The sure reason Adobe does this is they want you to see what you will be missing so they have all features available in the trial hoping you will spend the extra money. What you need to do is look at the comparison chart and see what the extended features are and not use them.

I wish Adobe would say that there is only one version. In their reply to me they say there are two different links for the two versions.
The trouble with looking at the comparison charts is that they only give the main differences. They don't give detailed differences within the program. I want to go through all of the menu options and see what they do, and if they are different from previous versions. If I don't know for sure which menu options are only for the standard version, I would be wasting my time.
I was hoping to find some way of just evaluating the standard version, or at least of turning off the extended version in the trial download. If the serial number for the standard version turns off the extended features, it must be a relatively simple job to block the unwanted features in the trial version.
Adobe programs are so bloated these days, I really was hoping not to have to waste more disk space with all the junk that is in the extended version, which I will never use - ever.

based on the amount of whine about performance I point my finger on Adobe.
the 2 or 3 guys whining on this forum is not a good example of a bad product. If Photoshop was performing poorly for everyone this forum would be full of complaints. like every thread would be a complaint.
So logic suggests its your computer.

Actually Buko, I disagree. I run an advertising agency and know a number of people that are having problems and just aren't posting (including myself). It shouldn't take an outside group of this magnitude to waste our time responding to every post that comes through. We paid a decent price for this software and it is Adobe's responsibility to get it right. I agree with a number of people (including a number of my associates) -- this is just shotty code - plain and simple. If Adobe would like to pay us for our time to beta test, then by all means, we would consider it. But when you are going to charge $1,500 per license for a suite and then expect to launch a less-than-sufficient product, then no offense, but it's on them.
I am part of a number of beta communities for open-source software and provide a great deal of support for free. But let's face it, Adobe is not open-source (at least the last time I checked my credit card statement).
The fact of the matter is -- Adobe missed the boat when it came to building CS4 with all of its users in mind. I run Adobe ColdFusion Enterprise - an $8,000 product. We use ColdFusion to host most of our websites for a number of high-profile clients. If all of a sudden (even though we had a top-of-the-line Dell server), ColdFusion would not work because we did not meet a right video driver, I would be outraged.
Because Photoshop is a graphic-intensive program, we have generally given Adobe the benefit of the doubt and assume that they will fix their mistake in short order. But to expect that every single user that is having a problem is going to post on here is ridiculous. I made my case earlier in this thread - I do not need to waste hours a day on this.
There is an old saying - 1% of people participate while the other 99% of people absorb and do not participate. This is just reality. My point is - if 1% of your users are actually stating on a forum that there is a problem, then the actual number of people that are having the problem is probably MUCH greater. They are simply waiting in the queues for a solution.
There is a problem. Adobe needs to come up with a solution.

Hello list,
I would like to put my name in my pictures (e.g. (c) 2008 by J). How can
I do it in batch mode with CS4? I know that tools like IrfanView are
able to do it, but I want to make some other transformations, color
settings... in PS and do not want to save it twice in jpg.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Jens
Adobe Creative Suite Standard CS4 is my used Suite.

If you look around the various GPU-related threads recently you'll see that the same card may work fabulously for some and break everything for others.
There's no consistency to it, and if you ask me, it's more related to what other software you have installed than what your hardware configuration is. But in principle, any decent ATI or nVidia card with, say, 256 MB or more RAM should do fine.
A few useful tips though: Don't install the driver on the disk - that's old. Get the newest from ATIs or nVidias website.
Remove all 3rd party plugins, especially from Nik. Reinstall updated plugins later.
Update DirectX. What else? I'm sure I forgot something...

Hi.
Some times -not always- my photoshop cs4 Extended Edition, crash.
However, if I disable OpenGl function, photoshop works perfectly.
Of course: I have up to date the graphic card drives.
Every crash, appears a magic word:atkogl32.dll.
Uncle google says that atkogl32.dll is relating with Asus.
Could you please help me?
Thanks in advance.
My graphic card: Asus EAX1650XT (256mb).
MOBO: Asus P5W DH Deluxe.
OS: Windows XP professional edition service pack 2.
Processor: Core 2 duo E6320.
Greetings from México.

What is the relation between photoshop cs4 and atkogl32.dll?
None whatsoever, I would think. It's apparently one more in the long line of OpenGL problems (atk ogl 32.dll)
What's helping some, aside from updating the nVidia driver, is to throw out all 3rd party plugins and update DirectX.

Hi, freeagent.
Thanks for answering to me.
Do you advice me to throw out all 3rd party plugins?
Well... I only have 3: niksoftware color efex Pro, Viveza and Grain surgery.
They work very good.
Another option?
I am sad...
PS cs4 is an amazing program. It opens itself in 3.4 seconds.
Of course: it is faster than cs2...
Thanks in advance.

I just installed CS4, but this same issue arose with CS3 just before I installed CS4. I am running XP on a 12-inch screen Dell M1210 laptop, but often edit onto a 22-inch Viewsonic screen. The issue occurs on both screens.
When I open an image from Bridge to Camera Raw, the ACR borders fit within the screen just fine. But when I open the ACR image into Photoshop, both the right-hand side of the program border and the bottom of the image go off the screen. I thus cannot see all of the image at the bottom and cannot see all the buttons/controls on the right-hand side of the program border.
It was not always like this. What am I not doing, or what did I do to get to this point? How do I fix it?

Graphics editing (or video editing or some games) really make a computer work hard
Do you have a system monitor that shows the internal temperature?
I know that over in the Premiere forum there are sometimes discussions of adding extra cooling... easy to do with a desktop case, but even for a laptop there are devices which sit under a laptop with built-in fans to suck the hot air down and out of the laptop and then out the sides of the device

Hmmm... thanks for your reply, but I'm not sure I understand. And maybe I wasn't explaining the situation very clearly. It's not the entire system that shuts down, but Photoshop that shuts down. Would a high temperature situation cause this?

I tried the above method and can't seem to access System settings to grant permission. Any secrets for doing this.
This whole permission thing with Vista is driving me nuts!
And what's more somehow in working with files I must have inadvertently dragged my system file in Explorer so now I have TWO system files. That can't be too good.
What do I do to get rid of one SAFELY?
TIA.

1. Create a new document, transparent background.
2. Add content or paint on Layer 1, doesn't matter what. Note the color values in the Info palette.
3. Reduce Layer 1 to less than 100% opacity.
The info palette still reports the color values as if this layer was set to 100%.
If you add a white layer beneath, or flatten the document, Info switches to report the actual color values.
If a just a portion of an underlying layer is not transparent (for example, select half of the underlying layer and fill with white), Info will report the correct values over the non-transparent areas, and the incorrect values over the transparent areas.

Hi
Same problem here with Ps CS4 :(
I also dual monitors, one for palettes and one for image viewing.
The one with the palettes also has the menubar (I'm on a Mac), so programs seem to think it as the main monitor, but for me the absolute free pixel height of the image monitor is paramount.
This is a step backwards for Photoshop – the same thing happened a few versions ago to InDesign.
Illustrator CS3 is able to open windows to the same location where they were when closed – InDy CS3 is not.
Both of then open new & previously un-opened (ones gotten from an another machine) under the menubar (id est, the wrong monitor for me)
Photoshop was in the previous versions able to open even the new (blank) documents on the "image" monitor – no longer :( :(
Hope that the programmers will look into this, and include a fix into the updates...
