I had considered the DSC-R1 at one time because of the potential high
image quality, but it was too big and bulky, too heavy, and too limited in
lens range. I'm glad I waited and got the Nikon D60 with 16-85mm and
70-300mm VR (image stabilised) lenses.

Well, yeah .... I guess so. Maybe you have a good idea there. A few
drops of cyanoacrylate (Krazy Glue) would bond the lens to the body
and she would then have a high class P&S camera. Mmm, maybe not. Body
isn't sealed. Dust finally entering the body may have to be removed
from the surface of the sensor. No, I think I'll leave well enough
alone. <g>

Assuming you have a Nikon mount adaptor, the lenses may work but without
auto-focus and probably without metering. They would have angles of view
similar to 67mm and 200mm lenses.

D60 with the 18-55 VR is an excellent starter combination, and that sounds
like a good price.

I try and use my local camera shop, even if it does mean paying a little
more. Folks here will be able to recommend the best place to buy - I'm in
the UK so don't know US stores.

Sorry about the net police crack. There's no justification for my
making the remark.

You're right, of course. But I have to tell ya, ya gotta hang loose
and give out with a chuckle once in a while. Peller may have spent too
much time looking for the beef 'cause she didn't find it and finally
ended up taking the deep six. Now, if she had a Nikon camera .........

Some 50 years ago, I spent two bucks and drew the best house keeper
and mother for my future kids that a guy could find. I'm so far ahead
of the game and introducing her to the world of gadgetry might upset
the status quo. My aim is to keep the kid happy but I still want to
buy and play with my toys. <g>
