Do you have the Airbrush icon clicked by any chance?
Why not just use the Eraser tool?

To finish up the ies4osx diversion...
I just looked at the current ies4osx installer and noticed it lacks what a previous version offered <http://macapper.com/2007/11/29/ies4osx-run-internet-explorer-567-natively-in-os-x/>. IE7 is no longer bundled and the link in this article points to a removed file. If one really wants to get IE7, they might email kronenberg.org to see if they still have that package available.
Removal is not too difficult.
If you used kronenberg.org's packages, just delete the Darwine and the 'tricks' app from your Applications folder. Then search for and delete the 'wine' folder it installed (you may have to turn all file visibility on for this). The wine folder will have contents similar to a Windows system (a 'C' hard drive folder, a 'Program Files' folder, etc).

Regarding Post 368: My bad. I didn't realize I had started Quick Mask and never painted on it so it looked normal. Once I got out of Quick Mask everything worked. So relieved!

I did actually write him last night and he was nice enough to answer me this morning. Here is his answer:
"yes, the current ies4osx does not install all of the web corefonts. I'm currently putting finishing touches to a new version, that will include all core fonts and IE7 again. It will take one or two more days to finish."
I am looking forward to it.

What you guys are missing is they are adjustment layers. So after you make the tint . Hit the back button on the adjustment panel and go to the hue tint panel now you have another adjustment layer. this way you have much more control.

Buko.
Thanks for your suggestion, which does indeed work.
I have another to make which is after having added a 'Black and White' layer you add a 'Hue/Saturation' layer. By ticking the "Colorize" box one can add a tint, and then adjust its hue and saturation with sliders. Buko, is this what you were trying to tell us ?
However, for my money, I would prefer to have this all in one place, as in the dialogue box.
Best wishes.

Yes that is what I was referring to. keep in mind they are adjustment layers having them in separate panels gives you more control.
In the B&W image adjustment in the pulldown menu that is a destructive adjustment.

James,
That .jpg may be corrupted -- particularly if you've been working/saving remotely on that file. Drag-copy to your local drive; work locally; save locally; drag-copy back to the server.

Christoph.. I'm not sure what PE was talking about here, but the info you seek is on that blog page (http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2008/11/configurator_is_live.html) he mentioned.
John lists in the "Some sample panels:" section, that you could have this functionality back (modal dialogs for adjustment layers) by using Configurator. Once you install Configurator, you can download the one he links to and then you'll be able to do what you desire. Or you could create your own panel.

I don't get too caught up in monitor brightness (but do prefer daylight to evaluate prints) because I can train my eye to a bright (or dim) screen (and I prefer brighter, 180 on my LCDs).
If your files and the PDI file display properly, the PDI prints properly, but your files don't (and your settings are nailed down consistent) -- I am stumped.
You are not using saved printer Presets are you -- try manually setting up the workflow for each test.
Can you post one of your test files?

Mary Ellen,
Thanks so much for your reply - I'm a little belated with this - Thought there would not be anymore - But just checked to be sure - And there was your response! I'll definitely look into what you suggested.
By the way, I just cannot settle on the appropriate color for this building - Have gone from a golden tone to a shade I borrowed from a White House/Capitol photo. That's where I'm at now. No disrespect to my Grandmother at all - But I feel that I need to do as good a job for the designer of this building - Because of all the faces of angels, animals, and people that suddenly showed up when I was using "Brightness/Contrast. Hence, this effort.

I had several exchanges with Adobe help through e-mail. I dumped the preferences. I went to keyboard and mouse and restored defaults. I re-installed Photoshop. As you say the option key acted exactly the same as the command key and kept on doing it no matter what I did. Finally I contacted Adobe Help toll free. Finally the Adobe helper had me create a new user name, then go to Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers and uninstall Adobe CS3. I then reinstalled and the clone stamp worked.
