Hey all - I downloaded the photoshop CS4 trial (too skint for upgrade just yet!)

and you should see the grin on my face when using the brush tool now - smoooooooooth! (just be sure to turn off vertical sync under prefs/performance/GPU settings/advanced... or you're likely to have uber-lag) :) I also downloaded the AI trial and seeing intelligent tweaks and changes in both applications that just make sense!

I think finally this may be an upgrade that's going to make a difference to my workflow in a good way! (when I can get the workspace back as it should be - lol!)

Check out the difference! :

This question was asked two days ago by another poster on the Photoshop Macintosh Forum. There were no responses, so I am re-asking the question here.

According to ALL authorities out there, the Saturation Blend Mode is supposed to produce a result having the saturation of the blend color. It does not consistently do so (and the inconsistencies are not limited to gray areas). Why?

Help! I just upgraded to CS4 on a WinXP Pro sp3 platform. I am attempting to work on a photo, but my eraser tool doesn't seem to be working.

I have the correct layer selected, opacity and flow are both set for 100%, and the brush size is adequate for me to see (what should be) the results.

What on earth am I doing wrong? I have worked PS for YEARS and never encountered anything like this before?!?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Susan

Is there a hidden selection active? Use Ctrl+H to reveal the selection or Q to bring up the quick mask.

Wolf, nothing hidden.

Dave, mouse is away.

I can see the brush tool, and it moves on the screen image as I direct. But nothing disappears! It's as though the tool is defective somehow.

Oh, and here's one other piece of info that might help. When I change the mode to "block" or "pencil" it works fine. But, in "brush" mode it won't work at all.

If I wasn't so stressed, it might be amusing. :-O

so you're using a stylus? are you using the right end? (ya. stoopid question. :)) can you save and restart photoshop? see if that clears it up...

maybe even reboot with the tablet unplugged, then restart again with it plugged in. let the os re-recognize it...

what brand of tablet? latest drivers installed?

You may have to update to SP3 for XP. Not sure, I don't use XP.

Adobe's requirements for CS4 allow XP SP2 although SP3 is recommended.

Also, if we are to believe Adobe engineers - and I would lean in that direction - OpenGL issues are typically related to video drivers. Apparently we need to pound long and hard on the video card manufacturers to update their drivers for the various cards and OS combinations. I'm not holding my breathe ...

Indeed, NVIDIA is pushing only their high-end Quadro CX for CS4 use (retailing in Canada at about $2000).

Are you using dual screens? If so, check your NVidia Desktop settings and try different setups. It's possible that the order of your screens is not correct and PS tries to open on the secondary display, which in some configurations are not accelerated. Similarly, large resolutions or screens with different resolutions may throw things off track. Other than that I can only presume that your card is not correctly identifying itself to PS, which is also a dirver issue. In such cases, using SoftQuadro/ RivaTuner may provide a solution by manipulating the vendor string...

In Photoshop CS4 there are no longer blending modes when working in
CMYK mode. Is there an option somewhere to turn this option back on?

Cheers -

Did you attempt to disable hardware acceleration? Were the files saved on a system with a specific printer driver or color profile? True breakups of PSDs are rare, so I would presume you are experiencing display errors of some sort.

I was about to download the trial version of CS4 and noticed that the download was the extended version, even though I had clicked on the link for the standard version.

My question is, do you get a choice as to which version you install? I have no interest in the extended version and want to try out the standard version only. Don't really want to have to figure out which features are in standard and which in extended.

Thanks for any info.

If you buy the standard version when you enter the serial number the
extended features will vanish.

He makes a good point though, Bob. He doesn't want to have to figure out which features are extended while he is trying them. Adobe should have a switch in the demo that will turn off the extended options (since it seems to be there for when the serial numbers are added).

So after Adobe telling me to contact Nvidia and Nvidia telling me that
my GE7300 is only suitable for games and not CS4 I don't have to buy a
new card after all!

nVIDIA needs to give their head a shake. Graphic card manufacturers are going to have to come to grips with the fact that an increasingly larger user community are going to expect their cards to do more than play silly games.

Service Manager is required for Adobe Drive and some other online functions. If you are not using them, it is safe to turn it off in your control panel.

Hello,

Is it possible to add a stroke to a vector object, without a fill?

I know how to create a path and stroke it, but I was more wondering about a live vector object with a stroke with no fill.

Thanks pros

Use a Layer Style for the stroke, and—at the top of the Layers Panellete—set the value for that layer's "Fill" to 0%.
