Unfortunately, I don't find the masks palette to come anywhere close to what
and the way extract worked. However, given that Adobe added extract, ignored
extract and now killed extract my suggestion would be to either learn to use
what is left in Photoshop or find yourself a good masking plug-in from a
third party. Extract is gone continuing to try and clutch it is only going
to get harder and harder, sooner or later it just won't be included as an
optional item and/or won't be able to work in Photoshop (as it is upgraded
over the coming years).

Try the Quick Selection Tool - you might want to read up on how it works first - in combination with the Mask Panel.

Hi:

Used Add Remove Programs to remove PS7 and rebooted. Using Find in regedit finds many instances of "photoshop". How to clean the registry prior to a reinstall of PS7?

Have Fun,

1. Create a background copy.

2. Blur the background copy.

3. Create an inverted mask (black) so background copy is completely blocked.

4. Now carefully paint white onto background copy mask with soft brush, while viewing entire image. Very easy to soften wrinkles without looking artificial.

Photoshop CS3 crashes on Open File

I have found a fix that has been working for me. Here is what I did:

1. Have your IT Manager Logon to your system as Administrator (or logon as Administrator if you can)

2. Create a Local User Account.

3. Make the Local User a Member of the Local Administrators

4. Logon as User

5. Select the Adobe Photoshop CS3 icon in the All Programs flyout menu.

6. Right-click on the Adobe Photoshop CS3 icon and select the Shortcut tab > Advanced.

7. From the Advanced Properties window select "Run with different credentials > OK. Apply Changes.

8. When you launch Adobe Photoshop CS3 you will be prompted with a "Run As" window. Choose the radio button for "The following user" and choose the Local User Account that you added with the Local Administrator Rights.

The con to this is that when you go to open a file you will not see the network mapped drives. The work around for this is to browse the network using My Network and once you get to the folder where your psd files are select the "Favorites" icon on the "Open" window to make it easier to navigate back to the folder(s) where your files are.

I hope this helps some of you with the issues of opening Photoshop CS3 files.

I just downloaded the CS4 free trial, but as soon as I open an image, I get an error and the program closes. I called tech support, and they sent me here.

The exact message says (as soon as Photoshop opens "Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements. Check the video card manufacturer's website for the latest software."

Then, as soon as I open an image, I get another error message and the whole program closes. Does anyone know how I should proceed? Do I need to download everything all over again?

Thanks,
Joe

Hi all,

I'm really unsure whether to invest in a whole new PC or invest in these upgrades for my current HP AMD 64 X2 3800+ / 4GB RAM which isn't that strong.

Basically I'm aiming at optimizing my PC to exclusively run the Adobe App's Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign strongly the next 5 years! So either these upgrades or a whole new PC, what do you think?

_______________________

For the upgrades I would get:

- Raptor 150 GB HD 16MB Cache as Scratch.

- Change my Graphics Card to Geforce 9400GT. From what I can understand, it would go well with the new Adobe CS4 engine.

- I'm also looking at investing in Vista 64 Bit, im currently running XP 32bit.

Any insight would be very much appreciated!

If you are running a 64 bit processor, it makes sense to update to a 64 bit OS. Your perceived weakness in your current system may simply be due to running the wrong OS for your processor.

You could get CS4 and see how it runs on your current system (with a 64 bit Windows) and then decide which hardware needs to be updated.

CS4 alleges some performance improvements.

You would be better off with a large 7.200rpm drive (500gb+) as this will out perform a Raptor 150gb....which is showing it's age now - despite the price tag.

Get as much RAM as you can afford (8GB+) and definitely get Vista x64.

Hello,

I only know a workaround for this... any way to merge visible layers to a new layer, yet retain the layers that merged? Does that make sense. So if I want to merge layer 1, 2, 3 into a new layer 4. Can I create a layer 4 with all layers merged as one, yet still have 1, 2, and 3.

I know the workaround, so I'm looking for a menu item or shortcut to do this.

Thanks!!!!!! =)

Make an empty Layer. Choose it and Link the Layers you want Merged and hold down Alt while choosing Merge Linked. It should Merge them all to the empty Layer yet leave the other Layers intact.

It will show up in History as Stamp Linked.

Ed,

Thanks this is great. I also learned after trying your trick, was to simply select the layers you want (doesn't have to be linked) then hold Alt while choosing "Merge Layers".

Very cool! Thanks much,

I don't have CS4, but the usual place would be the Photoshop Actions folder inside the Presets folder in Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS4\Presets, for instance.

Everything works fine with Auto Import except when an image arrives in LR so does the Import Dialog Window and I have to click it away with every shot. I am in the Library Loup View in the Fit mode. This happens weather the Import preferences has "Show import dialog when a memory card is detected" checked or not. I have checked with NAPP and they have no answer. I have Win XP 64bit.

Thanks, Tom

Hi,

I'm fairly new and need to know about cropping. I need a print size of 1665 x 1325. Do I do this this in the drop down "image size" or do I select the crop tool and enter the pixels in the fields? A little confused...

Or stated more succinctly, RTFM.

I did, and did not find anything resembling "protect from editing". I saw
passwords and certification mentioned, but nothing along the lines of a "do
not allow copying/importing individual images" checkbox.

So again, I ask : How do I protect my PDF file's individual images from
copy/import? I realize a screenshot will allow copying the final product,
but I'm talking about the individual image layers.

I should probably mention that I don't want a password to be involved. I
want the images protected, period. I don't even want a password to be
prompted.
