do not add a new background to compete with the transparent background.

Any way around this?

My primary usage of batch processing is for resizing images for a web
photo gallery. ... Is there a better method to prepare numerous images?

Have a look at the Image Processor: File > Scripts > Image Processor

It can resize files and convert to sRGB, also call an action if you'd like. Then in Bridge you can do a batch rename - new file name sequence number to get your serial number sequence.
