Time for someone from Adobe to put in an idea here, then. It makes no sense to me at all that CS4 behaves like this.

I just found out, that Pixel Bender filters only work up to a specific image pixel count. In my case up to 4096*4096 pixels. If the image is larger (and the pictures of my 50D are larger) I can`t use the filters anymore and get an error message: The image dimension exceed the hardware capabilities of your GPU. I guess that`s because of the max. texture size of my graphics card of 4096 pixels.
I have a Geforce 8600GT/512MB. Now my question is, wether there are cards that can handle bigger texture sizes.

I have installed OpenGL extensions viewer and it reports 8192x8192 as max. texture size. According to what I found in the internet that`s the max. texture size of the whole G80 series. So I`m wondering why I can`t use Pixel Bender on larger photos than 4096 pixels.

I already registered, but the register dialog comes up everytime I run photoshop.

Clicking do not register doesn't help. Next time I start photoshop the same dialog comes up again.

How do I get rid of this?

Known issue...turn off UAC and register. You can turn it back on but for
the life of me I can't imagine why you'd want to.

Hi Martijn,

Adobe won't give me access to the forum that you have sent us a link to - is there any way you can copy / paste the steps to edit the registry here?

Thank you!

Hi Allen,

I can't get access anymore either. Maybe some of that forum has been closed or archived.

However, I saved the relavent text, here are the instructions; all caveats apply of course (be careful; backup registry first, at your own risk etc.);

"
Open your IE, copy&paste the following code into the address bar and click go

javascript:document.write(navigator.userAgent)

It will show you about your UserAgent value, just like 'Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)' or so.If you find something in a mass, that's exactly the point.
"

The first bit above is a bit strange (I don't understand what he meant by 'if you fing something in a mass' but it shouldn't really matter since this step is informational only. The following is the bit that matters:

"
Now, please open the Registry Editor (start->run->regedit), locate the subkeys as follows

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\Post Platform

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\Post Platform

Remove all values except (Default) in each 'Post Platform' key, restart your computer. All things should go right.
"

I hope this will work out for you, as it did for me. If you do not find the extra keys there anyway (besides 'default'), yours may be a different problem...

Martijn

It is happening when I use Papyrus and Park Avenue Normal fonts.
Have just switched to Monotype Corsiva and that seems to work. The
Fonts I use came with Windows (I think) and have worked OK in the past.
Seema odd that some work and some don't.
Can't find an Option tab but Left Align text is checked if that's what you mean

Many thanks

John,

PhotoDeluxe 1.0 has a larger variety of output formats, and variations within each of them, than any other image editor I've encountered, including GIMP. However, it DOESN'T support transparency in PNG.

Just as in Yahoo Maps/ Wikimapia/Google Earth etc. I wish to place an
explanative text as a block on some chosen clickable points (or on
strips of area or on larger patches ) of some old engineering TIF
drawings saved in PDF. May be a place holder detail that opens by a
click and vanishes by clicking on the small cross at corner of box.

How is this possible on Photoshop ver 7 converted images ? Is it also
possible to embed/nest second level text / images inside? If not
possible on Adobe Photoshop, possible with what other software ?
(e.g., GIS ?) ?

Thanks in advance for any indications.

Hi all:
I've been trying out CS4 while waiting for it to come in at the
University computer store.
At work on my new Dell Optiplex 755 with 4gig of memory, it flies!
At home with my old Gateway and HP laptop, not so good. The openGL stuff
doesn't work on either one. The video card in the Gateway is an ATI 550
with 250meg of memory and the latest drivers I could find. It claims to
have openGL 2.0 but it doesn't work.I found a bit of software on the web
that checks to see if your video is suitable for a video game. It claims
that my system has openGL 2.0 and should work with the published spec's
for CS4 but it doesn't work. This all reminds me of the early days of
personal computing with the compatibility wars were manufactures fought
over who was most compatible and if the software didn't run it was the
hardware's fault not theirs.
My suggestion is for Adobe to make a video test tool that users could
use to validate their video hardware and software. I would like to buy a
new laptop for use with CS4. But it is hard to tell looking at the
spec's for laptops if they will work. If I had this tool on a thumb
drive it would be easy to check.
All in all I've spent more time with software and hardware problems
affecting Photoshop than I've spent on any other programs. As an
engineer I use some powerful and complex software, and none of it is as
fussy as Photoshop is.

Are you able to drag a file in and have it open without a tab? It doesn't
work here

You have to drag it on to the work area background, not on to another picture.

I get a tab no matter where I drag it, even if no file is open. You are not
seeing the same thing?
"Open documents as tabs" and "Enable floating document window docking" are
both unchecked, and trashing prefs didn't affect this.

I have the same results as Derrick...no matter what I do, I get a tab with a dragged-in document, whether I release it over another photo or the background. Both the 'tabs' and 'floating doc' are unchecked in preferences, and it's been restarted.

Out of curiosity I installed it on my laptop and results are the same. Both have Photoshop CS3 installed, in case that affects anything (I know it shouldn't, but with oddball things like this, who knows).

I dragged it from ThumbsPlus, from Windows Explorer, and from Bridge CS4, same results. Both machines are XPSP3, I haven't tried it on Vista, though I doubt it has anything to do with that.

I did discover a workaround of sorts that's better than dragging and trashing the tab...right click on the tab, and choose 'move to new window'. Still an unnecessary annoyance though.

If you wonder why this is a problem, I sometimes may drag several photos in from my viewer for processing, and may want to have 2 or more side by side for various reasons, and tabs don't work for that. I can't seem to find anything (like Window...arrange...cascade) that will stay checked and affect new dragged-in documents.

So do I understand correctly that this doesn't happen to some? You can drag in a document and not get it tabbed?

It happens on my XP SP3 machine at work and my Vista64 SP1 machine at home.
The reason I don't want the tabs is zooming with the mousewheel is much
smoother when the file is untabbed (OpenGL on)

Hmmm. It won't do it now, but you can double-click in Bridge or Explorer and each opens in a new window.

Hi,

I am using Adobe Photoshop CS3. I have a spreadsheet of Greek translations. When I copy and paste the text into Photoshop, certain characters are missed out or replaced with an incorrect one. I have tried downloading fonts that support the Greek character set, but still no luck. If I paste this text into any other applications (Word, explorer etc) the text displays properly. I was wandering if there is a setting or anything in photoshop that I need to change? It seems to be an issue with this application only.

Many thanks,

Once you have everything working as you like, buy an external USB hard drive (larger than your boot drive) and make a full system copy so you may restore in case of problems

Terabyte's Image program makes a full drive image for backup - it will span multiple CD/DVD discs or write to a USB hard drive - as far as I know (I have multiple identical 80Gig boot drives which I rotate via removable drive housings, creating a backup and restore before I install or remove any programs) this program goes directly to the drive hardware to backup and restore EVERYTHING on a drive, even the "hidden" parts that software vendors use to store registration information

Note - my sister-in-law got hit by a destructive virus in early November (she was one of those people who got infected between the time the virus hit the internet and her anti-virus company updated their program files) and I was, since I had just made a full backup for her in late October, able to put her computer back in order with only the loss of a couple weeks worth of emails and a Word document or two... and then the first order of business after the full restore was to immediately run Windows Update and go to her anti-virus vendor's web site for an upate so she would stay safe

Anyway, since she does not understand making data backups herself, Image was the ONLY thing that saved the day and kept her from losing ALL of her data files

Dos version is small enough to run off a 3.5 inch boot disk
<http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-dos.htm>

Linux version creates a bootable CD, you MUST use this version if you have a USB mouse or keyboard (the DOS version won't work if you have a USB mouse or keyboard) or if you don't have a 3.5 inch boot disk
