what john said... turn off norton temporarily, then re-run the clean script at several escalating levels.
READ THE INSRTUCTIONS ON THE PAGE BEFORE RUNNING IT!
Using the new CS3Clean Script
<http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402767&sliceId=2>
after that, try to reinstall.

The warnings you should heed are the ones about using those DLLs. They
were removed for a reason.

'They were removed for a reason...' so you'll use Bridge, not Windows Explorer.

Is that a question or a statement, Bart?
I'm a huge fan of Bridge. Is it perfect, no? But it's gotten better and
better with each release.

Well, considering its starting point, it just about had to. It's still cumbersome to fire it up if all you're doing is selecting a few files to open. It's an awkward file management tool. It still falls short of being a DAM solution.
So, viva la thumbnails in Explorer.

That is a statement. Adobe created this viewer, that barely relies on the OS, for it's own products .
I didn't like Bridge 3, it was really flakey, so I used Bridge 2 until I got the CS4 Master Collection. It now works as it should.

I think if they just mimicked as much of explorer's navigation styles and methodology to manipulating files and folders, all complaints would go away.

Windows Vista 64-bit OS.
Any suggestions?

Unless they're specifically 64 bit plugins you'll need to use them with
the 32 bit version of Photoshop.

Jeff,
They say "tested", but don't say if it works or not? It sounds like you're
having problems with your GPU?
Well, I seriously doubt that Adobe would list a card as tested if it didn't work. Trouble is, there are so many variables other than the video card which may come into play, not the least of which are apparently problems with CS4 code.
My card (ATI X1950 Pro) isn't on the tested list, but it does meet the system requirements as published by Adobe. If I had known about the "tested" list prior to buying CS4, it certainly would have figured into the purchase decision.
To answer your question, though, my card works fine, except with CS4.

Okay I stink at this kind of work: I'm trying to isolate a helicopter and remove its background. Not really sure how to make the edges realistic. Soft opaque brush in Quick Mask? Extract filter? Combination? Some other filter? I don't have a tablet unfortunately (I think this would be easier if I had a real pen to use instead of the mouse -- my hand's not that steady). This is the best I've gotten so far, but the edges are far from realistic:
<http://www.rotor.com/temp/CoverLayers.zip>
Any technique suggestions? That zip is the Photoshop file. The original image I'm working with is on the 2nd layer but not visible.
Ugh. I do lots of layout work but not that much photo editing.
Thanks for any suggestions. Please don't be too critical -- I realize this file is not in good shape yet.
Thanks, Phyllis
